The nearest walking destination is the Tudor House approximately 1 mile away, Lake Arrowhead Village is a 5-minute drive, and Sky Park is 15 minutes away, Lake Gregory Beach and Water Park is 15 minutes away. A car is recommended. The property has 2 units - Castle II is the lower unit. Security cameras are located to view the trash cage area About the Area: Lake Arrowhead, Lake Gregory, and Big Bear Lake are recreational lakes in the Southern California San Bernardino mountains. They offer fresh crisp air, cooler weather (10-15 degrees) in the summer, and snow in the winter. They also offer a more relaxed and low-key energy “vibe” making them ideal locations for getaways to renew the mind, spirit, and body and to reconnect with family and friends. We answer frequent questions regarding the lakes and have put together some information below on what makes each location unique so it is easier to match with your specific goals for your time away. Upon booking one of our properties, you will receive more detailed information on how you can spend your time in the area. Big Bear Lake is a public lake and friendly to all types of boats and water sports and is the largest lake of the three. There is a short paved bike and walking trail that goes along the lake. Big Bear is a City and is more populated with stores, restaurants, and nightlife than the other two locations. It has more of a “desert” feel in terms of its topography. Big Bear is 26 miles up the mountain from Lake Arrowhead, Although none of our properties are in Big Bear, we recommend it for a day trip. Lake Arrowhead is a private lake and is accessible to guests staying at properties with lake rights if the owners have given permission for guests to use their ALA (Arrowhead Lake Association) passes. If this is the case, the Amenity “lake access” will be checked on the listing. In our list of properties, the Gingerbread Cottage is providing lake access. With lake access, specifically, the lake trail is accessible. There is a $10 per person per day fee that is required to be paid to receive a wristband for access. More information can be found on the ALA website. Swimming is allowed from the lake trail at any location except the beach clubs (these are restricted to owners). There is no ability to launch boats or SUPs on the lake. The Village is lakefront and is the main area for shops and restaurants and has a fitness center as well. The Queen boat is a tour boat on Lake Arrowhead that provides much of the history of the town - tickets can be purchased at the shop by the lake. There is a local company that offers water skiing lessons boat tours and rentals. This area has more of a small town and alpine feel to it. The Villas area (south side of the lake) in Lake Arrowhead is cooler and gets more snow that lasts longer than the north side of the lake which gets more sun in the winter and is hotter in temperature in the summer. The Villas area is an older area with older homes and narrower streets. The Tudor House is an event center offering Sunday brunch and a variety of events. Skypark is a local attraction as well as Snow Valley for skiing for both Lake Arrowhead and Lake Gregory. Lake Arrowhead is 15 minutes up the mountain from Lake Gregory. Lake Gregory is a public lake in the town of Crestline, a small town about 20 minutes from the base of the mountain of San Bernardino. It is the closest mountain town to events and locations “down the hill”. In the past few years, the lake operations have become privately managed with significant improvements being done at the lake including the development of a water park, beach improvements, and boat, kayak, and canoe rentals. There is a fee to access the beach area and the water park and no fee to access the 2 1/2 mile trail around the lake. Fishing is allowed and more info can be found on the Lake Gregory website. Crestline has a small-town alpine feel with the lake nestled amongst the tall trees. Crestline gets less snow than the other 2 lake locations. The quaint town has restaurants, coffee shops, and thrift stores. Twin Peaks/Blue Jay sits in between Crestline and Lake Arrowhead and is convenient to both lakes. It has its own restaurants, shops, and thrift stores. It is famous for its outdoor farmer’s market on Thursday afternoons (seasonal).
The age minimum is 25 (families with kids welcome).

The Castle was GREAT!
We really enjoyed our month in Lake Arrowhead and staying at the Castle. The location was perfect- close the the lake with a great lake view, but secluded and serene . Our home was clean, well-equipped, recently remodeled and attractive. It was exactly what we needed to relax, reset and rejuvenate! The owners were friendly, accommodating and responsive. My wife and I both commented when we were leaving, that we had gotten exactly what we were looking for from our trip- a much needed sense of peace and calm in our lives. We’ll be back!

Amazing views...
The pictures of this property don’t do the actual view justice!!! The house is amazing. Plenty of room, beautiful views and all that you need for a weekend away. Sitting on the porch each night was so relaxing. The property manager was attentive, checked on us and responsive when needed. Highly recommended!!!

Beautiful and Peaceful
Went up to Lake Arrowhead for a peaceful and relaxing stay in nature. Wanted a place that was a little more refined than a traditional cabin experience. It truly met our expectations. House is lovely, has all the amenities. Have to admit, super spacious overkill and amazing for just the two of us! Incredible view and very quiet! Easy to get to the all the surrounding towns. Our intention was to relax in nature, meditate and rejuvenate. Was perfect for that. It really helps to read ALL the information provide in the email we received prior to arriving as well as the notebook on the kitchen counter. Very well organized. Love that the cabinets have pictures on the inside to know where to put things back. VERY SATISFIED.

We love the mountains! We live in Orange County, CA and live life in the fast lane. We can't wait to escape to the mountains every chance we get. We started our short term rentals to share our passion for the mountains and beautiful, well designed spaces with people like you.

Why they chose this property

We acquired the Castle at an auction. It was a sad Castle because it had been vacant since 2007 when the market crashed and the owners at the time let it go. The bank owned it and finally in 2017, put it up for auction. We discovered it while renovating another property in the area and were walking the dog in a new area. We couldn't get into the house but managed to climb up a ladder to look in a window and were amazed at what we views!! We were immediately captured. We were able to acquire the Castle at the auction and began renovations, finishing them just in time for Thanksgiving 2017. Why this property? It has majestic views that are priceless and it was built by a German engineer and is the most solid residence that I've ever experienced. The house was left with dishes, silverware, thousands of books, personal letters, and much more. We were able to get to the know the builders of the house through these letters (they passed away years ago), and we wanted to make it come alive again and share it with as many people as we can. A guest recently posted this review on another website. Here is what Pedro had to say..."Back in January, I wanted to give my father in law a life experience rather than merely participate in the event of celebrating his birthday this past April 7. The conundrum was this: What do you choose as an experience for a man that has pretty much done everything, has traveled much of the world several times, lives overlooking the blue Pacific from the Malibu cliffs, and is not much into senseless, materialistic consumerism or technology and tech gadgets, as we know them? I remembered that he once had told me that he at one point though of buying a secondary home in Lake Arrowhead, and that he loved the place. (Continued below under UNique Benefits)

What makes this property unique

I also remembered that he had not been to the area in at least 10 years, so I made it my goal to find a ‘perfect’ house for the entire family (6 of us, as the main nucleus) to celebrate and honor him, on or near the lake. When I set the parameters my search for the area, over 70 listings showed up as part of the search. It didn’t take much time for me, though. My eyes automatically fixated on the fourth listing. The views were simply mesmerizing and, until I actually arrived at The Castle this weekend, I thought that perhaps Photoshop had been an enhancer, if not a co-creator of such a magnificent setting! How very wrong I was and how very happy being wrong made me and my family! The views!!! YES, THE VIEWS!!! They are simply ridiculous from every window in this place and from every room! Including the bathrooms. Simply stunning! And outside. Oh, the surrounding environs…! Prepare to gasp here too at the breathtaking gorgeousness of the natural setting. If you are looking for spectacular, gasp and drop your jaw open majesty and beauty, then do not think too much or doubt at all: JUMP INTO DECISIVE ACTION and book this place as soon as you come across its listing! As if the Nature and the house itself as as a physical space were not glorious enough, a huge realization came to me as I went from room to room, inspecting, admiring and looking for something to perhaps dislike or improve upon… It became clear to me that The Castle is not a transitional lodging nor a rental space: THIS IS A HOME. An exquisitely conceived, decorated, maintained and lovingly cared for home! Everything here is top notch. Everything here is spotless. The attention to detail, and the extras in this home are as ridiculous as the views it boasts. I cannot extol Lisa’s role enough as the keeper and facilitator in this amazing experience that is The Castle at Lake Arrowhead.
