Wonderful restored farmhouse steeped in history. Rent a rebirth of this grand old home. The porch is the place, fully screened, with a commanding view of the Penobscot river valley and Bucksport across the river, it a wonderful space to dine, play games, or have a glass of wine and conversation. A gas porch heater makes it accessible on all but the coldest days. The rooms you are renting are all newly updated with modern HVAC and the 2 full bathrooms have been completely remodeled, one with soaking tub and walk-in waterfall shower. Two living rooms, 3 electric fireplaces, breakfast nook, DR and the porch make for great family socializing/play spaces (games, puzzles and a few books included). There's a large backyard for the kids or the dogs to romp with a view of the river. At night, have a cozy fire in the firepit out back.

The surrounding area is beautiful, a couple hundred yards from Fort Knox State Park and the Penobscot Bridge Observatory, but central to lots of recreation in the area including Acadia, of course, but also a few ski resorts within an hour's drive. A great public beach is 8 minutes away in Stockton Springs at Sandy Point. Antique shops, historical societies, quaint Maine streets and shopping, great seafood - it's all here.

You have exclusive access to the entire house, porch and yard.

This is a wonderful area an hour from Acadia or the bioluminescence tours in Castine, lakes, streams and the Penobscot river all around you. Charming Bucksport is 5 minutes away across the river, 30 minutes from Bangor. Sandy Point Beach is 8 minutes away.

Excellent place to stay

The house is in a great location and was wonderful for a large family with children. We loved being able to walk to Fort Knox state park and the bridge look out. Bucksport is a cute little town and only about a 5 minute drive from the place. The house could use a little TLC but that wasn’t an issue for us with a group of kids.

The property is truly an old 1832 house. Lovely wide-plank floors tho uneven as expected due to the age. The reno that has been done has been done very well. The host was extremely responsive and ran by when we had questions. During our stay the weather was beautiful so it made time sitting on the porch a real pleasure. We did not use the upstairs which had been done well and had 3 great rooms, one with a sitting area. The stairs were too steep for us to use so we only used the downstairs. Typical of old houses . Closet to use was hall one under stairs but available. Laundry worked well as did the nice kitchen appliances. Around some door facings the paint is peeling a bit so anyone expecting modern pristine perfection might not appreciate that the owners took a disastrous house and are still renovating areas like the other half of second floor. Owner came and mowed yard while we were staying there but out one day. He was most considerate to make sure not to be bothering us There was an excellent book with photos of places to visit within an hour and tips on going there . Big tv in front living room was very nice. Another tv is upstairs where we did not go.It was a very good experience . Everything that has been done is topnotch! Loved the character and history and how clean it was

Check-in was very easy. Kitchen and bathrooms were very good. Loved the porch overlooking the water. Rest of house in process of being updated. All bedrooms we used had comfortable mattresses. We had 2 small problems and the owner was right on top of them.

We fell in love with this property with its great living spaces, wonderful porch with a view of the river, and its long history. We've lovingly restored it and while she still shows a few wear spots, here and there, she is mostly lovely and we are gradually completing her makeover.

Why they chose this property

Just fell in love with the beautiful bridge, the expansive Ft Knox State Park and the wonderful views of the Penobscot River valley.
