The Space
Welcome to your lakefront retreat on Lake Lariat in the Solomons/Lusby area of Maryland. Perched on a wooded peninsula, the home offers sweeping water views, direct lake access, and a beautifully designed space ideal for relaxation in all seasons.

The lofted master suite features skylights and serene lake views, while three additional bedrooms offer comfortable space for families or groups.
For fall and winter stays, enjoy the home’s newest highlight: a private indoor infrared sauna, perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking, fossil hunting, or exploring Solomons.

About the host
Hosted by Andrew Lih
We designed our lake home to be a place of calm, creativity, and connection for those in the Washington, D.C., and DMV area. Whether you’re here to paddle, write, birdwatch, or breathe, we’re honored to host your stay in this midcentury modern escape. We're longtime travelers and detail-oriented hosts who understand what makes a stay feel special.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this part of Southern Maryland because it offers something rare—an undiscovered sense of space and light, nestled between forest, lake, and bay. While much of Maryland’s coastline is well-known and busy, Chesapeake Ranch and Lake Lariat feel like a hidden retreat, offering serenity and natural beauty without being remote or hard to reach.
This area is perfect for nature lovers and explorers. Flag Ponds Nature Park and Calvert Cliffs State Park are just minutes away, where you can hike, spot wildlife, and even hunt for ancient shark teeth along the shoreline. The nearby Chesapeake Bay brings all the staples we love—fresh crabs, oysters, waterfront dining, and a laid-back coastal vibe that feels a world away from city life.
But it's not just nature. There’s a surprising amount of art, history, and culture here, too. We love the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center and its engaging exhibits, creative energy, and amazing winter holiday light display. The Calvert Marine Museum (with its resident river otters) bring the region’s maritime heritage to life. From historic lighthouses to seasonal festivals and farmers' markets, the community has a vibrancy that’s easy to connect with.
Ultimately, we chose this neighborhood because it has the perfect blend of peacefulness, personality, and place. It feels special without being exclusive, grounded yet full of discovery, and we hope our guests enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this property unique
What makes our home special is its rare sense of privacy, light, and connection to nature—all within a beautifully designed space. Perched on a wooded peninsula, the home feels worlds away, with no neighbors in sight and only the trees and lake as your companions. It offers panoramic views of a serene lake, the sound of birdsong, and a canopy of trees just outside the windows.
The architecture details combine modern and nature – a tall, light-filled A-frame with soaring ceilings and a wall of glass that brings the outdoors in. The interior seamlessly blends mid-century modern style with comfort, featuring thoughtfully curated Eames furniture, bright skylights, and inviting spaces to gather, rest, or reflect. Whether you’re enjoying a meal on the upper deck or lounging in the lower level, every corner of the home invites you to slow down and enjoy the setting.
And yet, despite its quiet, secluded feel, the home is surprisingly convenient. You’re just 5 minutes from local grocery stores, restaurants, essentials, and only 15 minutes from Chesapeake Bay beaches, nature trails, and cultural gems like the Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Calvert Marine Museum. It’s the perfect balance of retreat and accessibility—close enough for spontaneity, far enough for stillness.
With kayaks, a canoe, life jackets, binoculars for birdwatching, and a guide to local attractions, you can spend your days paddling, exploring, or discovering nearby parks and cultural spots—then come back to a home that’s private, peaceful, and surrounded by stars at night.
It’s a place to reconnect, reflect, and make lasting memories.
