Governor's Mansion on the Hudson: Saratoga-Adjacent 11-bedroom Riverfront Estate

Governor’s Mansion on the Hudson! A historic 11-bedroom, 6,900+-sq-ft riverfront estate on 5 private acres with 220 ft of Hudson River frontage. The home of NY Governor John Alden Dix, who built it in 1888, and the famous British Army camp during the American Revolution's Battle of Saratoga, it’s now fully renovated with multiple kitchens, movie theater, karaoke room, riverside kayaks/canoes, trail access, and a British speakeasy with pool and darts—just 20 mins from Saratoga and the racecourse.

Overview:

Governor’s Mansion on the Hudson – 11-BR, 5-Acre Riverside Estate, 20 Mins From Saratoga, 6,900 Square-Feet of Fun

Welcome to one the most legendary houses in New York that we’ve modernized into a one-of-a-kind playground. New York Governor John Alden Dix built this house, which dates to 1888, an 11-bedroom, 6,900+ sq ft riverfront estate set on 5+ private acres with 220 ft of direct Hudson River frontage. This house literally helped birth America: During the American Revolution’s Battle of Saratoga, the British Army, led by General John “Gentleman Johnny” Burgoyne, set up camp here, crossing the Hudson into battle from this property. (Historical markers dot the property.)

Fully renovated, the estate now blends timeless historic character with fully reimagined entertainment spaces designed for large family gatherings, events, corporate retreats, and milestone large group celebrations.

With its mix of stunning architecture, incredible history, direct river access + sunset views, and modern amenities, including a private movie theater room, a karaoke room, various sitting rooms, riverside kayaks and canoes -- and a new British-themed speakeasy, “Gentleman Johnny’s,” complete with British bar, pool table and darts

The 11 bedrooms are spread across six wings, each with its own bathroom and four with a kitchen, allowing for everyone to be together, while also having private areas. Meanwhile, a private pedestrian bridge adjacent to the estate connects our property to the Hudson Crossing Park, and miles of trails and picnic areas (bicycles are included as part of your stay).

And it’s all just 20 minutes from downtown Saratoga and the famous Saratoga racetrack. This is an experience unlike anything else in New York.

The Space: 11 Bedrooms, Endless Gathering Areas & Maximum Privacy

Spread across the main house and the carriage house apartment, the estate now features:

• 11 beautifully appointed bedrooms, ideal for multi-family groups or corporate teams
• Multiple sitting rooms, communal tables, lounges, and historic parlors
• A full movie room with theater seating
• A private library for reading, quiet work, or late-night conversation
• A brand-new karaoke room perfect for celebrations or retreats
• Multiple kitchens and dining options for large catered or self-prepared meals
• A deck/lounge with endless river views
• Riverside dock, including kayaks and canoes.
• Expansive indoor gathering areas that allow guests to spread out while staying connected
Whether you're hosting 10 or 25 guests, the governor’s mansion layout provides both communal spaces and private retreats.

Introducing Gentleman Johnny’s: Your British Underground Speakeasy

Hidden on the lower level, we’re reimagined a British-themed speakeasy—named for General John Burgoyne, brought 30 wagonloads to Champagne to the Battle of Saratoga in 1777—creating the estate’s most unforgettable new feature.

Designed for nights that feel like a getaway within a getaway, Burgoyne’s Speakeasy has 4 parts:
• The River Room -- and incredible "private club" right on the Hudson with incredible views, comfy furniture and nautical antiques.
• The Officer's Club -- the heart of the speakeasy, with a pool table and classic darts, authentic British décor including historic nods, and warm lighting
• The British Pub -- a full, classic bar
• The Poker Lounge -- a beautiful 19th Century octagonal brick turret, turned into a cozy poker room
• A perfect atmosphere for friend-group parties, corporate bonding, or after-wedding celebrations
This is a signature experience guests won’t find anywhere else.

Outdoor Living: Your Own 5-Acre Riverfront Campus

This property sits on a private, park-like estate with:
• 220 feet of private Hudson River shoreline
• Long views of the water, looking west towards sunset
• Dock on water, including canoes and kayaks
• Outdoor lawns perfect for events and games
• Private pedestrian bridge adjacent to the estate connects to the Hudson Crossing Park, and miles of trails and picnic areas and children’s play areas, as well as a working Erie Canal lock and private Hudson River boat tours. Bicycles included as part of your stay.

A Story That Elevates Every Stay

History actually unfolded:

• 1777 — The Revolutionary War
General Burgoyne’s army built the famed Bridge of Boats on these very grounds, crossing the Hudson en route to their defeat at the Battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the Revolution.

• 1880s-1920s— Gilded Age
The estate became home to Governor John Alden Dix, who led landmark workplace fire-safety reforms, and commuted from here to the capital via the Hudson (you can see the ruins of his boathouse).

• 1960s – Elite boarding school
Schuyler Preparatory Academy was an elite all-boys boarding school. The original basketball and tennis courts still rest under the pines today.

Today -- It is reborn as one of New York’s most incredible destinations for gatherings and celebrations.

What makes this property unique

This is one of the most historic houses in New York State. The site of the British Army camp -- and the place they crossed the Hudson during the Battle of Saratoga, which turned the tide of the American Revolution. Then the home of Gilden Age New York Governor John Alden Dix, who built this estate in 1888, then commuted to the governor's office in Albany by boat.

So much of the original beauty here, but we've undergone a complete renovation create every modern convenience and luxury.
