A-Frame of Mind in the Smoky's, a mountain retreat.

A-Frame of Mind is a quiet a-frame that sits at 3000 sqft altitude on the side of the mountain off of Dick's creek. Even though it is not directly on the creek, you can see and hear it from the the home. The home boasts of sleeping space withe 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Master BD is an open air loft and has a king sized bed. The other 2 bedrooms are on the main level. The 2nd bedroom has a queen, and third bedroom has a daybed and twin sleeper. Plenty of common space either downstairs or up in the master loft that can fit twin air mattress. Even though it feels isolated, we are only 3 miles from Great Smoky Exspressway. We are only 15-20 minutes to Cherokee and Sylva, Blue Ridge Parkway and Bryson City. We are 30 minutes to Waynesville and Lake Junaluska. Asheville and the Highlands/Cashiers area are only 55 minutes. Entrance to the Smoky Mountains is just on the other side of Cherokee. Even though we are only 3 miles from the major hyw, the road is combination of 2 lane and single lane gravel road that follows dick’s creek up to the home. The gravel lane is 1.5 miles to the home. During the heavy rains in summer the road may have ruts. In the winter when there is heavy snow or ice parts of the road may be impassable unless you have a AWD. However, I do not have AWD and have not had issues accessing the home. Dicks creek is a DOT state maintained road and will be cleared as full time residents live in this area. It is a very scenic drive making you feel the seclusion. There are other rental home in the area, but this home sits perched above on the side of mountain adding to the seclusion. The driveway is long enough to fit 3 vehicles and pulls right up to the home, so very easily accessible. A-Frame of Mind is in rural location and the home has satellite internet access. The maximum data plan has been provided, however it is only intended for mail and social media. It is not intended for streaming TV or movies.
PLEASE READ: I currently have a hot tub on the property for use by all my guests. Hot tubs can be difficult and expensive to maintain in the more secluded mountain areas. I will continue to maintain it, and most of the time have zero issue, please ask questions if you need. Please do not unplug.

We had a fantastic stay here! Loved that we could bring our dog on this trip. We were very comfy and enjoyed the great views. Especially loved how well supplied the kitchen was - so easy to cook our meals with the utensils, dishes, and seasonings provided.

My family really enjoyed the house, plenty of room and well stocked. We were visiting our daughter at WCU, so we went up and down the mountain quite a bit. WCU is 25 minutes. I would highly recommend this place to folks planning to stay on site more then we did. That being said the house is very close to a lot of cool places. Sylva is very close by. A hike at Juney Whank Falls is less than 25 minutes away - easy worthwhile hike to see 3 waterfalls. Tsoli trails are about 35 minutes - great MTB destination. Haywood Smokehouse in Dillsboro is legit.

Great Stay

We had a great stay to celebrate our daughter's 13th birthday. We vacation in the Smokies every year, and this is one of the better cabins we've stayed in. The only issue we had was that our daughter's allergies acted up a bit, probably because it was pet friendly. We usually try to avoid pet friendly cabins for this reason.

Have stayed in this house many times. Always a pleasure. Had many memories of our children staying here and hiking, fishing, etc. Last time staying here was 28 years ago. Many good changes. Too old now to navigate the house, but is wonderful for younger people. House will always have a special place in my heart.

Perfect mountain retreat! Beautiful, well kept, convenient yet secluded.

The cabin was GREAT! An ideal size and layout for 5 - 6 people and pet. The porch was awesome for us to grill burgers and enjoy the beautiful mountains. The wood stove inside was a nice touch. The firepit was good. Wood floors didn't creak (big deal when some want to enjoy early mornings while others sleep) Beds were all pretty comfortable. Master Bedroom loft was great, with a surprise claw tub in bathroom (very nice touch). Heat and A/C worked very well to keep the entire place cozy. We look forward to staying here again and will suggest our friends to try it also. Well worth the price. Only negative would be the $125 cleaning fee compared to $75 for many similar places in the area.

Changed our frame of mind at A-Frame

Five days in pajamas relaxing by the wood stove, outdoor fire pit and hot tub...what else could you ask for. Was exactly what we needed. The only reason Indidnt lost five stars was the cleaning folks probably have not moved furniture to clean in quite a while. Behind the headboards needed attention. The upstairs TV did not get any channels despite the property owner being amazing and having a repair person come out the following day. Neither of those things were of any impact to our stay and we will absolutely be back. Relaxation of this kind is very hard to find!

A beautiful house in a wonderful setting!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at A-Frame of Mind. The last stretch of the gravel road leading to the house was a bit rough due to recent rains, but once we arrived we were extremely pleased with the beauty and cleanliness of the house and with the wonderful setting. Although there are other houses in the area, most were uninhabited while we were there, and the closest one seems to have been deserted for a long time, so we had the privacy we had hoped for. Even if more of the area houses had been inhabited, the elevated location of this house puts it far enough away from the other houses to provide a private and quiet, secluded setting, which is very important to us. We loved the views from the spacious deck and from the inside, with the wall of windows which allowed us to constantly enjoy the loveliness of the surrounding setting. We especially appreciated the helpfulness of the owner Jeff Grooms, who very quickly responded to each of our questions during the rental process and throughout our visit, so we felt that he genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay, which we did. I would definitely recommend this house to others who are looking for a secluded mountain house with great views, and also a location convenient to all the activities available in the Cherokee and Bryson City area.

A PERFECT Smokey Mountain Getaway!

I cannot describe how great this chalet is, but I will do my best. I rented this chalet because I wanted a peaceful retreat away from people and traffic and all of the noise that comes with both - and this chalet delivered. Let's begin - to access this beauty, you must drive a few miles up a two lane road winding through the mountain forest until the paved road turns into a gravel road, and then up another 1.5 miles. Don't let the gravel road intimidate those of you without a 4 wheel drive - the road is in great shape and very drivable. I witnessed several cars driving up the road with absolutely no problems at all. The gravel road will wind you up along mountain creeks to this beautiful chalet nestled on the side of the mountain with a deck overlooking the splendor of the majestic Smokey Mountain skyline. On the deck awaits a heated softtub, barbecue grill, and patio table for outdoor meals. Lounging in the heated softtub was absolutely phenomenal while watching the sun set over the mountain skyline. In the back of the chalet is a firepit which also offers views of the mountain skyline. If that isn't enough, inside the living area of the chalet is a fantastic Ponderosa wood stove, which does a fabulous job of heating the entire living/dining area. Firewood is provided on-site in two seperate locations - the first location is outside the deck, and the second location is at the back of the house by the outdoor fire pit. The chalet has a beautiful kitchen boasting granite counters and slate rock tile floors. The chalet has three bedrooms - two on the main level and a loft-style master bedroom upstairs. There are two bathrooms - one adjacent to the master upstairs and another on the main floor equipped with a full size washer and dryer. There is a full size dining table to enjoy family meals. The kitchen comes equipped with all necessary dishes and utensils - just bring groceries! Groceries can be purchased a few minutes away in the charming historic town of Sylva. Make sure to stop by Pie Times in Sylva for a GREAT wood fired sourdough pizza!!! The Great Smokey Mountain National Park is only a 20-30 minute drive, and the town of Cherokee is also only a few minutes away. Don't forget - this chalet is pet friendly with a max of 2 dogs. I love this chalet - I am looking forward to my future visits!

A Frame of Mind was great for our group.

We spent most of our time hiking and making sunrise and sunset photos so we were not in the cabin much but to come back to a nice cabin was relaxing.

Absolute gem.

We had an absolutely divine time at the house. Getting there was easy and not an issue with our FWD car, instructions provided were accurate and easy to follow so check in was a breeze. The house had been decorated for Christmas making the whole experience a bit more magical. The only negative thing I can say is from my end, we should have stayed longer to enjoy more time off. Thank you Jeff for such a lovely time and for making sure we had arrived without any issues!

Great cabin, fantastic owner, good location and well stocked. Everything you need is there - plenty of laundry detergent, dish soaps, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, firewood. The kitchen is perhaps the best stocked ever with many spices, dishes, utensils and even a crock pot. The photos can’t do this home justice - it is much bigger than we expected and the sensation of being in the trees is just amazing. I am super glad we took our 4 x 4 - the drive is an adventure but so well worth it to be secluded. The hot tub was oh so nice and the many games kept the family entertained. Thanks so much for a great vacation!!!!

This chalet was cute, comfortable and had everything we could possibly need during our stay. FULL kitchen, comfortable beds, nice baths, plenty of space, plus satellite TV, a computer, plenty of family games, a hot tub & washer/dryer! Beautiful home, comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook meals while you are there. Loved the modern appliances and enjoyed coffee on the deck. Beautiful area for a visit. There are houses close by but the A Frame sits above on the side of a mountain. It is higher than the others and secluded. They provide a charcoal grill and we loved every moment we were there.

Pictures do not do it justice

I rented from Jeff for a long weekend as I was moving my daughter into college. We had a lovely time in his home. I felt the house was even nicer than the pictures and I LOVED spending cool mornings and evenings on the balcony! He was very efficient with getting us in and giving me directions. He was also very responsive to my questions about eating places, etc. The first night we arrived it stormed and we lost power for the whole night. Thanks to Jeff's foresight on such an event, his generator kicked in and we were not left in the dark! The home is welcoming and very cozy. I would definitely stay there again. The only concern I would caution about is that the last part to get to the house is rather steep and just gravel. My minivan loaded with my daughters dorm stuff had a bit of a time getting up to the house. I think in winter you would definitely need a 4WD.

A-Frame of Mind is exactly that. A very peaceful and relaxing home with all the amenities one could need. Traveling the mountain road alongside the creek and being able to hear it from the porch gave us the true mountain experience. The hot tub was a great way to end each day after exploring and hiking around the area. Jeff was very responsive and checked in to see if everything was okay. We wish we would have had more time to stay in this wonderful home away from home. We would love to stay here again if we are ever in the area.

I cannot say enough about this property. The home is clean. It is well stocked with towels, spices, games, dishes, pans, etc. There is plenty of sitting space. The living room and dining room are connected. The home has seating at the table for 6, a couch, two comfortable chairs, and a chair at the computer. Outside on the porch is a table with 6 chairs, a hot tub, and grill however, what I loved most about it was the porch was closed in with an easy to open gate. We were able to allow our Goldendoodle outside without having to be on a leash. He loved it even more than we did. The owners were extremely easy to contact, and responded immediately. The door opens with a code, which makes life much simpler when driving for hours and you are ready to just sit and relax. It is perfectly located an hour and a half to Pigeon Forge and 55 mins. to Biltmore. Both place that we visited. We also spent a day in Cherokee (15 mins away), and enjoyed the fresh fruits and vegetables at the roadside stands. The home was very easy to get to, the GPS took us straight to it. Our 2015 Toyota Sienna had NO PROBLEMS getting up to the house. The views are beautiful with the mountains out front of the home, the creek just yards away, and the sound of the water providing serenity. We already began to look to see if there are any homes for sale in the area. If the owners were willing to sell, we would seriously consider. Thank you for a wonderful time. This was a surprise weekend for our anniversary, and my husband is still telling me how wonderful it was. Of course, having a place as beautiful as this home to stay in definitely helped. Thanks for everything, and we WILL be back with our adult children and spouses! LOVED IT!!!!!!

I was born and grew up in Savannah GA. I have dabbled in rental property for the last 25 years. My wife and I love getting away to the mountains as we wind down from busy careers. We found this home as we were looking for a place to reinvest some rental income and fell in love. We hope we are able to give all renters a sense that they can disconnect from busy times and recharge.

Why they chose this property

This property has been built literally on the side of the mountain. When you step down into the common space the walls are lined with windows so that you feel like you could already be outdoors. Even the front deck is built so that all you really see are the tops of the trees. And you have incredible feeling of seclusion. All this and your only sitting 3 miles from smokey mountain expressway, that connects you to wherever you want to explore.

What makes this property unique

The openness of the home in the mountains, built literally in the trees makes you feel like you are in a tree house, a really nice tree house. Then you open the windows and hear the sounds of the creek below. The expansive deck outside allows you to enjoy the outside as well, after all that is why you are getting away.
