Perfect spot for a weekend getaway

Easy and efficient, they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and everything was in order. A friend lives just a few houses nearby and it was perfect

Right on the Water

We booked all three of these homes for our large family gathering. Each cottage was clean a well maintained. We enjoyed our stay and loved the private beach which was perfect for our family. The manager was very accommodating (I had lots of questions as this was our first time visiting the area). Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Beautiful place to visit

We had a great stay! The property was beautiful and my son had such a fun time just skipping rocks on the beach. The Wifi left a lot to be desired, but if you want to unplug, you probably won't care. The locals were very friendly and always willing to give advice about places to eat or things to do with our 2 year old. Lakebay is remote. If you want to be close to the city you might want to choose another local. So relaxing!!!

Very frustrating

I have never complained about any place I have ever stayed but we didn't have a great visit at all. First of all... it took us 15 minutes to get the key out of the lock box. Very frustrating. When we finally got into the apartment the overwhelming musty smell was very hard to tolerate. We then decided to open the windows to allow fresh air. My daughter then discovered there was not a screen on the very low second story window ( very scary for parents with small children) . Then my other daughter got her hand cut on the kitchen counter corner. Not a good start the first 5 minutes we were there. We finally settled in and found out we had absolutely no internet connection. Therefore we had no Netflix live tv prime ect ect. We read the manual and it says to go to the big house and ask the guest there to reset the router. No one answered when we knocked. It says to contact the manager but we were unable to do that with no phone service or Wi-Fi connection. We spent many hours outside. During the evening the lights went crazy and we had to turn them of because of the strobe lighting. I gave my daughters a bath after being outside for hours and the water smelled like rotten eggs.. Like I mentioned earlier I never complain but we truly expected a better stay . We even thought about going home but it is a 4 hour drive away.

Internet not available

I booked based on the basis that internet was available. I work remotely and had to login for work daily. Reviewing the checkin instructions, it stated that internet was shared and the router was across the street. My first inclination was to cancel. But didn’t. There was no internet at this place. We had issues connecting with the router. I went to the main house and got router info, reset the router and did all protocol problem solving. Sunday night I was in a pinch for internet as I was to login at 6am Monday morning. We considered leaving for another rental or hotel. Fortunately I have an old college roommate who was gracious enough to allow me to use his internet in Tacoma 45min away. I had to commute 1:30 every day. Leaving at 5:00am and returning about 4. I would if logged off at 1:30 daily. I didn’t get much time to enjoy the place or my family. My family enjoyed the house and the kayaks. I’ll take their word for it. Internet service was to come Wednesday but that never happened. I did tell the owner that I was checking out late Thursday and she agreed that was acceptable. Overall disappointed for our family. And extremely stressful. If the property lists internet. It should have internet. Not shared router from place 100 yards away.

Crappy apartment across the street from the water

We were pretty disappointed with the “surf shack”. It’s an apartment hodgepodged together from yard sales above a garage. If you have rented the main house and cottage for an event this place would suffice as a place for overflow and an extra place for people to sleep. The waterfront is nice and you have access, but just understand you are across the road and not on the water. The building itself was is poor condition, to say the least. To get to the water and use the leaking kayaks you need to open the neighbors gates and walk through their yard to get to it.... very awkward. Overall, Its basically a motel 6 quality unit that smells like a damp basement with no view of the water that is WAY overpriced. Oh and the wi-fi is terrible, but not to worry.... if you need the router reset they have you go knock on the neighbors door to reboot it.

Easiest part of my wedding weekend!

I booked all three locations on the property for my family and wedding party to stay at. Kathryn was extremely accommodating and always answered/followed up promptly. The property is beautiful and a great place for a family gathering. We were lucky to be there over the 4th of July so there were lots of fireworks to watch over the water. I docked a few stars only because the listing has two twin beds listed in the cottage but there is only one and they are all in the same room which is a little confusing as we thought there would be two bedrooms. The sofa beds aren't the greatest and shouldn't really be counted as beds on the site. Overall, the houses were clean and well-stocked and everyone was very comfortable.

Beautiful quite place to stay!

This was a great place to stay. We were in town for a wedding and turned it into a vacation for us. It is a home away from home for sure! Is about 30 minutes from the main town which was perfect for us. It is like having your own little forest get away. We would stay again!

Such a cute place

Every year we gather with 4 other families for the kids and the adults to get away and unplug from the world. We rented the large Wisteria home and this smaller surf shack to accommodate everyone. The surf shack was great. Two couples with small children stayed here. It is accross the street from the beach and the outdoor activities but that was perfect for the occupants. Three houses share the grassy area, the sport court, and the kayaks. When the kids weren't in the water exploring on the kayaks, looking for clams and sand dollars on the shore during low tide, they made good use of the open grass area everyday. Between soccer games, volleyball games (we brought our own net), and tag they were beat... which made us parents happy as they now outnumber us. The house is perfect. A small kitchen to hold snacks and a comfortable living area. The beds were comfy and spacious enough for suitcases and toddler stuff. We did all the major food prep in the main house so this area was just used for sleeping at night and napping kids. The kayaks were such fun for the kids and adults a like. They were on them all day. The life jackets were a little dated but they had all the sizes for all the kids. It was plenty for use. The waterfront is not sandy. It's a mix of rocks, broken seashells, dirt, and algae (depending on where the tide is at that time). Flip flops will not cut it. The kids brought their Chaco sandals and they worked perfectly. Kathryn was easy to connect with and contact when I had questions and she was super helpful. It was a great experience and we can't wait to go back.

Great little get away!

E had a great time at the surf shack! It was raining the whole time we were there or else we would have taken advantage of the kayaks. It was clean and well kept. Thank you for the beautiful beach get away! Sand dollars everywhere!

Great potential but little care toward upkeep and service.

It was nice to be near the water but the apartment was lacking and did not meet expectations. The dinett and chairs were very dated and were no longer even safe. They were bent to the point that we couldn't sit up in the chairs because the backs were in a lounge position and they leaned because the legs were bent. No dresser in the one room. Poor shower hear with low water pressure. Limited kitchen wear in the fully stocked kitchen. The dishwasher was so disgusting that we washed dishes by hand. Carpet stains, ripped window screens that allowed bugs in when the windows were open. One of the 4 kayaks had a hole in the bottom. We were expected to have our own toilet paper after flying in and driving the hour and a half to the apartment. This was our first use of Homeaway and I am nervous about using them again because of the quality of this site. Cob webs throughout when we got there. Ceiling falling in in the living and dining areas. I took pictures of the problems because the contract threatens us with loss of deposit multiple times over rediculiys things when compared to the quality of the apartment. Highly disappointed. By the time you get the insurances for breakage and pay fees, a hotel is a better option and if needed they have folks available to repair things or rooms to change to if needed. We were stuck here. Be aware that pictures may not do justice.

Some basics missing

I wish we'd paid a little more and stayed somewhere else. We stay at lots of rentals and have come to expect some basic things. The “bring your own toilet paper” was fair warning. These were missing: medium or large frying pan (they had two very small ones), placemats, tea pot, kettle, blender, measuring cups, working ice maker. When we spoke to our contact person we were told we could go out and purchase these items for the unit and we would be reimbursed. No thank you. Internet access didn't work on the first day. We were told to go ask the people renting in homes across the street to flip a switch. When we did that the other renters told us they hadn't been able to get internet all week long. (Later, when cleaning crew had been through the other units, internet did work.) There was a layer of dust throughout. Toilet leaked at the seal. Nice area and good price.

A peaceful gateway

We booked this property in the last minutes before the spring break. The manager replied emails and messages promptly. The direction and instruction are in details. They are very helpful and really want you to enjoy your stay. The house makes us feel like we know the family. We all enjoyed kayaking in the bay, or sitting on the deck, or even playing puzzle inside. Only issue is the water. You are better to have bottled water for cooking. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful gateway, this is it.

Beautiful place

This house is outstanding! My kids ask all the time when we will go back. It's perfect for large family gatherings, or for a weekend getaway. My kids especially loved taking the canoes out every morning and checking out the seals that hang out on the docks. It's very peaceful and quite and we got some much needed family time in here.

Darling Place!

My husband and I just wanted a quiet weekend away. This darling apartment was perfect. Easy access to the beach for walks and sand dollar hunting, quiet rural neighborhood, peaceful and beautiful. Kayaking on the Sound was fabulous. Only about 20 min to Gig Harbor for great restaurants, big grocery stores, shopping, etc. markets are 5 min away for any little essentials. We will be back !
