The Space:
Escape to this serene, Scandinavian-inspired retreat tucked into a quiet hillside in the Hudson Valley and set on 16 acres with sweeping views of the Catskills, wildflower meadows, and forest.
On the main level is bright and expansive, open-concept living and dining area. A plush white sectional and contemporary fireplace invite cozy gatherings, while floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding landscape like living artwork. A natural wood dining table, paired with woven-seat chairs, sets the stage for slow mornings and lingering dinners. Tucked just beyond the dining area, a staircase leads to a charming loft with a queen bed—perfect for quiet reading or an afternoon nap. The adjacent chef's kitchen presents sleek concrete countertops, creamy white cabinetry, and a breakfast island ideal for morning coffee or casual meals. Oversized glass doors and windows flood the space with natural light creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
The master bedroom, located on the upper level, features a king size bed and an en suite spa-like bathroom with dual sinks, a walk-in shower and separate soaking tub with stunning views of the Catskill Mountains. Also on the upper level are two guest bedrooms that share a bathroom with a tub/shower combo. One bedroom offers a queen size bed while the other includes a twin bed with trundle - perfect for kids. On the lower level, there are two additional guest bedrooms, each with a king size bed that shares a bathroom with a walk-in shower. These rooms can be converted into a two-bedroom guest suite thanks to a pocket door that provides additional privacy.
Enjoy a refreshing rinse in the outdoor shower after a day of exploring, gather around the firepit under the stars, or take in the fresh air from the patio.
Perfect for remote work or a weekend escape, Taghkanic House is a light filled passive home offering a serene experience immersed in nature in the heart of the Hudson Valley.
The Neighborhood:
Taghkanic House is perfectly situated for enjoying the best of the Hudson Valley. Start your weekend with provisions from Otto’s Market, a beloved local grocer. For something sippable, head to Tousey Winery or Hudson Valley Distillers for locally crafted wines and spirits.
If you’re in the mood for art, don’t miss the rotating exhibits at Alexander Gray Associates. Nature lovers will find peace and inspiration strolling through Poet’s Walk Park or exploring the historic grounds at Clermont State Historic Site.
For hands-on fun, pick your own seasonal fruit at Rose Hill Farm or Greig Farm, both just a short drive away. Aviation buffs—and kids of all ages—will love the vintage planes and weekend airshows at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.
Recharge with a wellness class or workshop at the Omega Institute, or enjoy some low-key shopping at The Corner Counter, Hudson Valley Vintage, and Hammertown Barn, all offering unique local finds.
Whether you're looking to unwind or explore, this corner of Columbia County offers the perfect blend of charm, culture, and countryside.
Getting Around:
Taghkanic House is just 2 hours from New York City. A car is essential for getting there and exploring the area. The main access routes are the Taconic State Pkwy, Sprain Brook Pkwy S and I-87 S. We strongly recommend a 4x4 or a car with four-wheel drive, especially in winter, to handle snow and gravel roads.
Other Things to Note:
Guests do not have access to the indoor mechanical room.
