About this property
ZigZag Glacier Cabin - hot tub, wood stove, Sandy River
Steps to the Sandy River, our home is at the end of a cul-de-sac backed by Mt Hood National Forest. Sip your coffee on the deck and listen to incredible birdsong. Set off in all directions - hiking trails, multiple river access points. Grill on the deck or cook in the well-stocked kitchen. Enjoy the hot tub, which faces a seasonal pond. Cozy up by the wood stove and listen to LPs on the turntable. Fall asleep to the sound of the river.
The 1G internet and TV with Roku, Netflix, and HDMI cable will keep you in touch with the outside world, and you can find several workspaces throughout the house. Or you can enjoy our record player and books/puzzles/games for all ages.
If you have little ones, we have outlet covers, a highchair, and a bedroom with whimsical nature décor, bunk bed, toys, books, pack-n-play, salt lamp, nightlight, and noise machine.
The kitchen is well stocked. You're welcome to enjoy the food in the pantry and condiments in the fridge. Coffee lovers can use the auto drip, Aeropress, or pour over. There's an electric kettle, waffle iron, and much more. We're constantly adding things to make it more like home.
The back porch is great for grilling and outdoor dining. Contact us ahead of time for the grill lock code and bring your own propane.
There are a few camping chairs you can take out into the woods for secluded riverside lounging. You're likely to see deer, hawks, and other wildlife.
If you want to venture farther, our guest guidebook includes restaurant recommendations and trail info. The ZigZag Ranger station is nearby - they have tons of great info about hiking, skiing, mushroom hunting, etc.
During the winter, we recommend bringing your 4-wheel drive vehicle or snow chains. We're at 1,600 feet and generally get light snow in Jan/Feb, but sometimes it really dumps. Either way, it usually only takes a few minutes to gain elevation and find deeper snow.
Please let us know upon booking if you plan to bring dogs. Two well-behaved pups are allowed - no fees unless we find damage, extra cleaning needs, or neighbor complaints. There are food and water bowls and in the kitchen. Keep them off furniture and beds - we’ve already replaced one mattress due to an accident by a “potty trained” dog. Also, keep them leashed while in the village boundaries.
There's a driveway and carport with room for 3 vehicles. Do NOT park on the neighborhood streets. The HOA will fine us, and we will need to pass the fine along to you.
When you’re on our rear deck (facing south), you’ll feel calm seclusion. You’ll face the rainforest and feel the stress of life slip away. But this isn’t a solitary house in the woods. We have neighbors that are pretty close on both sides. You’ll see other people on the trails. We like to think of our neighbors as our safety in paradise. And it's not hard to find total seclusion.
Absolutely no parties. We learned the hard way that parties harm our house and our relationship with the neighbors. We hope to prevent further damage to our house that we worked so hard to buy. If you host a party, we will charge $100 per person plus fees to cover the inevitable damages. Not trying to be jerks, but our family really can't afford the financial and emotional toll of having this special place treated poorly.
That being said... we're dedicated to helping you enjoy your time, whether that means leaving you alone to explore the house and surrounding area or answering tons of questions. This place is truly special, and we look forward to sharing it with you. Have fun, and sleep deeply!

About the host
Hosted by Laura Hall

We're Midwest raised but have lived in the Portland area for 25+ years. Our kids, rescue pup, and jobs keep us busy, but we relish any chance we can get to enjoy our sweet "cabin" in the woods. Owning it is a dream come true, and we're happy to share the specialness of the cabin with renters.
Why they chose this property
ZigZag Village is a quiet neighborhood next to the beautiful Sandy River. There are trails to the north and south that follow the river, and it's easy to spend hours poking along the river and marveling at nature's power and beauty. To the south is an area where you can see how the river reshaped things after a major flood that occurred about 12 years ago. It's incredible to see how the river is constantly moving rocks and trees - it's different every time we are there! Spring is our favorite time to be at the cabin.
What makes this property unique
While the front of our house feels like you're in a neighborhood, the back abuts the national forest, so it feels nicely secluded from the back deck. A rough trail will lead you over the seasonal pond to the tennis court and then down a dreamy moss-covered trail through the woods.
Inside the house, we've got almost everything you'll need. It will feel like home - because it is! This isn't a property management-run money maker. We maintain the house as our home away from home. If something's off, please let us know so we can make it right!
