Charming Cottage w/pool- in the highly desired settlement
A Hope Town Settlement Icon
Nestled in the historical settlement, Clifford Sawyer House is the result of construction that began in 1868. This was the home of Elizabeth Sawyer, the granddaughter of Wayannie Malone. Hope Town was founded in 1785 by Wayannie – a widow from Charleston, who fled the United States with her four children for safe refuge from the Revolutionary war. Today, the Clifford Sawyer House is considered to be one of the very first homes built in Hope Town and stands as a testament to an age and style gone by. Picket fences, porches, and clapboard accents make it a prime example of quaint and colonial architecture. The house has been completely renovated in 2021, but still maintains much of its charm and decades of history.
This adorable vintage cottage is designed with high-end furniture and features throughout. Great efforts have been made to provide modern conveniences while respecting the original character and charm. Guests will love the dipping pool nestled in the lush backyard setting. The home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the settlement’s north side. Just a short 1-2 blocks stroll from the beach, harbour, shopping, restaurant, bike rentals, and incredible views of the landmark lighthouse.
The Property includes 4 total bedrooms and 3 baths in the following layout:
King-size bed in the main bedroom, Queen-size bedroom in second bedroom, and 3 full-sized built-in beds in the loft. The separate studio includes an additional Queen-size bed, bathroom, and kitchenette.
The home features central HVAC, smart TVs in each room, Wi-Fi, and an up-to-date kitchen. Ship-lap walls, custom cabinetry, and large showers enhance the cottage feel. There are also 3 porches to enjoy the views of the manicured yard and park.
Outside the home, guests will love the beautiful dipping pool, which is surrounded by a lush garden and the ocean waves in surround sound. The yard is fully fenced, giving you a sense of seclusion and privacy and includes a grill for cooking out. There is a fully enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water, great for rinsing off after a day at the beach. The home is located across the street from Taylor Park, which is a bonus for kids. Enjoy a basketball court as well as two pickleball courts with nets and paddles, just across the street!

What a dream house in the settlement. Couldn’t have chosen a better location for our Hope Town vacation - and the house itself was a designer dream. Loved all the details, and everything we needed was there. 10/10.
We had a wonderful vacation! The house is charming with a great kitchen. Our favorite spot was the side patio. The beds were comfortable- and the house had many amenities. We loved the location- right in the center of Hopetown. The house is a 1/2 block from dock, pickleball, beach and golf cart parking. This was our second stay at the Clifford Sawyer House- we are hoping for a third visit in 2027!
This is our second time staying at the Clifford Sawyer house and we will be back! We added 6 more people this time (5 adults, 5 kids total) and it worked perfect for us. The kids loved the loft and pool and being next to the basketball courts was great for them. Will definitely be back soon!!
We enjoyed our stay at the Clifford Sawyer House. The house was exceptionally clean, and had all the necessities (linens, beach towels, soaps etc.) to enjoy our stay. The kids enjoyed the upstairs bedroom and the downstairs rooms were very cozy and comfy. The pool was a great perk for the evenings when coming back to the house to freshen up before dinner. The location of the lower public dock was great also. I would recommend renting your golf cart from the Canvas Shop or a provider who can provide you a permit to allow access into the settlement. We will definitely be back for another stay.
We had the absolute best stay! The house is adorable and in such a great location. Walking distance to the ferry, and Nick was so responsive for any questions we had!
