Architect and dreamer Earl Young created a magical world with his unique and eccentric stone cottages in Charlevoix. Half House is absolutely one of the most adorable homes you will ever see! Now you can experience it for yourself. Enjoy the sandy beach, lighthouse and breathtaking sunsets just outside your door. Half House is an easy two block stroll to the quaint village of Charlevoix for shopping, dining, marina, ferry, drawbridge and music in the park.

Everything you will need for a comfortable vacation is included: luxurious cotton bed linens and towels, firewood and kindling, free wireless internet, books, music, Roku smart flatscreen TV with streaming channels and DVD player, kitchenware, beach chairs, plus an endless supply of hot water! Not to mention the spectacular view of majestic Lake Michigan! This cozy two bedroom home accommodates four guests quite comfortably. Relax!

Sorry, no pets allowed. Please note that Half House has no central air conditioning. The earthen stone structure and steady cool breeze blowing in over the cold waters of Lake Michigan keep the home comfortable. We also provide fans in every room.

The property was exactly as described and was as cute as can be! Me and my three girlfriends enjoyed our three nights stay. The location can’t be beat for its proximity to the beach and the charming town of Charlevoix.. It was fun staying in this historical house in this stunning neighborhood. The property was everything it was advertised to be - charming! A very unusual and unique property, it was a wonderful experience staying there for 2 nights. Also, so convenient to walk to downtown Charlevoix restaurants and stores - only a short 2-3 blocks away. Would recommend to anyone that wants to experience a stay in a very iconic and charming property.

Four charming ladies celebrating their best friends 80th birthday! We had an amazing two nights. To be able to stay in one of Earl Young Mushroom houses was a dream come true! The birthday girl said the bed was very comfortable. I’ll be 80 in six months and my sister and I stayed in the secret room upstairs. It was like being in a doll house. Thank you Bill for giving us the opportunity to experience an unforgettable vacation!

Staying at the Half-House (hobbit house) was a wonderful experience! Not only was the architecture by Earl Young amazing, but the owner, Bill Thom, did a great job of decorating it. Everywhere you look, there’s another treasure to be found. Bill also included anything you might need to make your stay comfortable. This is a one-of-a-kind experience! I highly recommend it!

Quirky, comfortable half house. Being right across the street from a beach was great. Being as this house is a landmark there are a lot of cars stopping out front and taking photos. Queen bed was very comfortable, upstairs beds would be great for 2 kids, but not comfortable for 2 adults. Overall I loved it and would rent again!

The house was clean and comfortable. Several cars would go by slowly and take photos. It's very special and it's in a good location in Charlevoix and by Lake Michigan. We enjoyed it.

Why they chose this property

I have been a homeowner in Charlevoix for over twenty five years. I purchased Half House in 2001 and quite frankly, I couldn't believe it was for sale! It is perfectly located directly across from the beach and just two blocks to downtown.

What makes this property unique

I love the quirky eccentricity of this fairytale home. It has so much history and character; thoroughly enchanting! I am pleased to now be able to share it with you.
