This was a favorite stay for every family member. Total privacy yet close to town and other area attractions, endless opportunities for exploring and hiking, and amazing wildlife. We will absolutely come back.
You are really by yourself in a lovely cottage in a canyon, you can hear the highway about 1/2 mile in front of the cabin, but you really don't see it, you feel like you are out there by yourself, very nice, nice hiking trail up the hills behind you. Nice front porch and screened in back porch. It rained a lot while we were there, and the rain sounded great on the front porch roof.
The hostess was wonderful and saw to our every need. The cabin afforded private isolation yet was conveniently close to Ft Davis. We were very comfortable and will be back.

Quiet, cozy and centrally located
This little cabin is basic but comfortable. It features beautiful views and solitude. It’s location, in a valley up a private dirt drive, is convenient for services in town and access to the state park, the observatory and the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute. We enjoyed our stay.
The cabin is in a beautiful setting. It is convenient to town but secluded and quiet. There was an abundance of wildlife and plenty of area to hike and explore. The host had obviously thought of everything we might need. This very special place made for an unforgettable trip!
Everything was perfect, Great Viewing from the front & Back Porches. Saw Deer, Turkey,Hogs,Bobcat & lots of different birds.
If your looking for little R&R , this is the place. All of this & your only about 5-6 minutes from town!
The most beautiful setting we've ever stayed in and the cabin is wonderful. It is super clean, equipped with everything needed, and extremely comfortable. Jennifer is wonderful host! Her response to questions was immediate and very helpful! She made us feel welcome and right at home.
Enjoyed the opportunity to stay at a small cabin in the middle of a big ranch with even bigger views. This cabin and it's surroundings are in line with what's described in the listing, and is great for a solo trip, couples getaway, or a small family (3-4) vacation. The modern amenities (wifi, A/C, etc.) are all great and functional, however, this place really shines when you simply step outside to the open front porch, or to the screened in back porch. The views and sounds of nature are worth the long "driveway" to the property, and don't miss the wonderful views of mountains and huge trees along the driveway. I will definitely be back!

A comfy cabin in a beautiful setting, convenient to all the Davis Mtns attractions.
The cabin is very private but only a few minutes from Ft Davis. Jennifer leaves you alone but is easily accessible if a problem arises. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfy, the living room small but equipped with two comfortable easy chairs and a couch. All in all, we couldn't have asked for more. We'll be back!!

Mountain Cabin Paradise!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your cabin. It was clean, comfortable and so peaceful. We had everything we needed. We are amateur birders and added several species to our life list while enjoying your back porch. Our favorite was the songs of the canyon wrens! Every evening we went on "ranch adventures" driving around the dirt roads between the gate and the cabin and saw all kinds of wildlife. A fabulous place to stay. We highly recommend it.
We loved the cabin on Sproul Ranch...we’re farmers, so having someone get out of the car, unlock the gate, and then drive through the cottonwoods to the end of the road was downright homey. The nights were deeply silent and the stars were bright as flashlights. Our visit coincided with the Geminid meteor shower as well as the coming together of Saturn and Jupiter ...
So many wonders!
The cabin is neat as a pin, cozy but modern with good heat and appliances. The views are spectacular, a great warm up for the wonders of Big Bend.
A December trip yielded some brisk winds, bright sunshine, chilly nights and sweatshirt days. The front porch was comfortable but I bet the screened backporch is wonderful in warmer months.
Jennifer was prompt with communication. And very easy going with dos and don’ts.
A great stay for the two of us..
Great spot for access to the Davis Mts. , Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory. We learned so much about West Texas history.
The cabin was perfect. I only marked it down a star for cleanliness because it is not new, but it certainly was very clean. Well stocked with towels and wash cloths (much appreciated, often missing), dish towels, and assorted kitchen utensils. Nice selection of pots and pans. We enjoyed being able to cook our own food and found Porters in town extremely well stocked.
Everything was great at the cabin. The heat worked well. We did not need to try the air conditioning. Bed very comfortable. We traveled with a friend who made use of the sofa bed in the living room. Although the floor plan is open, we had privacy.
Loved the front porch and the back screened porch. We could have used more time to hang out. But Texas is vast and we are off to Big Bend.
Thanks to our hosts for a great spot.
Cabin was just as pictured, a/c units worked very well to keep cabin cool. Porches were perfect for listening to birds, especially early morning & late afternoon. We hiked the hills behind the cabin (steep & rocky) for gorgeous views! Highly recommend RNR Smokehouse in Ft. Davis for lunch - they close around 3.
We’ve been looking for a private getaway and this is just what we needed. The morning sun was amazing! We saw plenty of wildlife and really enjoyed the mountains. The property manager was prompt with her responses and was very helpful.
We loved the cabin and the secluded location. Porches on each side gave us a beautiful view on each side. The decorating was gorgeous and cabin had everything we could have ever needed. Enjoyed watching the wildlife around the cabin. Would love to go back again.
The cabin was perfect. Close to town but far enough away to feel like you were out in the middle of nowhere. Cabin was clean and stocked with everything one would need. Had water dripping that enticed birds to come to drink. Could sit in screened in porch to watch the birds. The only thing that would have made it better is if they had a king size bed in the cabin.

About the host

Welcome to the Sproul Family Ranch, located in the heart of the beautiful Davis Mountains! The original Sproul Ranch was founded in 1886 by Robert Stuart Sproul. Over 130 years later, the ranch is still a working cattle ranch, owned and operated by the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of Sproul descendants.
Why they chose this property
We love Limpia Canyon and want to share a piece of our paradise with you! We built the cabin in 1998 so that people could come experience the serenity and majesty of the Davis Mountains.
What makes this property unique
The quiet, peaceful solitude of La Cabaña Escondida will make you love this place as much as we do!
