About this property

Short term Fire Island Beach House (Kismet)

This is a classic, 70's modern open spacious home that is about a minute from the beach on foot. People who stay here love it and part of that is that they do not come with expectations of a 5star luxury resort. It's a super cool home, a little on the older side. But packed with character and charm. We have also done a lot of improvements which the current photos don't reflect
A great place for groups and families! Kismet is such a great place- 2 restaurants, a market, ice cream shop , play ground, tennis courts and of course the 24/7 beach just steps away!

4 bedrooms. (5 beds, one of which is a king, the others are queens). It sleeps 8 and is priced for 8. Someone must be over 21. Guests above 8 will have a per person up charge .


There are no cars allowed on Fire Island so it's all about the ferry from Bay Shore, which is a 20 minute departure from stress into the dreamscape that is Fire Island! The house is great for families (including smaller kids but it isn't totally 'kid proofed' with outlet covers (for example). We get a lot of 20 and 30 something friends, as well as wedding party guests and the occasional writer! We rent by the weekend, the mid week, or by the full week (Fri to Fri).

There's a private deck (with a table and chairs) open to the stars, a full kitchen, BBQ, outdoor shower, house wagon, some bikes, and some beach chairs.

We don't provide towels, but we do provide fresh linens. The house is professionally cleaned for each guest.

If you really need towels, we might be able to do something but there will be an extra charge- House keeping needs to focus on things other than towel cleaning!

Great mom/daughter weekend

We had a great stay at Motel-O for a mother/daughter weekend. Plenty of space for hanging out together - the living room is spacious and comfortable, there is a large outdoor dining table and the covered porch downstairs was a great retreat from the sun. Wally was super responsive to any questions we had.

Kismet Wedding weekend/Ophelia

Very unique, historical beach home. We had a fantastic time despite Tropical storm Ophelia. A very special thanks to Wally who was so attentive & accommodating, knowing the storm was coming. Beautiful wedding, Kismet is a gorgeous location. We want to go back to experience the home in good beach weather.

Wonderful experience

Our stay at the Motel-O was great. Wally was very accommodating and pleasant to work with. It is an ideal rustic beach house with charm and character, super comfortable with everything you would need on your beach vacation. Adult kids loved the outdoor shower and the eclectic charm of the place. Easy walk to beach and bay just a little disappointed the bikes were not in great condition but so many other things to do it didn’t change our opinion.

Disgusting - avoid at all costs

By far the worst vacation rental experience ever. The best I can say for this property is it is well located and the outdoor shower worked. House itself was absolutely unlivable. The walls are infested with mold, resulting in an awful odor. There is no gate, as a result the stairs between first and second floors were covered in animal feces while we were there. The doors don't lock, so we never felt safe, nor did we feel comfortable leaving our belongings in the house while we were away. The toilets barely flushed. The owner was also a nightmare to deal with. There are plenty of other properties in Kismet - avoid this one at all costs.

Great Kickoff to Summer Weekend

Recently my girlfriends and I rented this beautiful Kismet home and we could not have been more thrilled with the outcome. Not only was the house gorgeous, spacious, and aesthetically pleasing, but the beach is a short walk away and the private dock at the end of the street is a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Wally was an amazing host and was always available if there were questions. We will remember this weekend forever, thanks Motel-O hope to be back soon!!

Comfy, casual relaxation in very unique home

First of all, thank you for offering a short term rental during the height of the summer- really rare and so very appreciated! The house was just as described in words and photos, and then some. The kitchen/living room area was larger than we expected, and very well appointed with quality cookware, plenty of utensils and even a good set of knives, which is another rarity in any rental! I could actually slice tomatoes. ;-) When we settled into bed after a full day of sun, surf and sand, I was so pleasantly surprised that we had a memory foam mattress, which was really comfy and I slept like a baby. Kismet is a nice town that has a family friendly feeling to it and was perfect for us with our teenagers. There is a market that had what we needed, but we did bring some groceries and staples with us, and we tried both of the restaurants as well. We enjoyed exploring on the bikes, playing LPs on the record player, and having sunset cocktails on the dock at the bay end of the 'street.' Outdoor shower was key! Wally is a very attentive and easy-going host, and he answered all of our questions. If you seek R&R in a unique home with a very cool vibe, look no further. We hope to return again and again.

Great house! Very Generous Owner and awesome neighbors!

A group of friends and I rented This house for MDW. We all had a great time. What made things even better the owner Wally was very generous and accommodating with making sure our experience was a great one. The neighbors were very friendly as well. This is something for my friends and I to Consider in the future when looking to rent on Fire Island again!

What makes this property unique

The world's most stunning sunsets are a 2 minute walk away. I love sitting on the mid house deck and looking at the stars/ hearing the beach.
