Ely Log Cabin - Off Grid+Solar+WiFi - 40 acres to roam
Reset and restore at this cozy log cabin, set on 40 acres of idyllic northern Minnesota landscape. Though connected through Starlink Internet, you are otherwise transported back in time, when things were simpler, and less chaotic. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, an off grid experience, or simply solitude - The Ely Log Cabin is sure to deliver an exceptional, and memorable experience. You won't want to leave this unique getaway that's just a 15 minute drive to the heart of Ely!
Please understand this is an off-grid property, and runs off of solar and propane powered generator - therefore mindful use of things that require electricity - lights, hot water showers, and water in general all require a lot of power to operate. We ask that no hair dryers or crock pots be used as they are massive drains on the energy supply.
The cabin has two queen beds in the loft, and one pull out queen sleeper sofa on the main level. The stairs to the loft are very steep, and not recommended for young children, or guests with mobility/strength limitations. There are not any blinds/room darkening shades in the loft, so if you are light sensitive in the morning, please ensure you pack an eye mask.
The cabin has a cooktop with two propane burners - there is not an oven. So, pack food that you can cook on a stove top or grill! There is just a small mini fridge at the property, as well as a decent sized cooler - so you may want to pack a few bags of ice for the cooler/additional cooler(s) if you plan to bring a lot of food and/or are staying for a long duration. The mini fridge does have a tiny freezer area that can fit up to 3 pints of ice cream.
During times of limited sunshine the generator will need to power the cabin, though it is outside, you can definitely hear it inside of the cabin. Should you stay at the cabin during a snowstorm, it is advised that you go out to the solar panels and use the snow rakes to remove snow, so the panels can draw sunlight.
Lastly, we encourage guests to come with realistic expectations and be ready to enjoy the wilderness - it's a cabin in the woods!

Great little piece of perfection for a wonderful off grid experience. Every item/amenity has been so thoughtfully added and placed. When I think of an ideal log cabin - this is it!
This cozy log cabin is the perfect place for a quiet getaway in the North Woods. The cabin is well maintained and the views are gorgeous. Many windows made it perfect to see the sunset and sunrise. Excellent communication from the host. I had some questions leading up to my stay and some questions when I arrived and he responded promptly every time. I hope to visit again!
The cabin was so cozy and comfortable! David did such an amazing job hosting us! He went beyond expectations making sure everything was just right. We didn’t want to leave! There ended up being a blizzard the last night we stayed but the snow plower was there in the morning to plow and shovel us out. So helpful and considerate! It was a cool experience being aware of how much electricity we use, and not too hard, so we can’t wait to implement this in our daily lives back home. The fireplace kept us nice and warm. There was a lot to do outside on the property and inside, too! It was a dream come true and very affordable! We cannot wait to come back soon!
My husband and stayed here following our North Shore wedding. It was a quiet, blissful experience. We loved the views, the quaint cabin decor and the plethora of outdoor opportunities. If you’re looking to shut the world out for a few days of solace, this is the place for you. It was the most serene weekend and we hope to come back during the winter season.
The property was inviting and well-kept. The host’s information was helpful and illuminating—it was exciting to see how our actions made an impact on power and water usage. Beds were comfortable and there were ample pillows and blankets to accommodate us on chilly nights. The trails on the property were easy to follow and well signed to keep hikers safe. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be able to stay again.

Our stay at Ely Log Cabin exceeded all expectations. This is truly a place you want to come back to.
The cabin is located in a stunningly beautiful and peaceful setting, surrounded by forest and nature, offering complete privacy and tranquility. At the same time, the cabin is fully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. It was very cozy, warm, and thoughtfully designed—especially perfect for winter. The fireplace creates an amazing atmosphere and easily heats the entire cabin.
We would especially like to highlight the hosts’ care and attention to detail. You can truly feel that the cabin was created with love: everything is clean, well-organized, and guest-focused. We stayed as a family, and it was important for us to feel comfortable with a child—this place delivered 100%.
Ely Log Cabin is not just a place to sleep; it is a full experience—peace, relaxation, nature, and a true “home away from home.” We left already talking about coming back, possibly in the summer.
Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality. We highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a cozy, quiet, and rejuvenating getaway.
The last trip wasn't long enough, so I had to come back for a little more time at the Ely Log Cabin. It was an excellent opportunity to get away and relax. Thank you!
This space is a cozy, peaceful dream. It had all the amenities of home while being in the "middle of nowhere". I needed a comfortable retreat and "base camp" for hiking after a rough couple months, and the Ely Cabin and David, delivered in spades. Saw the most breath taking northern lights 2 nights in a row, and then the stars and milky way the next. I'll for sure returning soon. For the comfort, character and peace.
