About this property
Perfect Retreat in Old Aljezur
Casa Laurinda is a lovely house in Aljezur historical area, perfect for travelling couples or for a family. Laurinda has two bedrooms and a generous living room, with an amazing view over the Varzea agricultural fields and "new" Aljezur and the Monchique mountain range on the horizon. It has an equipped kitchen, and a hidromassage shower was added for the best back-from-the-beach/walk experience.
The house is faced east and very bright in the mornings, inviting you to prolong your breakfast. The neighbourhood is quiet and most of the people are locals, but you will surely find some settled-in foreigners and some wandering travellers. By lunchtime, the whole street goes quiet as locals return home for lunch, so you may feel like a "sesta" after your meal.
Laurinda's guests walk to the municipal market (a 5-minute downhill stroll) for the best local fresh fish and produce, or just to enjoy the atmosphere. On their way through the narrow old streets they pass the municipal museum, the original village church, and they cross the road that leads to the old moorish castle. To walk up to the castle, you can also take the narrow footpaths starting behind the house and winding between the neighbours´ backyards.
In the opposite direction, the street takes you to the road leading along the creek to Amoreira beach, one of the most beautiful in the region, with a small river running all the way to the ocean, a sandy beach with dunes and a rocky beach area with natural pools packed with ocean life.
For a short stay, Laurinda's guests can walk from the house to most of the interest points in the small town of Aljezur. The area has grown very popular with hikers, thanks to the Vicentina Route and the famous fishermen trail, wich you can join easily from Aljezur. If you are not a hiker, you can cycle down to Amoreira beach, but there's much to explore in the region, so we would recommend driving. Aljezur village was an ancient crossing for commercial routes and gives you access to as far as the city of Lagos, in the South, the SW tip of Europe, Sagres, or the Alentejo towns of Zambujeira and Odemira in close to 30 min driving.
We can always find a parking spot just in front of the house, but the old streets are narrow and manouvering may be tricky for an unexperienced driver.
