A modern kitchen and open living area on the 2nd floor capture views of the ocean and access to a west-facing and south deck with BBQ. This floor also has a small TV room that serves as a bedroom with foldout couch, and a bathroom with 2 sinks and a bathtub, and adjoining large capacity laundry room. This was a family home for 30 yrs, chosen by my mother, Dorothy. Though she's gone now, the many years we enjoyed visiting this home have great memories. It was a great house for the 5 of us friends, the kitchen had everything we needed. Great view of the sunset and short walk to the beachThe beds were comfortableThe host was quick to respond to questions and sent detailed instructions and suggestions where to explore and eat. We would stay here again!
Great house for a group of seven. The bedrooms were a great size and perfect to have 3 bathrooms!!! Wonderful location to walk to the beach and the park area by Mo's so the grandsons could play. We had elk all around the house on the first day, so fun to watch. I like the Tolovana area, not so crowded on the beach and quiet. Three days of sunny weather and calm wind.
This is a beautiful home to spend your vacation or a weekend away. It is just one block from a super cute coffee shop and barely a block from the beach. We had a fantastic time. You can easily walk to Haystack rock. It’s a quiet and lovely location with everything you could possibly need. Most important to me is that the bed was incredibly comfortable and warm highly recommend.
Nice location away from busy downtown but close to a very beautiful area of beach. My family enjoyed our stay, loved having fires on the beach. The house was equipped with all necessities including plenty of towels, soap, tp, etc. We were all very comfortable staying here and would return if ever in the area again.
This was a great property and experience and it enhanced our visit to Cannon Beach. The location is perfect for access to the beach, hikes, biking, shopping, etc. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Cannon Beach.
Everything was great, our stay at the Dorothy Lou has become a yearly tradition. The house fits our family perfectly and it’s an easy walk to the beach. The decks are great to sit and relax.
My family had never visited Cannon Beach and we were blown away by the beauty of this place. The Dorothy Lou Beach home was perfect regarding location, convenience and outdoor/indoor spaces.
Great property just a few blocks off the beach. Very clean and all in good repair. We especially liked the fact that the kitchen was well appointed so we were able to cook effectively (many VRBOs we are in have spartan supplies/utensils). Highly recommend. Quick note - if you have trouble with stairs this could be an issue — there is one primary bedroom downstairs with en suite but all other living area is upstairs. Did not impact our stay, but just fyi.We will definitely rebook here if we are back in town.
Excellent location - easy beach access in a quiet neighborhood. Great views! Very comfortable house for 2 families. Easy communication with owner - we will be back!
This house is perfect. Plenty of space for everyone to move around. The decks are great for catching some afternoon sun and the kitchen has everything you need. The owner is prompt with check in details and very reachable if needed. This was our 3rd stay and already have the house booked for next summer. Beach is also a very short and easy walk.
This is the 3rd time I've rented this great house to host a number for friends from different parts of the country, all of whom love Cannon Beach. This time there were 7 of us and the house easily accommodated us. The kitchen is very well equipped; there are even good knives, everyone found the beds to be comfortable, there was plenty of hot water. The view from the deck makes cocktail time even more enjoyable. The location can't be beat. I hope to be able to make a return visit next Spring.
Our family (my husband and I, our 7 year old son, and his grandparents) all loved staying at the Dorothy Lou. The home itself is very clean and well appointed, plenty of towels and linens. Having access to the beach, amazing coffee shop, and grocery store all within walking distance made our stay a breeze. Some of our favorite memories we will take from the trip are our morning walks to the tide pools by Haystack Rock and playing board games around the table in the evenings. We would love to stay again!

About the host
Hosted by Karl Hadley
Hi, we are Karl & Kelly, co-owners of The Dorothy Lou. We are native Washingtonians & we enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, boating, good music and good food often shared with family or friends. We're experienced property managers, having operated a Hood River VRBO vacation home for 20 years. We bring those skills and customer service to this home in Cannon Beach, OR.
Why they chose this property
Cannon Beach is a long time favorite destination of ours, and Karl's mother, Dorothy, purchased this home in 1980 when her mother died. On Dorothy's passing in 2013, we just couldn't sell the home, so we decided to buy it, and did an extensive remodel in 2016. To honor my mother's memory and her affection for Cannon Beach, we've named the home after her.
What makes this property unique
It is just a short 2 minute walk to the beach, and situated away from the more crowded area of Cannon Beach proper. Haystack is in sight & just a 10 minute stroll away. You'll also enjoy quick access to Highway 101 if you want to explore towns to the south, like Manzanita, Nehalem, Rockaway & Tillamook, or beaches like Hug Point, or Oswald State Park. To the North is Seaside, Gearhart and Astoria, with great history of the Lewis and Clark Trail, Maritime museums, great golf courses, restaurants and breweries.
