About this property

Charming Mexican Style Living In The Village; 50 Feet From Lake Chapala

This home is on the market (Mar 2021) for sale so we are not accepting any reservations this far in advance...Casa Tonatiuh is the creation of two local businessmen with a love for the traditional Mexican style. Their design utilizes antique Mexican architectural features like the immense wooden doors that greet you at the street, ornamental iron detailing and hand crafted 'mosaico' floors on the lower lever and beautiful tropical wood floors in both bedrooms. The decorative use of Mexican Talavera tile combined with inlaid antique mesquite wood planks gives a very warm feeling of old Mexico. We do offer special rates for stays 3 months and longer. Please write us for those rates
Even though this is a very new three level Mexican home you will get the feeling you are stepping into the colonial Mexican period.
Casa Tonatiuh (named after the Aztec Sun God) is located in the heart of Ajijic Village just 50 ft. from the Lakefront park. The rooftop terrace includes a wet bar, coffee maker, gas BBQ, TV, Sirius Satellite radio and a rooftop garden planted with organically grown veggies and herbs for your consumption.
Two light airy bedrooms (one with balcony), large living room, fully equipped kitchen, lower level interior patio with fountain, separate laundry and a half bath on ground level.
Tastefully decorated with original Mexican art, quality furniture, excellent beds and bedding. Wi-Fi and cell phone provided. All utilities included.

Fabulous spot in Ajijic
I'm assuming that you already know Ajijic is a great spot, so I'll focus on this house. It's a wonderful place to stay. Two floors plus a rooftop deck - kitchen/dining/living room/toilet on the first, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the second, deck on the third. The house is full of wonderful art and tile work, and has a colonial Spanish feel. The rooftop deck has a grill and a spice garden, enabling us to grill vegetables that we bought at the farmers' market while enjoying the view. The malecon is within very easy walking distance, and makes a great place for an evening stroll. Ajijic's central square is about 4 blocks away and is a wonderful place to dine and watch people. The area can be busy on weekends, as the malecon attracts lots of visitors, but folks are generally well-behaved. As an avid hiker, I found the trails in the mountains above town to be challenging, with tremendous views on top - trailheads are within easy walking distance. The owners are very responsive and hospitable, and had the house cleaned periodically during our stay. All in all, we loved the place!

About the host

Host profile image
Well known Ajijic businessmen Ricardo and Tom built this house over a period of 2 years. Ricardo was born in Guadalajara and Tom is an immigrant to Mexico from San Diego, 32 years ago. They have enjoyed renting homes in Europe and decided to try to offer the same level of comfort they have experienced when they travel to visitors to Ajijic. Tom loves cooking and thus the well equipped kitchen. Ricardo is a certified civil engineer and loves to design and construct, his creative 'touches' are apparent throughout Casa Tonatiuh from the hand made floors on the first level, the artistic talavera tiles in the bathrooms, the tropical hardwood floors in the bedrooms and the one of a kind handrails in the stairs.

Why they chose this property

There is nothing comparable in Ajijic, this close to Lake Chapala, we built this home ourselves to accommodate visitors to Ajijic in a style we live in ourselves. We offer fresh greens on the rooftop, proximity to Ajijic's greatest restaurants, a quiet pedestrian neighborhood, comfortable accommodations in a warm Mexican style. We have tried to think of everything you will need while visiting Ajijic. We have 1 other 'higher-end' home for rent in Ajijic also, write for more information.

What makes this property unique

Wi-Fi, organic salad garden, Ice Maker (purified water throughout the house), Laundry, Sirius Satellite Radio, Mexican cable TV, Satellite TV will be offered in the 2018-19 rental season at an extra charge.
Pick-up or return to Airport included in monthly rentals in 2018-19
