5 stars to Villa Il Carrubo and the host, Raffaella. The villa is extremely clean and comfortable, and the outdoor spaces and view of the Bay of Salerno are spectacular. We chose this villa instead of one in Positano or Praiano due to its location on the Sorrento peninsula instead of further south on the Amalfi coast, and what a great decision that was. The traffic on the 2 lane road through the Amalfi coast is ridiculous, even pre-season, and if we had stayed further south on the coast we would have spent the entire trip sitting in traffic.
Villa Il Carrubo is just outside the inland village of Sant’Agata sui Dui Golfi which has the usual restaurants, gas stations, shops, a Conad grocery store, and several gelateria for your nightly dessert. Although Sant’ Agata is easy to find with your GPS, the road to the villa will require following Raffaella on your first drive there, after which you can set your GPS accordingly.
Villa Il Carrubo has lovely views from the two very nice upper floor bedrooms, a bath on the upper floor, plus another bed and bath on the lower floor along with a large eat-in kitchen and living room with large flat screen TV (TVs are also available in the bedrooms) and access to the several patio areas. The WiFi worked well (Raffaella likes to use the WiFi based WhatsApp instead of texting since telephone service is spotty). The bath rooms are large but European in style, and the dishwasher is wonderful to have on vacation as is the clothes washer (line dry which is amazingly quick in the sun). Most importantly, if you have any questions or concerns, Raffaella is very responsive and happy to help guests.
Another benefit to the location of Villa Il Carrubo is the relatively short drive (1.5 hr) to Pompeii and Herculaneum, shorter drive to the Sorrento dock (30 minutes) for the hydrofoil to Naples or Capri, and very short drive (15 minutes!) to the small but lovely coastal village of Marina del Cantone with multiple restaurants, a pebble beach, and boat trips to Capri, Positano and Amalfi. But of course once you see the infinity pool over the Bay of Salerno at Villa Il Carrubo, you may never want to leave your new home on the Sorrento peninsula.
