About this property
Our Little Schoolhouse on Elm
WELCOME HOME to Our Little Schoolhouse on Elm - a lovingly and thoughtfully revitalized, one-room limestone schoolhouse, originally constructed in 1879 and newly converted into a 2bd/2bath super-cottage with childrens play loft, full kitchen, and laundry! Nestled discreetly right off blacktop just 15 minutes from the heart of Manhattan and the Flint Hills, this one of a kind stay marries timeless historic charm + character with thoughtful, contemporary updates.
We look forward to hosting you!
THE SPACE
Step back in time and enjoy reading stories of class mates that attended this historic landmark, write on the same chalkboard they wrote on, and even see early 1900s photos of some of the first classes to attend on our schoolhouse history gallery wall!
What you’ll love:
* Light-Academia, cottage inspired decor
* Quiet location, yet convenient (15 mins from Manhattan, 7 mins from Wamego, 35 mins from Topeka)
* Entertainment - carpet ball table, vintage gramophone (RECORDS!), wood stove/fireplace, SO many books, vintage games (like Wahoo!), and 2 smart TV's
* RV hookups & dump station on site
* Zero-entry experience; including curbless shower, concrete ramp to entrance and everything except 1 bedroom+1 bathroom on the main level.
Prepare your meals in the fully stocked kitchen, complete with high-end appliances and all the essentials - or take a 15 minute drive to enjoy the best restaurants Manhattan has to offer (local recommendations and your hosts' favorite dishes sent in electronic guest book upon booking) . Enjoy your morning ritual at the coffee/tea bar with whole bean, fresh roasted coffee from your local roastery, and wind down in the cozy swinging hammock chair with a book or a film. Families are welcome — kids (or kids at heart) will love the whimsical play loft tucked above the main bedroom fully stocked with some of the toys we played with as kids (remember Tinkertoys?)
Whether you're seeking a peaceful creative retreat, a romantic weekend, or a unique family getaway, this schoolhouse offers a restorative and inspiring experience just outside the Manhattan/Wamego city buzz.
