LOCATION: Nestled on a quiet canyon street in the Lantern District, this single-family home is just blocks from the Pacific Coast Highway and Town Center bustling with restaurants, coffee and ice cream shops, gyms and fitness studios, surf and dive stores and the weekly farmer’s market. It’s less than a mile to the harbor and just over a mile to several beautiful beaches (Doheny State Beach, Dana Strands Beach, and Salt Creek Beach) renowned for sunbathing, surfing, SUP and other water sports. Several HIIT Gyms, Lagree, Pilates and Yoga studios a half mile away, many of which are on Class Pass.
Salt Creek is home to the Ritz Carlton, and other 5-star resorts within a couple of miles include the Waldorf Astoria, Monarch Beach, Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, and the Montage Laguna Beach. It’s also adjacent to the beach communities of Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.
4 minute drive to the ocean
5 minute drive to the Waldorf Astoria (Great for breakfast and massages!)
7 minute drive to the Ritz Carlton (Great for sunset drinks or a coffee along your walk)
THE HOME: This architectural home was designed and constructed using industrial and eco-friendly materials such as 15-feet-deep caissons, cantilevered steel beams, board-form-finished concrete pillars and beams, hand-built stone and masonry walls, reclaimed wood, and repurposed shipping containers. There are exposed beams and ductwork throughout. It’s fully furnished, two stories and 1,600 square feet with two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, an outdoor shower, a surfboard rack, and a garage finished as a bonus room. There is a central, high-capacity heating and air conditioning system, plus the sea breezes and stone walls keep the house cool and comfortable naturally. The home is highly earthquake resistant and is not in a fire hazard zone. The home’s design and construction process were covered multiple times in the local newspaper, the Dana Point Times.
BEDROOMS: The front bedroom has a king-size Avocado Organic mattress with an adjustable base that has modes for reading, zero gravity mode and anti-snore. It also has a shake function that rocks you to sleep. There are windows on three sides for daytime light, blackouts shades for nighttime sleep, and a patio overlooking the street. The rear bedroom has a television and can be configured to your preference. It can serve as an office with a motorized standing desk and a loveseat, a guest bedroom with a full-size bed, or a combo room with a motorized standing desk and a full-size bed. The rear bedroom has a patio overlooking the lush hillside behind the home with a French bistro table. There is also a full-size murphy bed in the garage, which is fully finished and air conditioned.
Both upstairs patios are lined with clear plexiglass to keep children and pets from crawling out.
BATHROOMS: An outdoor shower with dual shower heads above and for your feet provides a luxurious way to freshen up after a day at the beach. The open full bathroom on the second floor with the bedrooms has a sink, large vanity with ample storage, a toilet and a new walk-in shower. The half bathroom on the lower floor has a sink, vanity and toilet.
KITCHEN & OUTDOOR LIVING: The ground floor provides a seamless indoor/outdoor space with multiple cooking, eating and seating areas. The kitchen has custom Italian cabinets, quartz countertops, reclaimed French limestone floors, new appliances, and a 72-bottle wine refrigerator. For eating, there are three stools along the peninsula and a 2-person dining table. The kitchen opens to the front and side patio areas via a bifold La Cantina door, a front Dutch door, and a pass-through flip out window with an Italian travertine countertop. The Bison pedestal deck is made of Brazilian hardwood and includes a sofa, coffee table, standing counter with sun umbrella, water feature, and native California drought-tolerant landscaping that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. There’s a Vegepod raised planter for growing your own herbs and vegetables. In the back is a private patio area with a bench, fire table, Infratek overhead electric heaters, gas grill, television and Sonos speakers.
GREAT ROOM: The great room on the second floor includes a dining area and living area with access to the front patio. The dining area has a 6-person dining table, and the living area has a sitting area, 75” Sony television and Sonos speakers. There is porcelain tile plank flooring, and reclaimed beams and wood accent wall add character and warmth.
GARAGE OR BONUS ROOM: The garage has been finished with polished concrete floors, heating and air conditioning, a side-sliding garage door, and a secret man door. It can be used as a 1-car garage with a Tesla Wall Connector level 2 EV charger or utilized as a guest bedroom with its murphy bed, an office, or artist studio.
