About this property
Lovely 3 bedroom cottage in quiet valley, organic gardens, private fenced pool
Lovely 3 bedroom holiday home (sleeps 6) in a remote valley of a mountainous area, surrounded by cultivated farmland and Mediterranean forest. All modern conveniences and décor is warm and cheerful.
Private fenced off pool.
Bedroom 1 and 2 with double beds (1,40x2.00). Third bedroom with twin beds (90x2.00). Two complete bathrooms, one en-suite with shower, the other with bath tub. Open plan kitchen, dining, living room. Modern and fully equipped.
Washing machine (placed in bathroom).
HD Television with all the Spanish channels up to date (some can be set to bilingual audio) and access to Netflix and YouTube.
Shelves full of books and guides (in Spanish, Dutch, English and French). Original prints, photos and paintings on the walls give the place a personal touch.
The Spanish/Dutch owners also live in the valley and are as self-sufficient as possible, with an organic vegetable garden, their own water well, and solar panels (with back-up of the main grid). All their surrounding land and the (low-maintenance) gardens are landscaped and maintained naturally, without the use of pesticides, and taking into account the challenging mountain climate (hot, dry summers and cold winters, as well as a significant day-night temperature difference).
They offer their holiday home to nature lovers, families, bird spotters, hikers, peace seeking couples and anyone who looks for a relaxed place to spend their holidays.
Access to the house is through paved country roads (with exception some 200 meters in the middle). At the end however there is a sharp curve and steep descending slope, which is accessible to any type of car though.
Ronda, just 8 km away, is one of the most beautiful cities of Andalusia, steeped in history. It stands on a towering plateau in the mountains of the province of Malaga. The plateau is split in two by a 90 meters deep gap, 'El Tajo', and is the natural separation between the old and the new Ronda. This gap is spanned by a stone bridge, Puente Nuevo, and offers breath-taking views.
The shopping area of Ronda, where some of the traditional shops still maintain, is located in the new part of town.
However, the most enchanting walks can be found in the old town where the Moorish and Roman atmosphere can be inhaled in every street corner.
Nearby village of Arriate provides with banks, small supermarkets and other stores that you need on a daily basis. This charming village is also known for its cheap & cheerful tapas bars and also has a few high quality restaurants.
Ronda lies very central to all the cities that are worth visiting and can easily be travelled in one day, such as Cordoba (Mezquita), Granada (Alhambra-book well in advance!), Seville (Giralda and Reales Alcazares), Malaga (Picasso Museum) and Gibraltar and Marbella/Costa del Sol.

About the host
Hosted by Lies Wajer

Francisco was born and raised in Ronda. He knows the country very well and is a passionate lover of nature and organic farmer. Lies is Dutch and came from Amsterdam to live in Andalusia in 1995.
Casa Vallecillo is a lovely light house that immediately feels good. Because of the cheerful colours, the homely furnishings, the modern facilities and the secluded location. The house has three bedrooms, a living room with open kitchen and two spacious bathrooms.
The house is located in a small valley between Ronda and Arriate, in the Serrania de Ronda. Access to the house is via a partly paved country road. At the end of the country road there is a sharp U-turn and steep descent that can feel slightly overwhelming for some not used to driving in the mountains, but it is accessible for any type of car.
There is a covered terrace in front of the house and a small simple garden, with some sun loungers. The 8 x 4 meter swimming pool is big enough to swim a few laps and is also safely fenced.
NEW: there is now air conditioning in all bedrooms and in the living room, for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. There is also a wood stove for extra atmospheric heating.
There is free WiFi, a well-stocked bookcase, an HD television, with access to your own Netflix and YouTube account. All kinds of facilities for small children such as toys, a cot and high chair.
Solar energy with backup from the electricity grid.
This house is ideal for nature lovers, families, birdwatchers, walkers and anyone looking for a relaxing place to spend their holidays. And to make communication a lot easier Francis speaks English while Lies fluent Dutch, Spanish and English speaking, can express herself reasonably well in French and understands German and Portuguese (but speaks less fluently!)

Why they chose this property
When they came to live in the valley in 1999, it was a bare plot of land only used for breeding goats. But they immediately recognized its potential and fell in love with the peaceful tranquility that the valley breathes.
While trying to make a living and raising their son, over the years and step by step, they have tried to develop the place to be a perfect holiday spot for everyone from all over the world who looks for comfortable holidays.
We have been renting out our house since 2002, but in the years between 2020 and 2024 there were several reasons why we could not let it. First because we lived in it ourselves for 8 months during a major renovation of our own house. Immediately after that, the COVID-19 period started and we had severe lockdowns in Spain. When travelling finally started to pick up again, major works were started in our area with the construction of a sewage treatment plant. As much as the noise pollution caused us (rental) problems, we are extremely happy that after more than two years we have that behind us and now, as a big bonus, we have a clean river running along our land. Guests who have visited us in the past may remember that the river caused a stench nuisance in the summers. Fortunately, that is now completely behind us!
To relax after those hectic periods, the past year we've let the house to a Dutch-Spanish family for a year last. They have now bought their own house in the area, so we are ready again to open up our guesthouse and are looking forward to receiving guests from all over the world!

What makes this property unique
The valley has a peaceful and a very rural feel. You are 'off the world', but within walking distance from civilization.
The fascinating city of Ronda is centrally located for trips to Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz, Malaga and the Costa del Sol. The house is far from the daily hustle and bustle, but within walking distance (25 minutes) of the nearby village of Arriate. There you will find banks, ATMs, small supermarkets, restaurants, terraces, tapas bars and everything a holidaymaker needs.
Ronda is only 8 kilometers away, but other Andalusian cities such as Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Marbella and Malaga are also within a day's drive. From Malaga airport it is about a 90-minute drive to the holiday home.
Summers know long warm days and cool nights. And in winter you breathe the fresh clean mountain air of Ronda.
A big plus for families with small children as the pool is securely fenced. Moreover, it is home to small children prepared with toys, books, cot and high chair.
