The owner of the property BIlly is a great guy. Great communication before the trip and during our shortened stay. When we arrived for our stay the remnants of hurricane Isias were coming through the area so we had to cut the stay short. The owner was very understanding and helpful with this and working on a refund of some of the costs.

Camp Billy was a great place to spend the week. The back porch may have ruined us—we ate every meal out there because the view was incredible..The sunsets were worth sticking around for and the Fourth of July fireworks over the lake were amazing. My wife and daughter logged enough paddle board hours to qualify for a sponsorship, and our Vizsla was convinced she had been hired as Lake Summit’s official lifeguard. I’m pretty sure she spent more time in the water than on land. The house was comfortable, well equipped, and made it easy to settle in and relax. We’d happily stay here again! Some it and some ain’t…IYKYK.

Amazing Place!

A rustic and lovely getaway. One bedroom on the main level and two connected through an outdoor staircase. There is much charm in this place and the view is to die for. The wood burning fireplace and the large deck make this place the perfect cozy getaway!

Excellent stay!

Lake Summit was just as I remembered 25+ years ago! The house was cozy for our family of 7, but just perfect. We loved the porch looking out onto the lake and spent most of our time there when we weren't down by the water. The fenced in area around the house and the water made it a great vacation for our dogs as well. Thank you for a wonderful vacation and new memories!

Perfect Thanksgiving Weekend!

Our whole family could not have been more awestruck by this beautiful, embracing home and its natural setting. The gourmet kitchen with an extensive library of cookbooks was exactly what this family of cooks drooled over! We enjoyed ourselves and did not want to leave, we actually did not leave! We plan to return! We felt so lucky to have found this property.

Family get together

What a wonderful and magical place. Something for the family aged 2-92. I wish I had one more day to sit on the porch and watch the rain and the birds.

A heavenly getaway

There is no place like Camp Billy. It is easy to go for a week and never leave the house. You really don't want to. The porch is just spectacular. The heart of the home. If you are a birder, you will be amazed at the number of species. And the hummingbird feeders are a huge attraction. And then those sunsets! Can't wait for my next visit.

Wonderful Fall weekend

Property was just as described and our stay was perfect! Billy was a great host, checking in with us to make sure we were comfortable. The house and location are so charming. As described, the front porch was where we wanted to spend the most time. I mean when we weren’t on the water! The pontoon was fun and we kayaked twice a day! Would love to go back in the summer!

Fantastic lake house

We loved the position of this house - lake views, lake access. The stairs to the lake may be an important consideration, but we were all thankfully well and able. We loved the kayaks, washer and dryer, large tables and extraordinary views. It wasn't spotless in the way a newer house would be expected to be, it was a well-loved lake house.

Camp Billy

Camp Billy was perfect for our family of five. The lake is beautiful and the house had everything you could ask for and more! The porch overlooking the lake makes you truly feel like you are on vacation. We enjoyed all of our meals and family time outside; my children loved watching the hummingbirds and jumping and swimming in the lake. We will defiantly be back next summer. The owner, Billy is very responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Loved Camp Billy

We had a group of 7 adults stay for a long weekend at Camp Billy. It was a great location for our group some of who mountain biked, hiked and/or enjoyed shopping in Saluda and Traveler's Rest. We cooked in the chef's kitchen several nights and had everything we needed. The lake views, front porch, and stone fireplace make this place very special! As well as the large tv over the fireplace so we could watch Georgia-Florida game on Saturday.

Laugh... OK Melinda, You have won my worse review ever !!!... I am sorry you were offended by the art work that is on my walls. I assume you did not go through my VRBO gallery before your arrival. The same art in the pictures is the work presented in the house... The house does have that artist vibe. It definitely is not your typical property. Being owned by an artist, it expresses and promotes creativity both on the walls and in the chefs kitchen (and of course, being in the mountains and on a lake). That is the attraction to the guests that typically stay at "Camp Billy". You are correct however, the house is on a mountain and may not be as suitable for a group of elderly ladies that do not have a lot of mobility... I did send Jessica to the house to help you both unload and load your vehicles, but this brings up a good point. This house is more appropriate for guests who can do that themselves.. Thank you for your stay Melinda, and sorry to "offend".... Fortunately , VRBO has a lot of choices to fit the needs and tastes of all types of guests. I wish you ladies the best, and good luck on your next trip ! Respectfully, Billy

special lake house

This was the most relaxing week our family has ever spent together. If you love unique rental homes that reflect the owners' passions and are full of character and sense of place this is the lake house for you. Everything from a ridiculous amount of rafts to a massage table (Tammy came to the house and was amazing) has been thought of to really just cook, swim, and enjoy wine on the perfect lake summit porch. Our son and golden spent hours on the paddleboard exploring the lake. We loved sunset so much we ended up not eating dinner until 10 a few nights. This is the most well stocked kitchen I have seen in a rental home. Renting their pontoon boat is a must! I would also return in the winter to spend more time reading his massive collection of cookbooks.

Unique Lakeside Property

This property is definitely one of a kind - built in 1920 and still retains the old charm of a lakeside cottage, but with modern amenities. The porch is a wonderful place for the family to gather for dining, games and just plain old conversation - the view over the lake and mountains in the distance is beautiful. For renters bringing a dog along for the fun, this is the perfect spot - even a dog bed on the porch where ours spent a lot of time enjoying the view along with the rest of us. The property is fenced and our "city dog" loved being able to run around to explore at her leisure. The convenience of having both a pontoon and kayaks at our disposal at the dock was great. We all felt as if we were visiting the home of a friend, as the furnishings were very comfortable and there were many interesting things to see - the old fireplace with the owl andirons was unique and was used on the cooler days. The steps to the lower level and on to the boathouse could be a problem for some folks, but definitely doable for the older folks in our group. Overall great stay!

The best vacation spot

This is our second time staying here. We love this place. Whether you are down at the boat house swimming or just sunning or up at the main house lounging or reading on the large porch with day bed and swing, it is great place for making memories for all ages - from 15 to 78. We also had the boat for a couple days and enjoyed cruising the lake. Billy is a great host and super responsive. He always makes sure you have what you need. This is his family cottage and a real part of the history of Lake Summit (very cool article in Charleston Mercury newsletter found online) There is a lot to do in the area, but we rarely leave because we truly enjoy staying at Camp Billy! Even when we had some late day storms, we just played cards or watched movies. We brought our dog and he was able to enjoy the fenced in back yard. He went swimming and on several nice walks around the lake. It is a comfortable place to kick back, disconnect from the world and connect with each other. The kids are already planning our next visit.

Fabulous Getaway

As a family of 4, we spent a week relaxing at the camp just after our daughters finished their final exams. The accommodations were perfect, very comfortable, and spacious. We could easily spend time together as a family eating, chatting, and hanging out, or find places both indoors or outdoors to be alone to read, relax, or work. Highlights: the porch was awesome and we used it all the time, even when it was raining (which it did a lot the week we were there); the living room had comfortable furniture to lounge in and a fireplace that we used all the time; the dinning room had a long table that made it easy to eat, play, and work; the master bedroom was very comfortable; the cottage bedroom was a great place for our daughters to stay; the kitchen has everything you need to cook gourmet meals; the bathroom worked well; our dog was at home in both the house and the yard; the boathouse was well suited for chilling and sunbathing; the pontoon boat provided a great way to experience the lake; the view from the porch of the lake really made this camp a place to remember. Billy could not have been a better host, the camp could not have been better outfitted, and the location could not have been any more peaceful and relaxing.

Billy's Camp

This is the very interesting eclectic home of a Gourmet Cook, well known talented paint and ink artist, photographer and nature devotee. An older home, with I assume an interesting history, among many other similar homes, on a 500 acre lake, in the NC hills. Setting is forested, lots of typical for the area flora, hard wood trees, Ivys, and other NC plants, on the gentle slopes of a hill leading to the dock and lake. The home, has an amazing art, every wall similar trip to a local art museum, as well as a rich broad scoped book collection. Modern and older mystery books, are collected along with a international cook books, international and local travel books and photography collections. In addition there are objects de art collected from world travel, as well as many local crafts that enhance the interior and porch areas of the house. The house is older, not ancient, and for it's age is remarkably clean. It appears that there have been some skillful constructed additions, fitting very well into the ambience of the setting. Well suited for groups 4-8 adults , with children, as there is addition sleeping quarters above the boat house on the lake, a easy stepped walk 50 yard away from the main house. The lake is interesting, large enough for skiing and wakeboarding, but as with many smallish lakes compliance with agreed rules of the road are required for safety. The house for an additional reasonable cost includes a not new but cetrtainly serviceable and fun pontoon boat. Travel for end-to-end of the lake is a leisurely 25 minutes, there is an island to along the way to explore and tie up to. Access to the house is via a typical for the area winding road, that changes into a well maintained gravel road. Outdoor eating options are very well supported, and post evening meals games and discussions are encouraged bu=y the easy setting. Overall a very interesting experience, in a great setting, this is an older lake house that clearly has been well maintain, with an impressively supplied kitchen and remarkably lovingly enhanced by the owners experiences, humor and talent. Future road trips through North Carolina will hopefully include a stay at " Billy's Camp" as we have only scratched the surface of the many interesting aspects of this home. From practica aspect, the owner is very responsive to questions and solutions, and there are many immediate neighbors that are integrated in helping what clearly is a tight collection of friends.
