We all loved staying here. The house was big, comfortable and easy for our large group and the kids enjoyed exploring the hallways. It was the garden though that made our stay so memorable, so tranquil and relaxing and perfect for a magical Easter egg hunt!
Great home with a fabulous garden and outlook. It's not the first time we have stayed here and definitely won't be the last. Thank you to the hosts who made our stay easy and friendly.
This was a beautiful home and beautiful garden. In a quiet location with lake views. I wish we had of stayed longer. We have very fond memories of the time we spent there.
The house is a stunner, one of the best we have spent a weekend in. It was completely overwhelming at its size and that all the amenities were on hand. Thankyou so much to the owners.

We had a wonderful stay. Three generations, 2 couples, 3 children under 12 and 2 singles(Grandparents). The house and the property are beautiful. It is an old house, quirky and charming, and we loved that. The configuration of the bedrooms and bathrooms was a but unusual, but it worked for us.The location is fabulous. We could walk to so may places. The walk along the lake is lovely, We found the splash park on our first walk after we arrived and of course the kids had to have a splash( which was great after driving from Melbourne) The wanted to go to the pool that is just across the park from the house but not all had bathers.Everything needed , bakery, coffee, supermarkets, take away places, Pubs are in easy walking distance The next morning we walked the short distance into town for some supplies. We even found a couple of nice opp shops. Bathers problem solved, along with a charger for my camera and some paper for game score-keeping.The location is also a great home base for day trips like Beechworth, Millawa and wineries.Elizabeth was easy to contact and having the later checkout made organizing to leave much easier, less stressful.

Thanks for staying everyone. What an action packed weekend- nothing makes us happier than seeing people discover our wonderful neighbourhood. Hope to see you all again. Elizabeth
Gorgeous property in a perfect location. Plenty of space for our family gathering, so warm and inviting. Kids loved exploring, even threw a fishing line in practically from the back yard it’s so close. Great big house but still cosy. I could live in the sunroom.
Convenient location walking distance to town, cafes & supermarket. Lovely garden setting with plenty of varied sitting spaces to relax. Sun room superb & open fire place adds great evening ambiance. Great walking path around lake with nearby skate park, bike track, heating pool & local tennis courts nearby.
Great location. Kitchen and dining a bit small for a large group and not really wheelchair friendly. Garden is amazing! Generally, a relaxing and enjoyable stay! We celebrated a 90 th birthday with family and it was lovely! Thanks.
Gorgeous house and garden and spotless throughout! Elizabeth is a lovely and attentive host. The surrounding areas are breathtaking. Highly recommend going to Mount Wombat lookout. Also try The Northo Pub in Benalla for a wonderful meal. Highly recommended this property

Thanks Emma for being great guests. Glad you enjoyed the Northo- they enjoyed hosting you too.
Cannot recommend the lake house highly enough; well maintained garden with areas to play or just sit and chat. Good for large groups as you don’t feel as you are on top of one another. The bedrooms are a good size with everything clean and tidy. The kitchen has plenty of storage and all the kitchen utensils, pots pans, glass ware you could possibly need. You have the lake on you back doorstep.Parkes and sporting oval less than 5 minutes walking distance, shops less than 10. We will definitely be coming back.
This is a great property for a group of friends or larger family. The house is spacious with great garden (and lake) views from most rooms. The open fire really heats the living areas well. We particularly enjoyed the gardens and many different places to sit and enjoy then, either from the from the front verandah, back verandah or in the garden. Perfect spot for idling away a nice afternoon with a glass of wine and chatting with friends. The property is well positioned for a morning walk around the lake or a short walk to the main street for brunch or a browse around the shops. Highly recommended.

Perfection!
The Lake House was the perfect place for my family to use as a home base for my son's wedding in Benalla. With five bedrooms, we all had our own space. In the mornings, we'd have our coffees in the sun room, listening to the birds and gazing out at the beautiful garden. And with the large dining and living areas, we were able to have the bride's family over for a wonderful meal before the big day. Glasses, cutlery, dishes, serving pieces, a large refrigerator . . . we lacked for nothing. As if that wasn't enough, the house is in a wonderful location. We went for strolls around the lake, we found delightful cafes in town, the Art Gallery was just across the water and it was all withing walking distance. Throughout our entire stay, every person in our family and the bride's family kept commenting that we couldn't have chosen a more perfect house for our very special weekend. Elizabeth was a pleasure to work with and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. I can't thank her enough! If I could have given the Lake House ten stars, I gladly would have!

Thank you kindly Susan and thank you for looking after our home so well. Glad we were able to bring your new families together and the house will be part of your collective memory. Happy to see you got out for some walks , the sunroom can be difficult to leave at times. Kind regards Elizabeth
The house is just lovely. Spacious, cozy and well equipped. Great supply of fire wood for the cold nights. Beautiful gardens and a delightful sun room overlooking the pretty trees and flowering bushes.

About the host
Hosted by Elizabeth
We've travelled and lived all over the world and in Melbourne when returning to Australia. We love the seasons , being in the outdoors and going on holidays with friends and families.
Benalla is the gateway to the north east so we know we are always a short drive from something going on in the region. Being only 2 hours easy drive up the highway from Melbourne it was a perfect and easy spot for us to enjoy country life.
Why they chose this property
Lawn tennis courts, outdoor pools, lakes and botanical gardens its all here. Church bells ring and people turn out in droves for festivals or the local football game. Benalla is close to a variety interest areas including the Alps, wineries, rivers and a 2 hour drive to Melbourne. Its history is rich as its the natural surrounds. Its full of surprises and interesting people. There is always something to do for the curious and enough natural beauty to sit back and not do a we mention the great weather (usually)
What makes this property unique
Our home has a significant history and unique location in Benalla.
Situated on Lake Benalla it was once owned by the Ledger family who were major patrons of the town. They are predominately known for donating the largest private collection of art in Australia to the town and contributing to the construction of the Benalla art gallery that houses it. The Ledgers also commissioned Edna Walling to design the garden that exist in almost original form today. Views of the lake and gallery are available and the Edwardian home has been lovingly maintained.
The garden is alive with bird life including various parrots. Water birds including ducks and pelicans can be seen on the lake and the trees are constantly changing with the seasons.
The house has numerous vantage points for viewing the lake and garden including patios, large verandah and custom built sun-room.
This house was built at a time when things were built to last. Double bricked makes climate control a breeze, soaring ceilings, ornate windows and attention to detail throughout. There are signs of art deco craftsmanship throughout the home.
The large inviting living room with open fire, french doors off the dining room to outside patio all add to the charm.
