About this property

The Lodge at Punta Rica – Private Six-Suite Lodge for up to 12

Summary:

Barefoot luxury for your whole group: six suites for up to 12 guests on a hilltop on Isla Bastimentos, about 10 minutes by boat from Bocas Town. The pool, bar, dining room and Grand Room are private to your group, breakfast is cooked to order, our chef cooks dinner six nights a week, and we pick you up by boat. Off-grid on solar power and rainwater, with a private dock, beach access, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear. Families with children are welcome on whole-lodge stays.

The Space:

Take the whole lodge and it is yours: six suites, the pool, the bar, the dining room and the Grand Room, with our chef and bartender cooking and pouring for your group. It works beautifully for milestone birthdays, family reunions, friend trips and small retreats, and children are welcome on whole-lodge stays.

We pick you up by boat in Bocas Town and carry your bags up from our private dock. Breakfast is cooked to order every morning, there is a poolside lunch menu during the day, and our chef cooks a three-course dinner six nights a week. The lodge runs on solar power and rainwater, there are no TVs, and evenings are for the deck, the pool and long dinners at one table.

When you want to go out, Old Bank is about 3 minutes away by water taxi and Bocas Town about 10 minutes, with beaches, snorkeling, island-hopping, jungle hikes and restaurants all close by.

----------

The space includes:

- Six suites: four King suites (Dolphin, Parrot, Hummingbird, Red Frog), each with a living area, and two Queen suites (Toucan, Butterfly). Every suite has a private bathroom with hot water, shampoo, conditioner and body soap, a powerful ceiling fan and a dedicated workspace.

- Waterfront: private dock, beach access, a 32-foot cocktail pool and a sun deck with chairs and umbrellas.

- Shared spaces, private to your group: the Great Room, the dining room, the staffed bar, the expansive deck and the garden, with views over the water. Great for yoga and bird watching.

- Complimentary gear: kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, snorkel gear and yoga mats.

----------

Food and drink:

Breakfast is cooked to order and included with every night, with coffee and tea. A light lunch and appetizer menu runs during the day ($7-$10), and a three-course dinner is $40 per person. The bar serves cocktails ($7), beer ($2) and wine ($7). Food and drinks go on one bill at checkout. Prices may change; ask us for the current menu.

Guest Access:

Your group has the whole lodge: all six suites, the pool and sun deck, the Great Room, the dining room, the bar, the covered patio, the garden and the private dock. Only the staff quarters and the chef's kitchen are off limits. Decking connects the suites to the common areas, and there are many stairs on the hillside.

The Neighborhood:

The lodge sits on a hilltop on Isla Bastimentos, above our private dock. The village of Old Bank is about 3 minutes away by water taxi, with local restaurants and bars. Wizard Beach is about a 30-minute hike, Red Frog Beach is about 10 minutes by water taxi, and Isla Colon (Bocas Town), Isla Solarte and Isla Carenero are all within about 10-15 minutes by boat.

Getting Around:

Water taxis are how everyone gets around the archipelago. Expect about $3-5 per person per trip, more after dark; confirm the fare before you board. We arrange your pickup and drop-off in Bocas Town, and we can recommend trusted captains for days out. On Isla Colon you can rent bikes and ATVs.

Other Things to Note:

Free boat pickup and drop-off: we meet you in Bocas Town at our standard pickup point, behind Virginia's House (the yellow house to the left of the police station), and bring you to our dock. Please confirm your arrival 24 hours before check-in. Our last boat from Bocas Town leaves at 5:30 PM, so you can check in before 6 PM; later arrivals can come by water taxi with our help. Transfers from the airport to the dock are arranged by guests.

The lodge is off-grid, with solar power, rainwater and a septic system, so please go easy on water and power. There are no TVs; Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

Good to know for groups: the hillside has many stairs and some decks without full railings, the pool is not fenced, and the dock has deep water, so please watch children and non-swimmers. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM, smoking is outdoors only, and events are welcome only when planned with us in advance. One dog per booking is welcome at no extra charge.

Interaction with Guests:

Our chef, bartender and staff are on site to cook, pour and look after the lodge, and Dan and Brian, your hosts, help you plan boat transfers, tours, dinners and anything special for your group. We are always a message away, and we give your group its space.

We had a wonderful stay at the lodge. The property is beautiful, the food was delicious, and Dan and Brian were warm and attentive hosts. We loved the pool, the views, and the excursions they helped us arrange. It was a great family trip and we felt very well cared for.

We had an absolutely amazing trip, even with less than perfect weather. The house felt like home for a week. Great hosts, great staff, great food. A comfortable place in the jungle, away from it all. We were a lively group of eight, ranging in age from 16 to older than that, and everyone loved it. Dan (the chef) accommodated vegan and picky eaters and even made a fantastic dessert to celebrate a birthday. One of those trips that is hard to describe because it was an experience and a feeling. Rained some days but we still managed some fun journeys out, and celebrated Thanksgiving in a private lodge in the jungle. The weather doesn't matter when the place and the people are right. Can't get better than that.
