HARVEST SEASON IN WALLA WALLA, AND A COTTAGE OF YOUR OWN AT THE END OF IT

There is a stretch of about ten weeks each year when this valley is exactly what everyone hopes it will be. Crush is running. The vineyards go gold and rust against the Blue Mountains. The tasting rooms that were three-deep in August have room at the bar again, and the person pouring has time to actually talk to you.

What you want after a day like that is not a hotel corridor and a keycard. You want your own front door, a hot tub with nobody else in it, and quiet.

That is what this is. A standalone one-bedroom cottage on a quiet country loop outside Walla Walla, with a hot tub, a fire pit, a working garden, and three of the valley's best wineries close enough to ride a bike to.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Couples, mostly — this cottage was built for two people who want a wine trip that feels like a rest rather than a schedule. It also works beautifully for a couple travelling with two young children, and for solo travellers who want somewhere genuinely peaceful to land.

It sleeps four: a queen bed in the bedroom and a queen sofa bed in the living room. We will say plainly that it is not the right fit for two couples — the layout does not give you the separation you would want. If you are a group of four adults, message us and we will point you to the right property in our portfolio.

WHAT FALL IS ACTUALLY LIKE HERE

September is harvest in full swing. The valley smells like fermenting fruit, the winemakers are working long days, and the light in the late afternoon is the best of the year. Evenings turn cool enough that the hot tub stops being an amenity and starts being the plan.

October is the month the leaves turn. Foliage in the Blue Mountains, the last of the farmers market on Main Street, tasting rooms with breathing room. Mornings are crisp; afternoons are perfect for the bike.

November brings Fall Release Weekend — the first weekend of the month, when the valley's wineries release their new vintages and the whole town turns out for it. It is the single best weekend of the year to be here, and it books out early. After that, the valley goes quiet in the best way, and Thanksgiving in a cottage with the fire pit lit is a very good idea.

One honest note about the season: the pool is open May through October and closed November through April. The hot tub runs all year. We would rather tell you that here than have you find out on arrival.

THE HOT TUB

Open year-round, out under the sky beside the garden. In July a hot tub is a nice extra. From late September onward it becomes the centre of the evening — the place you end up after a day of tasting, with the last glass, watching the sky go dark over the vineyards.

It is kept locked between uses for safety, so we unlock it for you and it is yours whenever you want it, quiet hours respected. The safety straps go back on when you are done.

THE GARDEN

This is the part guests write about most, and it is the reason the cottage is named what it is. Hydrangeas and ornamental grasses spill over the curved path to the door. Beside the cottage there is a real, working garden — herbs, raspberries in season, whatever else is coming on — and you are welcome to pick from it. Cook with it. That is what it is there for.

THE FIRE PIT AND THE YARD

Gas fire pit, which we light for you remotely — send us a message when you want it going and it will be ready. A Blackstone grill sits beside it. There is a large lawn with a cornhole set and bocce, and outdoor furniture to spread out on.

INSIDE THE COTTAGE

It is a single-level standalone guesthouse with its own private entrance, and it is entirely yours for your stay.

BEDROOM — Queen Sleep Number bed, so you can each set your own side. Room-darkening shades. Mini-split heat and air conditioning.

LIVING ROOM — Queen sofa bed (mattress pad and linens are in the bathroom closet), TV, and a dedicated workspace if you need to put in a few hours. Its own mini-split.

BATHROOM — One full bath, stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hair dryer and the rest.

KITCHEN — A real one, not a kitchenette. Gas stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, air fryer, rice cooker, crock pot, blender, hot water kettle, toaster, baking sheet, full dishes and cookware, wine glasses, basic spices, and a dual coffee maker that does both single cups and a carafe. Coffee is on us. There is a dining table to sit down at.

LAUNDRY — Washer and dryer in the unit, with soap pods provided.

WHAT IS SHARED, AND HOW IT WORKS

We want you to know exactly what you are booking. The cottage itself is private and standalone — nobody comes in but you. The outdoor amenities — pool, hot tub, fire pit, garden and lawn — are shared with the main house on the property, where the family lives.

In practice they are rarely out there, and guests almost always have the space to themselves. If you would like a stretch of guaranteed privacy — the hot tub after dinner, the pool to yourselves in the afternoon — just message us with the times and we will keep it clear for you. We open the pool for you, and we turn on the fire pit for you, but you can use the hot tub on your own any time.

The door to the left of the cottage leads to the owners' locked garage. That is not part of the rental.

WINE COUNTRY WITHOUT THE DRIVING

You are on Summers Circle, a residential loop that measures exactly one mile around. It is low-traffic and quiet, which makes it a genuinely good place to walk in the morning and a better place to get on a bike.

Caprio Cellars, Amavi Cellars and Pepper Bridge Winery are all within a few miles on quiet roads — short, easy rides. Downtown Walla Walla, with its Main Street tasting rooms, restaurants and the farmers market that runs through October, is a 12-minute drive.

GETTING HERE AND GETTING AROUND

You will want a car for the wineries further out in the valley. There is private driveway parking for two vehicles right by the cottage. Both Apple Maps and Google Maps navigate accurately to the address. We do ask that you take the gravel drive at 5 mph, out of respect for our neighbors.

Walla Walla Regional Airport (ALW) is about 15 minutes away. Tri-Cities / Pasco (PSC) is roughly an hour.

If you drive electric: there is a NEMA 14-50 outlet in the gravel parking area behind the cottage. Back in and plug in — you will need to bring your own charging cable, since every vehicle wants a different connector.

ARRIVAL, MADE SIMPLE

Check-in is 4 PM, checkout is 10 AM. Entry is by smart lock — your code comes through at 11 AM on the day you arrive, you punch it in, the door unlocks with an audible click, and that is the whole process. No key handoff, no waiting.

We will message you two days before you arrive to confirm everything and send the details. There is a digital guidebook with the WiFi, the hot tub instructions, and our real local recommendations — where to eat, which tasting rooms to prioritise, what is worth the drive.

If the cottage is free the night after you leave, we will often give you an 11 AM checkout at no charge. Just ask.

A FEW EXTRAS, IF YOU WANT THEM

We can arrange an in-home massage, a private chef, catered meals, or a local wine and celebration package. These are booked through a third party for a fee and they fill up well in advance, so ask early if a birthday or an anniversary is the reason for the trip.

WHY GUESTS KEEP COMING BACK

Every review this cottage has received is five stars — cleanliness, communication, check-in, accuracy, location and value. "The Hydrangea Suite was handily the nicest and best appointed small rental we've experienced in nearly 10 years of renting," one guest wrote.

We host this ourselves, we live on the property, and we are reachable the whole time you are here — without ever being in your way.

Fall Release Weekend and the harvest weekends go first in Walla Walla. If you have been meaning to do this trip, this is the season to do it.

Reserve your dates — and tell us if you would like the fire pit lit when you pull in.

Pool Season: The pool is open May through October and closed November through April. The hot tub is available year-round.

Sleeping for 4: One queen bedroom plus a queen sofa bed in the living room. Ideal for a couple, or a couple with two young children; not ideal for two couples given the layout.

Cancellation Policy: We follow the cancellation policy in place at the time you booked, as shown in your confirmation. If there is any chance you may need to cancel, we recommend purchasing travel insurance at checkout. Refunds are not provided outside the booked policy for weather, illness, or travel disruptions.

Outdoor Cameras: Security cameras are at the entrance to the house for your safety. They may be recording video and audio.

Damage Protection: A damage waiver is included with your cleaning fee and covers any accidental damage during your stay. Intentional damage will be your responsibility. Please let us know of any damage so we can remedy it for our next guests.

Rental Agreement: A link to our rental agreement will be sent to you to sign before you check in. You may also be asked to verify your identity. We use a third party for this through two-factor authentication, and we do not store any of your personal data.

TV & Streaming: We have Roku - feel free to add your own apps. Set your checkout date and you will be logged out of your apps upon departure.

This place is amazing, very well thought out and fully appointed. The owner really did think of everything, from robes for the hot tub to a fully equipped kitchen to a coffee bar and Roku on the 65 inch tv that will delete your sign in information automatically once you check out. We can wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Nice, clean, compact unit with great amenities. Access to hot tub, pool, fire pit and outdoor grill. Nice, quiet neighborhood. Had small issues with TV and A/C split units but host corrected issues quickly. Check in was toilsome but got through all issues with host's quick help. Recommended for 1 or a couple. Small space for more than two.

We had a wonderful stay at Mindi's place. The house, pool, and gardens were beautiful. Our kids loved playing in the pool for hours and viewing the beautiful gardens. The size works perfectly fine for me and my husband and 4 and 6 year old staying on the sleeper sofa. Mindi was an excellent communicator and felt like she truly wanted us to have a wonderful stay. We will definitely try to stay again when in the area in the future.

Just the perfect place for the two us to stay while we visited Walla Walla and the surrounding countryside. Location is in a quiet neighborhood, good for walking and just a short drive to town. It was important to us to have our host greet us upon arrival and Mindi did. The suite itself is furnished with air conditioning, upscale appliances and a sleep number bed. The hot tub is a great place to watch the sunsets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Hydrangea Suite!

We are frequent Walla Walla visitors, usually staying at hotels in town. For this trip we wanted to try something new. The Hydrangea cottage is a small home on the property of the hosts. It is very comfortable and very well appointed with everything you need. It is great for the right people. For our future needs we will stay elsewhere. The house only accommodates 2 people. We needed permission to have a 3rd guest join us to swim. The pool, hot tub, and fire pit are shared with the owners. They have to uncover the pool and light the fire pit for you. This was not an issue for us as they were very accommodating and communication was easy with very quick responses. They have an extensive guidebook that is important to read - for instance the pull out futon/sofa is very uncomfortable to sleep on if you don’t use the mattress pad they recommend. The EV charger is a NEMA 14-50, which most folks don’t have as their portable charger so bring the whole thing from home or plan to trickle charge. They allow wine and beer but no hard alcohol. This was not an issue for us but FYI. The home and grounds are beautiful, but it was about 15 minutes to everywhere we needed to be (town, Whitman, hiking, wineries) so a little too far for us. We prefer to be in walking distance to town. If you need a small, very comfortable and quiet space in a very nice neighborhood a little far from town, this would be an excellent choice.

We stayed four nights at this property. It was immaculately clean and organized, very comfortable and had everything we could have asked for. The kitchen was very well stocked with appliances, utensils, towels, etc. The bed was comfortable as was the furniture in the rest of the cottage. The host was delightful and her communications were timely, clear and useful. We didn't use the pool or hot tub, but everything else about this property was absolutely top notch. We'll certainly book this property again when we visit Walla Walla.
