Darling Cottage!

The Shanty is beautifully decorated, convenient, and had all the amenities we needed for wonderful stay in Hermann. We were so impressed with the cleanliness of the place. One of the cleanest rentals we have ever stayed in!

Fun cottage

Great Location

We had a great time and would stay again. Everything was comfortable and cute. One suggestion, the curtains in the bathroom are gray sheer, and surely see thru at night, maybe not the best for a shower area? Otherwise will stay again and highly recommend.

Hi thanks. We take all suggestions into consideration. There is lots of privacy in the bath, and there are full trees outside the window. We strive to constantly improve. The window is in the sink area, not the shower, just to be clear to future guests. Tabatha we would be happy to have you again.

Perfect Girls’ Getaway

Our Pandemic Getaway

The "Shanty" was everything my wife and I needed in order to help relax for a couple days from the hectic pace of life. From the kitchen/amenities to the outdoor firepit/patio area it was a great setup to spend quality time and social distance from things. The location in town was well suited for many neighborhood walks and jaunts to wineries/restaurants. The cleanliness of the place really put it over the top!

Wine and Dine

We came to Hermann to explore the town and Missouri wineries and The Shanty on 5th was the perfect place for us! It was conveniently situated for experiencing Hermann and all it has to offer. The Shanty is well-appointed and the kitchen well stocked with dishes, cutlery, knives (sharp!!!), cookware, and spices so we could cook breakfasts and dinners as desired. We especially appreciated plenty of towels and amenities in the bathroom and the comfy bed. Becky made check-in simple and checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed and was available via text to make sure checkout went smoothly. We would definitely stay here again.

Loved the Shanty on 5th.

Spent 3 nights over Labor Day weekend at the Shanty. The house is so cute, was very clean, and was perfect for a couple. The owner has thought of every detail possible to make for a perfect stay at the Shanty. We were also provided with so much information for things to do around Hermann, from times wineries were open and what bands were playing when, to restaurant suggestions, etc. Becky the owner was so helpful with anything we needed. The Shanty is within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants located in downtown Hermann. Was also walkable to several of the wineries located right in Hermann. For the wineries too far to walk, the Trolley will pick up right at the front door of the Shanty - just perfect. We will definately stay at the Shanty again.

Mommy time-out

My best friend and I wanted to get out of town for a little R and R! We fell n love with this house on the listing. When we arrived it was everything we had hoped for and more! The fun as bright decor, the high end mattresses and luxurious linens were enough to help us sleep well away from home and even catch some extra zzzzz’s. The bathroom is totally made for gal pals to be able to get ready together and still have privacy! The check in process was flawless! We are been received text messages with events and recommendations for in town food, drinks and shopping! The location was perfect! A quick stroll and we were down in the heart of Hermann! Easy to catch a quick Uber (Debbie was so great) or snag the trolley! We felt close to it all, but far enough that a night cap on the back patio was quiet and relaxing. We will definitely be back!!! (And booking The Shed on this property as well!)

Nice accomodations, but lacks privacy

The home well decorated and is situated on a corner and close enough to walk to many locations, which is nice. Unfortunately no window on the property has anything more than a sheer curtain for privacy, no blinds or opaque curtains even in the bathroom and bedroom. At all hours of the evening there are people walking on the sidewalk which is within ten feet or less from both the bedroom and bathroom. At night, even with sheer curtains, anyone could see inside. The shower area of the bathroom has no light. To see anything at night in the shower we had to shower with the curtain open. When you step out of the shower there is a window with a sheer curtain and no blinds. We found lipstick on one cup (guests wash the dishes themselves and there is no dishwasher). Otherwise the property seemed clean.

Christine. I’m happy to address everything that you’ve mentioned here. First of all our house is exceptionally clean. If somebody left lipstick on the glass that is a simple oversight. Of course guests wash their own dishes The house is 180 years old of course we don’t have a dishwasher and when people are there just for a couple of days there’s really no need most people don’t even cook there. In regards to the light in the shower area unfortunately because of the age of the situation of the home we have three other lights in the bathroom but we do not have it’s just a way to put it in anywhere else. We have hundreds and hundreds of positive reviews and we’ve had zero complaints about any of these things. Possibly this has something to do with the fact that you’re upset that I kept your security deposit because you and your guests left such a mess in my home two extra hours just to get it back in shape causing our next guest to get in late. Also, your hair conditioner stained my brand new shower without repair now I will be sending you the bill for $1200. While I can appreciate that you’re not happy about $150 deposit being kept House rules are very clear and that’s what the deposit is for. If you wanted to ensure having it returned then you might’ve done a better job of making sure that you all took care of things in a respectful way. I can honestly say you’re one of the only two people that I’ve ever left the property in this condition. And no one has ever caused permanent damage except for one other group of girls who destroyed my floor with a bottle of liquor they broke as well as two chairs. They weren’t very happy either when they left a review. I had chosen to take the highroad and give you A neutral review. For anyone reading this I can see that we have hundreds of five star reviews. For anyone wanting to understand the situation I can tell them that you left every single towel in the home stained all of the beds were soaking wet and stained and my shower now needs a $1200 repair. Additionally as of 2023- We have full curtains in the bath as we had before but much nicer, we added a light right outside shower, and, yes we have sheers in the living room and bedroom, but they are full and plentiful. We continue to get glowing reviews from fabulous people!!

We are frequent visitors to Hermann and this location did not disappoint. The decor was so cute and inviting, the kitchen was fully stocked with all you will need. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best for enjoying the outside area but it’s perfect for a couple or a group. You can get to downtown Hermann in just a short walk. Next time we will try to rent the property behind the house and invite some friends. Becky was very friendly and quick to respond with any questions we had.

This home was perfect. We loved the decorations. It was very homey and the back patio was a great place to relax. The host did a great job with communication. It was so close to everything that we walked to all the dining and shops. We would absolutely stay here again.

Excellent from start to finish

First, Becky was awesome; enough cannot be said about her responsiveness and work to make sure our trip was memorable. The house was very comfortable, well-kept, and had almost anything you could ask for in linens, appliances, and supplies. The location was perfect - most everything was in walking distance of the house (we did not drive once the entire weekend). All in all, would absolutely recommend.

The cutest house in town!

Ok it's the only house I've stayed in at Hermann but I bet it is the cutest! The decor is so cute and girly inside plus a huge bathroom and we really appreciated having so many mirrors! Perfect location, we walked everywhere (or rode the trolley). The firepit was a nice relaxing place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the night.

Anniversary Get away

Becky made the rental process and stay a complete dream. We also purchased the sweetheart package from her. And found the prettiest dozen roses when we got there. She kept us updated on live music and places to go. The house itself was way better than I expected and the pictures don’t do it justice. The neighborhood is quiet and well lit. And you are a short walk from downtown. Well worth the stay. We honestly can’t wait to go back.

I fell in love with my guests and the process...so, having wanted to own a guest house for 4 years before that, I decided to expand and create something special! Something a little fun and unique. It spoke to me. I had been seeking a guest home in another area, on another 5th St, that looked almost the same...and it just wasn't working out...then, one morning....there was The Shanty! Now, I am in love with the town and the people!
