About this property

Blue Bay House - Historic, Ocean View Property

Blue Bay House is an historic and captivating village property, perched on the hillside beside the timeless Opera House Arts building in Stonington. Blue Bay House has been updated over its long history, transformed from a church to a modern day chateau and is a fun, unique property to spend time taking in all Stonington has to offer.

Blue Bay House is a four bedroom, two bathroom and two half bath home venue. Enjoy elevated views of Stonington’s busy harbor, and the village from this elevated retreat. Entering on the main floor, a set of stairs off this hallway brings you down to the eat-in kitchen and first half bath. The kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials to whip up any meal. There is a dining room table and multiple other seating options in this space, as well as glimpses of Stonington harbor from the forward facing windows.

The main floor of the home has a family room overlooking the Stonington thoroughfare and the sights of Main and West Main from above. From the family room, you can head down the hallway to the media room, which also is adorned with a queen size sleeper sofa. The "sanctuary" has soaring ceilings, original, vintage stained glass windows, a projector and large screen for movie theatre style events on rainy days. The space is furnished with a sectional sofa, multiple large areas for dining, creating or game play. A first floor bedroom and remodeled full bathroom make the ground floor a highlight of this vintage property.

The second floor of Blue Bay House has two bedrooms a third sitting room and a 3/4 bathroom with large shower stall. The opera box that over looks the great room - is set up as a small office / workspace. There is also toy storage and literature in this area of the home. There are two bedrooms on the second floor: a full bedroom and queen bedroom both with dressers and bed side tables. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with just the right amount of art and decor. The ocean views from the second floor sitting room are splendid and the space itself, bright and airy. As if this wasn’t enough of an offering, guests will follow a stairway up to the third floor where there is a trundle sleeper and a second half bath. This space has a twin trundle bed, built in bench, two large skylights that pop open to help the space breathe and panoramic views of Stonington's Waterfront.

Blue Bay House is an incredible in-town property with so many fun and unique features. If you are looking for a spacious, village accommodation this home will not disappoint. Contact us today for more information or to reserve your time at Blue Bay.

**While this home is lovely, it is not without quirks. The home is currently experiencing a drainage issue on the ground floor: on big rain events water has been known to come in to the ground floor of the home from the Eastern edge of the foundation (in the half bathroom). While this is a nuisance, the space is furnished with a powerful dehumidifier, lifted trim boards and a push broom to keep the water managed.

really terrific, special

This is a converted church so it is atypical in its layout, but it is very comfortable and has some simply extraordinary elements. There is a ton of space to be together or to be separate if you choose. There are soaring spaces and cozy spaces. good outside spaces , also with views. All the views are spectacular vistas of the Deer Isle thoroughfare so there is always a lot of boat traffic to enjoy. If you spend a lot of time on the water chances are the people at the house will be able to see you from one of the rooms. There is an attic bedroom on the top floor that everyone will want. The place is very well equipped, towels , blankets, coffee filters, paper towels, etc. Parking is easy and ample. I have rented 17 places in Stonington over 23 years and everyone in the family thought this was one of the best, if not the best.

Wonderful stay in a quirky converted church

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay in this spacious, quirky, converted church. There was room for the family to spread out and enjoy quiet time reading or looking over the beautiful Stonington Harbor, as well as wonderful spaces to gather indoors and out. The picnic table on the lawn was a favorite spot for morning coffee and for watching the lobster boats go by. The house comes with everything you might need (cooking implements, washer/dryer, etc) and has a lot of character as well. The Island Agency is a DREAM to work with.

All cancellations must be in writing and received by Agent. Cancellations may only be made between the date that a reservation deposit is received and a date determined to be 45 days prior to the tenants scheduled arrival date. Cancelations within 45 days of arrival will not result in a refund in whole or part of rental monies received. If a cancellation is made prior to 45 days of arrival, the Agent shall, as an accommodation to the Tenant, make an effort to re-rent the property at the published rate for the rental term reserved. Tenants are encouraged to purchase travel insurance for all vacations to cover many situations that may arise that might cause one to cancel vacation plans. There are many independent insurance providers available to tenants.
