About this property

Charming 1-bedroom cottage on Center Hill Lake. Pet friendly!

Discover this enchanting 1-bedroom gem on Center Hill Lake outside Baxter. Nestled in a serene setting on a point above the lake, this cozy cottage features a living area with a kitchenette, a separate bedroom with a full size captain's bed, and a modern bathroom with a refreshing shower. It's a charming retreat where you can unwind and relax amid nature.

Sheltered under spruce, pine, poplar, and hickory trees on a wooded point into the lake, this intimate getaway cottage offers solace and comfort. At its tiny porch entrance, a small flower garden adds color and texture to the surroundings. The front door is equipped with a keypad door lock.

With a Tree of Life theme, the living area has a comfy love seat that faces a small electric fireplace, which can also serve as an extra heat source. The coffee table top can be lifted to become a workstation or an artist table. A computer workstation with a pull-out seat stands in a corner. Also available are WiFi and a TV.

The kitchenette has a bistro table, a small refrigerator, a two-burner radiant cooktop, a small microwave, a coffee maker, and a toaster. The cupboards contain dinnerware, glassware, and serving dishes as well as cookware plus cooking and eating utensils. Other stocked items include tea, coffee, salt and pepper, sugar, artificial sweetener, paper towels, and cleaning agents. If you would like to have something additional, please advise us.

The bedroom has a full-size bookcase captain's bed with three drawers. The bookcase has shelves, a storage compartment, a built-in charging/power station, and two touch lamps with power/charging ports. The bedroom window features black-out curtains. You can control the ceiling light and fan remotely.

There is a small closet in the pass-through to the bathroom. The bathroom features a pedestal sink with a rollout storage cart underneath and a wall niche in the left wall. The porcelain shower has a large shower head, a small window, a wall niche, and a folding glass door. The toilet is a push button dual flush. The cabinet over it contains extra linens and storage space.

The cottage is pet-friendly and smoke-free, including vaping. It has a smoke detector and a fire extinguisher.

Wildlife thrives all around the cottage. We maintain feeders for birds, including hummingbirds. The wild turkeys come around to nibble off what falls from the feeders. Deer arrive usually at dusk, and we provide special food and feeders for them. Because we are close to the lake, you may find large turtles making their way upslope from the lake or trekking downslope back to the water. Occasionally, you may see a snake sunning itself, but most stay within the thick woods close to the lake. And you will see raptors and vultures soaring over the slopes. The black vultures are stunningly beautiful, and the raptors can make quite a sound. Song birds abound, and they call or sing from early morning to early evening. You will also find field mice scurrying around old tree stumps and rocky outcrops, along with squirrels, bunnies, chipmunks, and insects. This is their home.

Activities and destinations abound in this region -- hiking, boating, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, Destinations include Burgess Falls State Park (20 min drive), Cummins Falls State Park (40 min drive), Window Cliffs State Natural Area (12 min drive), Edgar Evans State Park (35 min drive), Cookeville and Tennessee Tech are just 30 minutes away.

The owner is on site and able to meet any additional requests quickly, even for pets. The owner has both cats and dogs, plus a laundry facility -- washer, dryer, pet washing station -- that can be made available to guests.

We hope you enjoy what this peaceful place in the wooded point above the lake has to offer. It's intimate and perfect for couples or a lone visitor who seeks solace and quiet. It's more than just a spot; it's a tranquil, fulfilling experience in the most charming of settings.

About the host

Host profile image
Having grown up abroad and back home in the US, I've relished my long journey of life in large metropolitan areas, small rural towns, in the mountains, on the seacoast, always learning and accepting how we can be so different in so many ways, yet steadfast in our appreciation for kindness.

In addition, I am a writer with a grand piano, a cello, an autoharp, an acoustic guitar, and a bodhran drum. If you are inclined to music, you are welcome to speak to me about engaging with my instruments. I have cats and dogs, who get along, watch out for one another, and sometimes annoy one another. It's a family. If you bring your pets and need something, please reach out to me.

Why they chose this property

I love this area because it is surrounded by woodlands above a lake. I suppose you could say that I bought a view that had a house on it. It also had a small cottage that I expanded and remodeled so others could spend time here.

What makes this property unique

This charming cozy cottage offers what most vacation homes offer, but on a small scale with an intimate environment for one person or two. It is tiny, convenient, and mostly quiet. I describe it as "mostly quiet" because it's nestled amid wildlife: frogs, deer, squirrels, birds, possums, wild turkeys.
