About this property
Coastal Cottage on Bike Path to South Beach, Edgartown, Katama Farm & Airfield
LOWER AUGUST RATES!
With beautiful vistas of Katama’s Waller Farm, steps to the bike path, and less than a mile walk/bike ride to South Beach, Herring Moon Cottage is a perfect setting for a magical beach vacation!
A charming, open, sun-lit cottage with two bedrooms, a full bath, great room, sun room and private deck with outdoor shower awaits your Island holiday. Turn left for South Beach (>1 mile) and right for town (1 ½ miles), both easily accessible on bicycle or by foot.
It’s less than a tenth of mile (5 minute walk) for a ride on a bi-plane at Katama Airfield or a meal at the restaurant there, and a short walk to Katama General Store with its welcoming porch and take out food. It is also a quick bike ride (4 minutes) to the Farm Institute for camp or food shopping, and it’s an easy walk or bike ride into Edgartown for restaurants, and shopping. The VTA, or Vineyard Transit Authority electric buses pass right by the house and can be waved down for a pick up and drop off. With our wonderful bus system, you can travel anywhere on the Island cheaply and safely. The addition of the electric buses has made them very quiet.
The cottage is cozy without feeling the least bit small. The bedrooms are newly decorated and have generous closets and new beds with all cotton bedding. The soaring ceiling and bright sun room are expansive while also providing a private retreat. There are games and books on hand to help you relax and unwind.
After the beach, enjoy the view from your private deck after your outdoor shower. It's not summer on the Island without an outdoor shower! There is a grill provided for your convenience.
Your hosts are an Island author and an charter fisherman, who are dedicated to making your vacation a success, without being obtrusive. Your cottage has it's own driveway, private entrance, front deck and private back deck and outdoor shower. They are more than happy to help you plan your vacation or just leave you alone!
Every guest will take home a signed copy of The Legend of Katama, the Wampanoag Creation Story of Dolphins to commemorate your Katama visit, and you might end up with some home-baked bread or bagels during your stay!

Check-out instructions
The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items and remove leftover food and drinks
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
It's super helpful on our side if you have a chance to strip the beds that you've used, but we understand that you can be rushing to get out, so while we appreciate it, it's not necessary!
We do ask that you gather any used towels in either the laundry basket or the bath tub, so that we aren't washing anything that hasn't been used.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Wonderful property, hosts, and location! Our MV family getaway could not have been any more perfect. We were first timers and Stacy answered many questions to acclimate us and gave many wonderful tips! Property is right on the many amazing bike paths on island. Fishing at South Beach was a dream night and we miss everything about our stay already! Lots of places to see in this country/world but the if we are ever back on island we would book again in a heartbeat.
We had an amazing week in MV staying here in the perfect location- a close bike ride to South Beach and downtown Edgartown. Stacy and Bob were kind, welcoming, and accommodating by allowing us to check-in a bit earlier and even providing some baby toys for our infant. They even offered homemade bagels, which sounded delicious but we unfortunately were not around to try. The apartment did have some ants inside, which is hard to control in the summer months, and some pet hair on the pillows and headboard in the main room, but these were not really in their control. We would absolutely love to stay here again!
We had a great visit to Martha's Vineyard and a fantastic stay at this well appointed cottage. The location is excellent - close to the best beach on the island and with access to bike and walking paths. Loved the outdoor shower and the cottage was comfortable and outfitted with everything we needed. Hosts were available if needed but otherwise gave us the privacy we were looking for! Lovely property overall. Would stay again!

Airy, sparkling and super comfy! Herring Moon Cottage oozes Vineyard charm!
This fresh cottage in Edgartown is a delightful find! It is spacious, tastefully appointed, fresh and immaculately clean. The location is lovely, private and peaceful. It feels away from town. ..and yet we were only a few minutes away from stores and shopping. It has just the right amount of tasteful charm to get a sense of the island without experiencing an overabundance of gift shop tchotchke.
The delightful host, Stacey, greeted us with a warm welcome when we arrived. We were honored to be her first guests staying at the cottage and it was immediately evident that our comfort was her top priority! She has equipped the two bedroom vacation home with thoughtful amenities and conveniences and, with her warm greeting, we felt immediately at home!
We were delightfully surprised to find a chilled bottle of wine and fruit set for us in the refrigerator in addition to seeing that everything we might need was there in the well-equipped kitchen. The beautiful step-down den, all newly furnished, provided a very comfortable place to relax with TV or a book. The queen-sized bed with new and fresh linens was wonderfully comfortable, the shower perfect and, when we were there, a lovely outdoor shower was being completed. There is a lovely, sunny deck, with table and chairs as well as chaise lounge chairs for relaxing.
The Right Fork Diner at the airport is less than a mile away - heading toward the beach. It provided unexpected delight! The Diner is very popular since they offer the most delicious breakfast imaginable (e.g., eggs Benedict on smoked Gouda polenta with vegetable hash). Really! Get there early. .. especially on a Sunday. If you must wait to be seated, you can enjoy watching the coming and goings of this little airstrip. We watched . . .and then also enjoyed taking a flight in the old red 1940 biplane kept at the airport. It was a truly wonderful adventure we won't forget!
Everything about our stay in Edgartown at the Herring Moon Cottage was simply delightful! Delightful! We cannot wait to plan our next visit!
