Enjoy room for your family to spread out, just an easy walk from NYC transportation and with free parking for one car. This spacious home features three bedrooms: two with queen beds, and one with a twin bed and trundle. We also have a pack n play crib and high chair available. Recently updated bathrooms: downstairs full bath has a standup shower, and the upstairs full bath has a large bathtub with shower. This is an older home with a gravel driveway, some uneven flooring transitions, and curving staircase, so please keep accessibility needs in mind if mobility will be a challenge for any guests.
Large living room with sectional couch, armchairs, and TV, plus full-size dining room with seating for six. The eat-in kitchen has lots of counter space and all new appliances. Amenities include full-size laundry machines (located in the unfinished basement), free parking for one car, and use of the huge front porch.
This is a typical city neighborhood, not gentrified, and a little rough around the edges. Please research the location before booking. We live just a few doors down with our two young children and always feel safe and comfortable, but if you are looking for a suburban or luxury feel, this home probably won't be a good fit for you. This is a two-family home, with the rear unit owner-occupied.
Sit on the porch and enjoy your coffee in the morning, then take an easy walk to the light rail and enjoy a day of sightseeing in New York City. Citi Bikes are located right on the corner of our block. Easily bike, drive, or take the light rail to nearby Liberty State Park for incredible views of the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, and both Manhattan and Brooklyn; beautiful running, walking, and biking paths; fun playgrounds; and delicious food trucks. American Dream Mall is a short drive away, with an ice rink, giant Ferris wheel, aquarium, Lego Land, Nickelodeon indoor theme park, and more. Liberty Science Center is a must if you’re visiting with kids (or just like to nerd out over planetariums and dinosaurs!). Our neighborhood also features beautiful Berry Lane Park just a ten-minute walk away, Torico Ice Cream across from the park playground, and easy access to downtown Jersey City with tons of great restaurants and local shopping.
We are local parents and we've stocked this home with your family in mind! Coffee maker ready to go with filters and beans; basic pots, pans, dinnerware, and utensils; kids dinnerware; spices for cooking; and toiletries in the bathrooms. The living room features board games, puzzles, and coffee table books for cozy nights in. Baby crib, high chair, and stroller are also available on request.
Pets under 20 pounds welcome! Please let us know if you are bringing your furry friend, we are happy to set up doggie bowls for you. Must keep dog on leash when outside.
One outdoor security camera is in use in the back yard.

Beautiful and historic house. Very charming. My kids loved it and wanted to live there forever! Location is extremely convenient to public transportation. Was a great stay! Thank you!
We really enjoyed this property. It had a ton of character and was relaxing to come back to after a day in the city. The walk to public transit was pretty short and it was easy to get into the city. The street parking situation was crazy so it was great to have the reserved spot to not have to worry about parking. It was clean and the kitchen was well stocked too.
The house was amazing, really cleaned. It had some decorations for Christmas, which was nice. The Host of this property, were amazing. Definitely would be staying here again.

The ability to be able to park on site was a stress free perk and made this beautiful property one of our favorites.
I appreciated how the house came with plenty of bedding, and little comforts like coffee creamer, herbal tea, lotion, bathing soaps, and tissues. We spent most of our week in NYC, but it was nice to have a home base to return to each night with comfortable beds, 2 bathrooms, dining, and living room. When traveling with a while family, having a whole house to ourselves was really nice. Thank you!
The house was absolutely beautiful and full of character. We loved the decor—it truly made us feel right at home. It was colder than we expected, but we’re from California, so anything below 50 felt very cold! Mike and Amber were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Thank you.

Thanks so much for staying and reviewing us, and for bearing with our cold snap here in NJ!
Extremely nice, historic feeling home! They have done a magnificent job of blending old and new styles! Lots of space, very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Hosts were quick to reply to all our questions and superb to work with! Public transportation into NYC was close and easy to navigate. We loved being able to bring our kids to the big apple at Christmastime! Thank you!

Thanks so much for the review! We loved hosting your group.
this was one of the best places we have ever stayed and was absolutely a highlight of our trip. Every detail was so thoughtful, and the house was beautiful. There was so much space for each of our girls and us, the rooms were beautifully laid out, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We loved playing their games and watching movies after long days of exploring New York. It was easy to walk to the light rail stop.

Thanks so much for staying and for the kind words! We were happy to host your group, come back any time.
Our family of 6 stayed here to check out NYC and some area colleges. Our children are as tall as adults and everyone was comfortable with plenty of space. The property is convenient to the HBLR light rail and buses. It was great to have a safe, convenient and free place to park our minivan. The house was super clean and well stocked. The hosts were communicative, friendly and helpful with local knowledge and tips. Highly recommend!

Disliked: Location
Somewhat dated - even thought they did a good job with the property - the location is what we were altogether comfortable with. We were smelling marijuana every time we went outside and during our walks to and from the train stations. We were not comfortable enough to take the train back late at night since it was a little “sketchy” even during daylight hours…

Thanks for staying, and I’m sorry you didn’t love the neighborhood. It’s definitely urban (and marijuana is legal in NJ) so we try to be up front about the area. Glad you found the actual house to be good and hope you enjoyed your trip!

My New York Stay
The property was fine. But the pictures were misleading. The staircase was alittle scarey because the stairs were very steep and narrow. Not easy at all for an older person.

The house is exactly as described. It is close to transporstion to get into NYC and other places. We loved the size because it gave plenty of room for the kids. The house had essentials to clean up after yourself, and also had body wash, shampoo and conditioner. The bed and pillows were comforable, which was nice after walking in NYC all day. The wifi wasn't working the first night, so we couldn't get the TV to work, but we called, and our call was immediately returned and the problem was solved in less than 5 minutes. Great communication.

About the host

Hi! We’re Amber and Mike, longtime Jersey City locals and history enthusiasts. We’ve lived in Jersey City, commuting into New York, for almost two decades and we love to share tips and tricks for both sides of the Hudson River.
Why they chose this property
Bergen-Lafayette is friendly, laid back, and full of active families. Gorgeous views of the Statue of Liberty and easy access to New York, but just a little removed from the hustle and bustle.
What makes this property unique
This is our forever home and we are in the process of lovingly restoring it. This was the first house built in the area in the 1860s, before the rest of the neighborhood went up around it. It’s a farmhouse still standing in the middle of a city block! Unique and historical.
