Beytagh House is a beautiful Town House in Landmark Historic Downtown Savannah that was built in 1872 for Mrs. and Mr. Winnefred and Gerald Beytagh, Esquire, of England. Beytagh is 1,490 square feet of interior space plus an outdoor deck and private fenced courtyard that is easily accessible and conveniently located in the Crawford Ward at Crawford Square, one of the 22 original squares of Savannah. This gracious home offers comfort, a fully stocked kitchen and the historic beauty of original heart of pine floors, five original fireplaces, a private deck and a private fenced in courtyard. Beytagh is just a short walk away from Forsyth Park, City Market, River Street, and Broughton Street. You won't need your car to get to shopping, restaurants, arts, culture, and entertainment. Wander out the front door to beautiful Crawford Square, or relax in the private courtyard. Parking is Only $1 per hour M-S 8-8 (Free Parking one street away.). Crawford Square was designed in 1841 and named in honor of William Harrison Crawford, Minister of France during the reign of Napoleon. Crawford was said to be the only foreign politician with any influence over Napoleon.(Just a 'short' comment.)

There are two upstairs bedrooms each with a queen bed, one full bath with a walk-in shower on the first floor and another full bath on the second floor with a walk in shower and original claw-foot enamel bath tub. There is a formal living room, formal dining room, kitchen and laundry on the first floor along with a comfy TV den (high speed WiFi, 130 satellite channels, HD flat-screen TV). Central air with ceiling fans in each room, and 100 year old Oaks out front which add even more ambiance to the architecture.

Beytagh is, on a pet by pet basis (less than 30 pounds and well behaved and non-destructive) pet friendly so that you may bring your best friend on your perfect vacation. The enclosed courtyard is perfect for them to enjoy, as well as having Crawford Square nearby. Our community is very dog friendly; many restaurants have outside dining and allow you to dine with your pup. (Pets must be on a Veterinarian prescribed flea regiment.) The 22 squares are laid out on a grid pattern and provide the setting for gorgeous historic homes and businesses. The squares provide islands of tranquility, shade and beauty in the city, which, because of the short distances, and level tree-lined streets between them, make it a walker's paradise. And, Beytagh's courtyard is a welcome retreat at the end of a busy day.

Beytagh is a wonderful Southern Home with all the grandeur, charisma and eccentricity that one might expect on a trip to beautiful and lively Savannah. Add to this Paul's attention to detail and GENUINE caring that you enjoy your stay, and you simply can not go wrong booking this property. Easy parking, pet-friendly and just around the corner from one of Savannah's stunning "squares" plus being able to walk anywhere you are likely to want to go while in this exciting city, this comfortable and welcoming property will reward you for visiting. Very highly recommended!

The owner was very gracious and accommodating.
The house was immaculate, and conveniently located in a safe neighborhood, within walking distance to everything. The beds are very comfortable, and the house is stocked with everything you could possibly need. One note is that you can hear a lot of noise in the front bedroom, but earplugs drown out the majority of it. The back bedroom is very quiet. There is a lovely patio in the back of the house where you can sit and drink your morning coffee or have wine in the evening. The owner really helped us enjoy our stay and is highly recommended.

Wonderful atmosphere in a period home. You know you are in the South when you stay here! Owner very accommodating. Very clean and filled with conveniences. Facing busy street/ transition neighborhood but quick walk to river, squares, all the places you want to go. Never have to drive if you don't want to. Street parking readily available. So nice to have a dog friendly place to stay. Very grateful.

About the host

Host profile image
Having lived and taught both Music and Art in Heidelberg and Munich Germany for eighteen years before moving to the Savannah area 11 years ago, I was spoiled with European city customs. I've lived in the 'country' in the suburbs for the past 11 years missing that Euro feel. I would experience it every time I set foot in the Historic District of Savannah; it somehow felt like home.

Why they chose this property

After many years of searching for a home that has the historic element not modernized or updated totally out of it, I found Beytagh and knew the second I entered it that 'this was it'! Original heart of pine floors with 146 years of wear, not refinished, not made to look 'new' again (the beauty of a true patina that only age can create) plus located at one of the original remaining 22 squares with 100 year old oaks dripping with Spanish moss out front and minutes by foot to anything and everything that Savannah has to offer, along with the much sought after charm of the many original architectural touches had me 'charisma-seized'.

What makes this property unique

Relax. Take that extra stroll around yet another beautiful square enjoying the architecture that, unlike Atlanta which was burned to the ground, still lives in Historic Savannah Beauty because someone had a cunning ken and gave Sherman the keys to the city as a gift for Lincoln during the Civil War, lest none of this would exist for our enjoyment today. That 'First Historic Preservationist' deserves much credit from us all.

Regretfully, Gerald Beytagh died in 1876 leaving behind Winnefred (with an 'E') to live her days alone in this home that I now call Beytagh House in his honor. I am told that he and she rest in Bonaventure Cemetery, though I am yet to make that research personally.
