About this property

Lake Life Love: Cute 2BR Hideaway on Tranquil Mirror Lake!"

Welcome to Your Lakefront Retreat in Highlands!
Tucked away in the peaceful woods just 2 miles from downtown Highlands, our cozy lakefront bungalow offers the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. Whether you're here for a relaxing escape or to explore the charm of the town, you’ll have the best of both worlds.

This space is built from our exposed basement and has been thoughtfully designed with comfort and style in mind. You’ll a welcoming atmosphere with windows in every room and all-new furnishings throughout. The bungalow features two queen bedrooms—one with a Sleep Number bed—a full kitchen, and a spacious full bathroom with a shower-tub combo deep enough for a relaxing soak. Step outside to enjoy the lake-view deck, or dine al fresco on the separate side deck with an outdoor table. Flat-screen TVs are available in both bedrooms and the living room, and there’s a stacked washer and dryer for your convenience.

The Space:
We transformed an unfinished basement into a warm and inviting bungalow filled with wood and stone accents that bring in a rustic cabin feel. While the main home dates back to the 1960s, we've embraced its charm—so don’t be surprised if you spot some original iron piping or other vintage touches throughout the space.

Guest Access:
Your private pull-off parking spot fits one car and leads to a set of gently sloped stairs to a landing, followed by a standard stairway down to your private entrance. (See pictures)

The Neighborhood:
Mirror Lake is a peaceful, no-gas-motor lake just a couple miles from downtown Highlands. It’s a quiet, friendly community where the only sounds you’ll likely hear are birdsong and the gentle waterfall over the nearby dam. It’s the ideal spot to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Getting Around:
A vehicle is recommended for getting around Highlands, as rideshare services are limited.

What We Provide:
We start your stay with hospitality-sized soaps and essentials, not full-size bottles, to give you a fresh welcome while keeping things eco-friendly. If you need more during your stay, downtown Highlands has several charming shops and stores to explore.

Dog-Friendly Policy:
We love dogs and welcome up to two well-behaved dogs under 60 lbs. A pet fee applies to help us maintain a fresh and clean space for all guests. For the comfort and safety of everyone, we ask that your furry friends be house-trained, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and ticks. Dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture and must be kept out of the lake. Please pick up after them and ensure they aren’t disruptive while you're home or away. We also ask that you do not throw your dog waste bags in the bottom of the outdoor trash bin. The town trash service only picks up closed trash bags in the trash bin. Please start a separate trash bag for this purpose and put it in after you have deposited your stay trash. Otherwise, it all gets stuck on the bottom and creates a mess. Have questions? Just ask!

Important Notes:

Trash must be bagged and placed in the street-side bin. Trash pickup is Tuesday and Friday mornings. Please help ensure the bin faces the street—Highlands’ trash service collects bags manually. So if it is not bagged, it sits in the bin, making a mess. PLEASE PUT ALL TRASH IN A TRASH BAG.

Only provided toilet paper (Charmin) may be flushed. Absolutely no wipes, hair, food grease, or… G.I. Joe figurines (yep, that happened). You’ll be responsible for plumbing damage if this guideline isn’t followed.

Please clean the grill after each use, including the grease tray, so the next guests can enjoy it too.

Notify us right away if anything breaks or isn’t working—we’re happy to fix it, and you won’t be charged for honest communication.

Interaction With Guests & Owners:
Depending on the season, we may be around during your stay. We’re always happy to answer questions or offer local recommendations. If we're in town and you feel like joining us for dinner or a glass of wine with the locals (that’s us), you’re more than welcome to knock! If we’re away, our trusted neighbor will be available to assist you.

We’re excited to host you and hope your time in Highlands is filled with rest, beauty, and memorable moments. Thank you in advance for helping us care for this special place!

Mirror lake bungalow

Out stay was very nice. The place is well appointed and well situated for a quiet time, but not too far from town. Enjoyed watching the squirrels gather hickory nuts for winter.

Fresh and comfortable.

Very well laid out and comfortable. The description is accurate, the check-in was very smooth, and online manual is very clear. This was an excellent alternative to the local hotels.

Great little apartment on Mirror Lake!

My family of 3 had a wonderful time. The apartment was cute, well appointed and very clean. It is a basement apartment so it’s a little dark but we spent most of our time outside so that wasn’t really an issue for us. Mirror Lake was great for canoeing. The location, on a lake, near Highlands can’t be beat! The owners stayed in the house above us our entire week long stay. They were very quiet and extremely respectful of our space. Definitely would rent again!

Excellent stay!

We enjoyed our four night stay in the Highlands. The accommodations were perfectly situated a very short drive from town which served as an excellent hub for our adventures. The host/owner, Bryan, made sure our stay went as expected. The added bonus- my oldest son and I spent a significant amount of time catching fish off the dock. All in all a very special trip.

Perfect Getaway!

Cozy but more than big enough for the two of us. Awesome view of the lake, which has a lot of fish in it by the way. Beautiful views in the neighborhood. You feel like you're secluded, but you're not very far from downtown Highlands. The owners are great to deal with.

Perfect for 2

Great location, convenient to Main St. Only suggestions: No yard made it a bit challenging for puppy potty breaks. Need more outdoor lighting on exterior stairs. Overall, nice for two adults. Price was reasonable.

Perfect size and location

This small, two bedroom bungalow is perfect for a couple looking to get away for a relaxing weekend. There is room for four, but my wife and I found it relaxing and quiet. It is very close to downtown, (about a mile and a half). Everything is new and well thought out. With the exception of all the rain, we had a great stay. Thanks Erin and Bryan. The Moores/Roswell GA

30th Anniversary Get Away

We were looking for a very quiet, secluded, spot and this for the bill. Very clean, nice and comfortable. Def not luxurious so, if that’s what you’re looking for this isn’t it. Was perfect for what we were looking for thought. Nice dock in the lake that we used every evening after our activity for the day. Minutes to downtown Highlands.

Great location, comfortable space

Mirror Lake is a wonderful location for visiting Highlands -- close to town with its shopping and restaurants but also set in a peaceful area. The space is charming and well appointed and the deck and dock are a wonderful place to pass time. We brought a kayak enjoyed using it on the lake. The one bathroom takes some coordination, especially with teens, and the steps down to the lake could be a challenge for some -- but the payoff is worth it. Mirror Lake is aptly named. The owner Bryan responded instantly to one small request we had and offered to point us toward things to do around town, if we needed. We loved our stay.

very nice

was good until the owner sent me an email asking if we had taken a pet after cleaner reported an "abundance of hair". Wasn't sure how to take that! Assured him we had no pet & he seemed content with my response. Probably will use vrbo again in the same area but will choose a property with a fireplace.

Lakeside apartment

The description and pictures of this listing are accurate, except we were not quite expecting how dark the apartment would be. Both outside areas are covered and at least at this time of the year the house appears to be on the shaded side of mirror lake, as the houses across the lake appeared to have a lot of direct sun. It is a very nicely appointed, cozy apartment and the dock is lovely. No one was staying above us during our stay. More lighting inside and screens on the windows so they could be opened would make it feel more airy/open. The A/C is not central but a wall mounted unit. It is very convenient to downtown Highlands.

On Mirror Lake

Nice, clean and quiet. Many steps to navigate from the parking spot to the access door and many to the dock. Unusually high step to get into the bathtub/shower. It’s a very deep tub and the foundation is raised 2 or 3 inches. This may affect people older or those physical challenged. The automatic coded lock on the door is difficult to see the numbers until the first number is entered, then it will light up. Nice dock enabled me to launch my inflatable kayak and enjoy the lake. Also be aware of the challenging narrow roads which are common in this area. Also, only one parking spot for this lower apartment. Overall positive stay and the owner was available to answer questions.

Nice basement unit but very small

Owners are great and place is done well. It is in the basement of the house and therefore has drain pipes running throughout and you can of course hear everything from above.. It is very small with short ceilings so if you are a tall/larger/claustrophobic person and/or more than one/two people it will feel even smaller then it actually is ( we are 6’4” and 5’11” with a 9lb dog) There are a few smaller windows but no screens so you really can’t open the windows/doors to enjoy the fresh air without also letting in the mosquitos etc that are very common in Highlands along mirror lake. Pretty lake views and location is awesome. Parking is a challenge if you drive a truck or have more than one vehicle but perfect for a small car. It’s also a good bit darker Inside then the light filled pictures indicate in the profile. With all that in mind it could be a great choice for the right people.

Be mindful this is, very small, dark apartment under an occupied house.

This place in not a house or cabin, it is more like a townhouse or apartment and the fact that the house above us will be occupied at the whole time was beyond our imagination. You can hear all movement above, even when they use the bathroom. We paid significant amount of money to rent a cabin for relaxing and privacy, and not an occupied place. Overall we neither had calmness nor privacy. Not even for one day! I write this review because, there was no indication in the description that the rent would be occupied which obviously dramatically decrease the value of the rent, and we wouldn't have ever rented it if we had known it in advance.
