About this property

Fisherman’s Cottage by the Beach and Lighthouse

Welcome to Anglesey, mother of Wales. On the jewel of her crown - the northernmost tip - lies Llanfoi, an ancient fisherman’s cottage, just a few minutes walk from the beach at Eilian Bay.

Light the wood stove and get cosy. Relax and enjoy the warmth of the sunroom. You will feel super-welcome here.
The space
This part of the world is known for extremes of weather, and you'll feel alive! At the back door, it can be howling a gale, the wind playing piano on the slates on the roof - whilst glorious sunshine bathes the front room.

You’ll feel aware of the sea, the salt is in the air. We love waking up to the racket of the seagulls.

The beach at Eilian Bay is a short walk - a sheltered cove with a slipway, where you can swim or boat or fish - or just watch the world go by.

A group of swimmers will welcome you to join them just before high tide, particularly on sunny days, all year round! Their FB page is Nofio Porth Eilian. Cold water swimming has amazing effects.

Above the beach, take a short, breathtaking hike to the lighthouse on the tip of Linus Point. The whirlpool beneath is a tidal race from Llandudno’s Great Orme to your right - and Dublin on your left.

The little tower on the island in the distance once sheltered shipwrecked sailors. It is home to seals and seagulls. If you look carefully, you might see porpoises (very much like dolphins). The path you are standing on goes all the way around the island.

The scenery is wild, rugged and spectacular, looking back to the mountain range of Snowdonia to the south, and to the West, the torn rainbow of rocky ocre, gold and orange of Parry’s Mountain, once the largest copper mine in the world.

There are days when you can lie down on the wind and it will hold you up. On others, the Irish Sea stretches before you like a mirror, all the way to Douglas and the Isle of Man on the horizon.

Our family has lived and holidayed in these cottages for over 100 years.

Pack your bathers, sturdy boots, warm clothes and waterproofs… This is a holiday you’ll not forget. A truly special place - and it is our pleasure to share it with you.
Guest access
Guests have access to the whole house made up of lounge, kitchen, shower room, library, twin and double bedrooms downstairs, and a twin crog loft up a very steep staircase (see below).

At the back of the house is a beautiful sunroom, which is warm for much of the year.
Other things to note
The cottage is comfortable for 2 couples or a couple with children.

The stairs

A steep staircase leads up to the crog loft. it is unsuitable for young children. It is best to come down facing the stairs, the same way you went up. Please look carefully at the photos before booking.

Walks

To the pub...

The Adelphi Vaults at Amlwch Port
Lovely pie menu and an excellent choice of beers

Take the cliff/coastal path (40 mins)
Look for the footpath sign by the church gate.
!! Involves some scrambling !!
Alternatively, take the road instead (15m) especially if at all muddy.
Amlwch Port itself is fascinating, once the hub for the copper mountain.

To the beach...

Turn left out of the front door and follow the road for 5 minutes.

To the lighthouse...

From the beach, turn right and follow the lane to the lighthouse. You may walk around Linus Point and go around the castellated lighthouse to see the light itself. Look out for dolphins, seals and porpoises swimming in the tidal race beneath. Look for the shipwreck tower on Dulas Island and then across to Snowdonia and The Great Orme at Llandudno. On a clear day, you can see the Isle of Man to the North.

To the top of Eilian Mountain...
Turn uphill from the hamlet of Pengorfyssfa, you can see from the house. You can park where the road bends to the left, and on the other side, look for a footpath sign and climb the stile over the wall to begin the steep climb to the trig point at the summit. What a view!

The copper mountain - once the world's largest copper mine...
In the distance, you'll see Parys Mountain. It's a fascinating place and is now safe to walk with numerous trails and fabulous views.

The Marquis of Anglesey’s Column...
20 minutes drive from the house.
Stunning view across the Menai Straights (the perilous stretch of water that makes Anglesey an Island) and Snowdonia. Check it's open before setting out!
