Hello, I’m Don. After a career as a firefighter and years of traveling, I now enjoy welcoming guests with the kind of straightforward communication, thoughtful preparation, and comfortable whole-home stay I value on my own trips.

My adventures include extensive travel through Mexico and Central America, two motorcycle rides from Tijuana to Vancouver along the Pacific Coast, a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp, and sailing a 40-foot boat from San Diego to Hawaii. In Africa I trekked with mountain gorillas, joined a Maasai Mara photo safari, and rafted the Nile. I’m also an avid scuba diver and lionfish slayer.

I love helping guests enjoy Oliver Lee Cabin’s mountain setting, fireplace, nearby fishing, and quiet forest surroundings. I give guests space while remaining available through Vrbo for questions and practical tips.

Timberon is a remote mountain community at about 7,000 feet, surrounded by Lincoln National Forest and about 32 scenic miles from Cloudcroft. This Paradise Valley area is near the nine-hole golf course, stocked fishing lakes and seasonal pool. Guests come for quiet, dark skies, wildlife and forest trails. Groceries, fuel and services are limited, and cell coverage can be weak. Local gravel and dirt roads may have loose rock or washboard; rain, snow and ice can change conditions quickly.

Most guests arrive by car. ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides are widely used around Timberon and on legal nearby trails. Please follow local rules, stay off private property and drive slowly through the neighborhood. Four-wheel drive and good tires are helpful on gravel and dirt roads, especially during rain, snow or ice. In normal conditions, our housekeepers drive these roads every day in a Honda Civic. Download maps before arrival because cell service and turn-by-turn directions can be unreliable.

You have the entire cabin to yourselves, along with the porch, deck, and yard. There's plenty of parking for your trailer and 4-wheelers. Guests also enjoy Timberon's community amenities: the stocked fishing lake (New Mexico fishing license required — available at Walmart), the nine-hole golf course next door, the community pool in summer, and a public 5,200-foot airstrip. The High Country Lounge and package store is just steps away for a quick bite, a cocktail, or Saturday night karaoke. If you bring a side-by-side, please make sure it has a spark arrestor and is properly licensed for off-road use, and drive responsibly on our community roads.

Sleeping layout: a king bedroom, a full bedroom, and a living-room sofa bed. Features include covered deck, fireplace, and shared fire pit and hot tub a short walk away. Supplies and fuel are limited in Timberon, so arrive prepared. REMOTE-STAY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Before booking, please confirm you understand that cellular service and nearby services are limited; access includes unpaved roads; wild animals may be outdoors; and fast-changing mountain weather can temporarily affect power, water, or other utilities. Fast Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and compatible phones can use Wi-Fi calling. No outside fires or open-flame grilling without prior host permission.
