Relax in this cozy 2 bedroom cottage, nestled on a 575 wooded acre preserve with a rushing native trout stream with a series of mini water falls with a huge cool soothing swimming hole. There is an abundance of wildlife, an exceptionally pristine natural wooded landscape. Perfect for a quiet romantic getaway, only 75 miles away from New York City.
Entering the driveway, one begins a slow descent into the relaxed, other-worldly aura of the peaceful, bucolic and mysterious Dwarfskill Glen, traveling half a mile before reaching the cottage, the four-bedroom vintage main lodge (VRBO # 414465) and a small one-room cabin (VRBO#: 445407). From the top of the driveway, one can see a far ridge, which is part of the Dwarfskill Preserve Property.
This building is one of three rental properties at the Dwarfskill Preserve, which include a 4 BR Lodge, 2BR Cottage and 1Rm Cabin. The buildings are spaced around a large circle at the end of a 1/2 mile driveway. The Lodge faces the Dwarfskill Creek and its screen porch and deck cannot be seen from the other two buildings; the Cottage faces a meadow, similarly private. The Cabin sits between the other two buildings, at the beginning of the trail to the waterfall on the 575 acre property. The only other habitable structure on the property is the Caretaker's Barn, halfway up the driveway, which is not available for short-term rental.
The open combined kitchen, dining and living area in the cottage is all knotty pine with wood floors, ceiling fan, cathedral ceiling with French doors leading to a large screened in porch overlooking the meadow, with a picnic table, charcoal grill, abutting the forest. Two small bedrooms, each with queen size beds. Comfortable furniture, gas stove and kitchen stocked with necessary dishes, cookware and spices. Immaculately clean, with quality bed and bath linens. Window Air Condition Unit in the main bedroom.
The Dwarfskill creek is just down a path through the woods; it can be heard babbling through the dense hemlock and pine forest as it rushes downstream to Split Rock Falls (ten minute walk from the cottage). More than a mile of the Dwarfskill, which is a naturally-reproducing trout stream, runs through the property.
The cabin is located six miles from Milford, PA, which Atlantic Magazine once called “the prettiest county seat in America”; three-quarters of the village is in a National Historic District and it galleries, antiques, coffee shops, boutiques and specialty shopping.
Heritage attractions include Grey Towers (Richard Morris Hunt-designed 19th c. stone mansion), The Columns Museum (featuring the blood-stained Lincoln flag, which cushioned the President's head moments after he was shot) and the Hotel Fauchere/Relais & Chateau (see website at hotelfauchere) with its three restaurants, patisserie, day spa, vintage menu collection and permanent exhibit of Hudson River School paintings.

My wife and I had a wonderful time staying here for our anniversary! The Cottage was clean and well kept. The directions to the Cottage from the host were very thorough and helpful. The welcome binder inside was well thought out and full of great information. The property is beautiful, quiet and relaxing. Would definitely recommend!
This getaway was exactly what we needed to decompress. The quiet was so serene and rejuvenating and the property was beautiful. We loved being able to explore the woods and along the water, especially the swimming hole and the taller waterfall 1/4 mile downstream. We stayed in The Cottage (building on the right in the photo) and every building had its own private areas. We were impressed with the modern comforts (solid wifi, great hot water and water pressure), the history of the property, the welcoming host, and overall, did I mention - It was SO quiet and perfect to destress. We caught a glimpse of a bear in the woods and saw some wild turkeys as we left. Highly recommend and we are already thinking about bringing family and renting more of the buildings.
Surrounding property was scenic and beautiful.nothing like it out there .i loved the yard and sun porch as did the dog.people nearby but yard felt very private.cabin clean and we'll stocked but did not look like the photos esp.living room.the living room had a small love seat for seating only and is very compact.there is no tv .I suggest a record player!the issues I mentioned didn't matter to us as we were outside majority of the time and the weather was lovely.we would definitely love to revisit and would stay at same cottage.if have time to waste before check in Milford is a cute little town and lake harmony (nicks lake house)was great.both have dog friendly places.otherwise you won't want to leave once you get there....
We enjoyed a peaceful long weekend at this beautiful property. We stayed in the cottage, which was rustic, and true to the photos. It's worth noting that there is also a screened-in porch, which is wonderful after sun-down. We ate all our meals at the picnic table so we could drink in the beauty of nature that surrounds this serene property. The creek is an easy walk, very cold (!) and there is a big swimming hole, which was quite refreshing.
We appreciated that Sean and Javier met us when we arrived quite late at night to welcome us to the property.
Staying here was so nice (although the weather was a bit cold and rained one day but not their fault :) ). We were looking for a quiet, Fall weekend get away from NYC. this place really delivered. Its really quiet, very remote from the Main road (about a five min. drive). There are two other cabins on the property but far enough apart that you won't notice they are there. It was to cold for us to hang out at the Creek/Waterfall but it is a really nice walk down to it and I am sure in the summer it is nice to swim. Also the covered screened in Porch is lovey to sit in. Again to cold for us to hang out there. But would have been great if it was really sunny and/or hot (theres a ceiling fan to help keep the air moving)Also while there is no TV the wifi is strong enough to stream from everywhere, Which is nice, even in the parking area. Since Cell Phone service in the general area (even i parts of Milford) are spotty. So we could get our Destination put in before losing service. The town of Milford is really nice with lots of restaurant and coffe choices. Overall a plesant stay with lots of hiking and eats near by. Or just to relax and enjoy nature. Looking forward to come back some day when the weather will cooperate a bit more. One thing to note, The Couch and Chair in the Pictures have changed. there is no Recliner and the Couch is a different Leather one. Instead of the recliner. there is a Rocking chair to the left of the couch.
Picture of inside cabin needs to be updated. Furniture is different. Comfortable beds. No extra blankets but heat and hot water worked well. Bathroom door cannot be fully closed, about a 1/2 inch gap. Pull down shades are old and not fully functional. Overall it’s a great old cabin, extremely peaceful spot and waterfall with deck and chairs is amazing.
We wanted a place with as little interaction with people as possible. There’s a town not too far if socializing is your thing but for us, it was about campfire, grilling, and exploring. The creek is great view and can follow it in either direction to see it in its natural condition. Just be wary that the terrain as is not optimal for people with movement difficulty or young children. We was always alert for the possibility of a black bear but did not notice any. The clean air, lush green, wind rustles, creek water, and aves animals set a nice atmosphere. Overall we had a great time and the wife didn’t want to go back home.
Great! Listing isn't kidding when it says isolated so if that's what your looking for, this place is perfect. Also, the internet held up for the two of us well. Hope to be back again
My son and I loved being in a 600-acre preserve with a series of wild, utterly remote waterfalls. The cottage we rented was perfect for us--pine walls, ceiling, and floors, a kitchen and bathroom with all the necessaries, the best in comfortable beds. We especially appreciated the works of art on the wall. The "Reliquariarum," for example, is a stunning, thoughtful-provoking, amazing piece, a far cry from the cloying cutsie decorations often found in these remote cabins.
My friends and I stayed at this Cabin for 5 nights. The surroundings are serene, rugged and beautiful. There is a creek nearby that you can hear from the cabin. The cabin is clean with just what you need for a relaxing stay. There is a huge lawn with a fire pit, Adirondack chairs and a charcoal grill. We enjoyed a campfire every night. There are a mosquitos and flies so be prepared with a repellent.

Not great
Not child friendly. Swimming seemed a bit dangerous. Fishing was limited due to trees fallen in the water. Path to water is quite strenuous. Environment around cabin was nice, cabin was cozy, but wouldn't rent again.

Don't Fish Here
Many trees fallen from winter kill blocking stream access for Fishing and Swimming.
Poor representation on web site.

I'm very sorry you were disappointed. There is about a mile of the Dwarfskill stream on the property and many fishing holes along it. Along that mile there are maybe 15 trees down in the stream, so there shouldn't be any problem finding plenty of areas to fish or, in the wider and deeper parts, swim. When we had the huge storm several years ago, we did remove most of the trees that fell but we left some in large part to help create protective habitats for a greater variety of species. The stream naturally reproduces trout, but that is in jeopardy when the stream gets too much sun, as it makes the water too warm. The felled trees bring more sunlight to the stream, so leaving some in the stream creates shadier areas and keeps the stream from warming up as much. Again, we are very sorry you were disappointed, we rarely have had unhappy guests.
Loved how quiet the property was, the only thing you could hear was the water fall that was nearby. Great that there were trails to explore. The screened back porch with a ceiling fan was also great, we had great afternoons just laying out there reading. Loved this cabinand hope to come back!

Cottage
It was nice and quiet place to stay, it was pretty much as listed except for the pictures made it look a lot bigger then it was. Also we ran out of hot water every time we took showers. And the beds weren’t best. But otherwise it was absolutely awesome. And very beautiful on the hiking trails and by the water falls.
Wanted to have a nice relaxing long weekend and couldn’t have expecting anything better. Great views and sounds everywhere you look. Perfect for a family getaway. Very secluded.
We had a wonderful experience. We were on over 500 acres of beautiful land with waterfalls and rivers. We loved the wood burning stove, very cozy. The accommodations were rustic and very nice and clean. Exactly what we were looking for!
I would recommend removing the newly fallen trees in the river.
The town is close by, quaint and the people are very nice!

Owner is a writer and investor who lives in nearby Milford and New York City. Loves dogs, nature, reading and gentle, kind people.
Why they chose this property
I bought the property because it is exceedingly private, evokes a spiritual connection to nature and it is movie-set gorgeous. It is also close to NYC, only 75 miles away, but it feels like you’re in the Canadian northwoods or somewhere far away from the stresses and pressures of urban life.
What makes this property unique
Mushrooming; trout fishing; hiking; wildlife including black bear, deer, wild turkey, mountain lion. Very few mosquitoes (the bats eat them.)
Pond; stream; waterfall; swimming hole.
Exceptional privacy, half-mile long driveway.
The Historic Village of Milford - the birthplace of the American Conservation movement - is only 6 miles away, with heritage & cultural attractions, antiques and great restaurants (including the Delmonico Room, Bar Louis & the Patisserie Fauchere at The Hotel Fauchere, co-owned by the owner of this cottage).
70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
