About this property

Gracious 19th Century Country Estate Home Surrounded By Nature And History

Lovely 1898 country estate home located in the historic Keswick area, in walking distance to Castle Hill. Turkey Run Farm is convenient to Charlottesville, but far enough away for amazing peace and quiet, and night skies. Very accessible to Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn, many of the area’s most celebrated vineyards and cideries, the University of Virginia, the historic Charlottesville downtown, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Skyline Parkway. Fantastic views of the Southwest Mountains can be enjoyed from several vantage points, complete with regular sightings of wild turkeys, albino and piebald deer and Bald Eagles. A wonderful, relaxing place to walk and ride bikes, Turkey Run Farm is a gracious and welcoming environment for family reunions, bridal party groups, smaller wedding receptions and company retreats. (There is an event charge for gatherings of greater than 20 guests, and a porta-potty requirement.)
Four private bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and living room with fireplace are located on the main floor, with a stone family room and large farm kitchen in the English basement. Front and rear porches and stone terrace offer exquisite, unsullied views of the Southwest Mountains.
It should be noted here too, that Turkey Run Farm truly is nestled into the embrace of nature. That means that our guests will be experiencing authentic rural life in contrast to an environmentally controlled hotel or in-town dwelling. This also includes some bugs in the summertime. And, like all rural properties in the mid-atlantic region the new bug on the block is the indomitable, but friendly, stinkbug. We seem to have them the worst mostly in the October time frame when they too are seeking a cozy VRBO for a long winter vacation, but a few are with all of us year round these days.

Great weekend away!

We went in a wine weekend and had an amazing time! The farm house is so cute and has so much character. Located on a beautiful property and we all enjoyed sitting out on the porch at night, would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful spot in the blue ridge

We stayed at Turkey Hill Farm for our son’s graduation from UVA. The house was the perfect home base for us and all the grandparents. We took advantage of the gorgeous outdoor space to host a barbecue for the grad and his friends and we were close enough to the UVA grounds to make graduation events easy. The host was very responsive when we had questions and made sure that everything was just right for our stay. We loved staying here!

Thanksgiving Weekend

This property has maintenance and cleaning issues. The kitchen needs to be cleaned. The out of date left over food should be removed from the fridge and the front of the cabinets need to be cleaned. The oven also needs to be cleaned. In the four days we stayed there, the front of one of the kitchen cabinets fell off, missing by inches a bare foot, a chair leg broke in a place it had broken before (you could see the old glue and repairs), the box springs broke on one double bed, and we were down to two lights in the chandelier over the table (replacing light bulbs didn't solve the problem). All of that said, we still enjoyed the location and the access to all the activities in the area.

Beautiful location near vineyards

My family enjoyed our stay in this beautiful historic home perfectly situated near Keswick Vineyard despite the weather adding some complications. There was enough space for 6 adults to relax and enjoy the scenery from the great porches. I recommend confirming pets allowed prior to booking , but this wasn't an issue in the end.

Ladies getaway outside Charlottesville

The owner was very prompt with responses and anticipating our needs. We loved the front porch! I would recommend to arrive in daylight as it is secluded. The property was well kept. The house is from 1899 with large rooms, tall ceilings, and good water pressure. All beds were full or queen. There were some photos of twin beds. Internet was a little slow but had no trouble streaming music. A lovely spot if you're hoping to get away, see stars, and enjoy the company you brought. Of the local options we went to Patch Brewing and BBQ Exchange in Gordonsville and would highly recommend both. Drive from Gordonsville side is paved but there are patches of gravel road coming from the opposite direction.

Family stay for wedding at Castle Hill

The property was as described. The owner was very accommodating and had fresh flowers and some breakfast food in the refrigerator. He also allowed a early check-in and late check-out. When I booked one of the photos had 2 twin beds but the description had the correct beds. My adult daughters were a little disappointed to share a bed. The weather was beautiful and we were able to enjoy the porches and the peaceful surroundings.

Beautiful historic home

The house was comfortable and a great set up for 2 families. The kitchen was well-stocked and we enjoyed a nice meal on the front porch. Richard was very communicative and thoughtful. We mentioned we would use the grill and he set out lighter fluid, charcoal, and grilling utensils. Loved the ground floor kitchen.

Wedding Weekend

We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was a perfect location as it was only minutes away from the our nieces wedding at the Keswick Vineyards. Our host Richard was very accommodating and the house was very comfortable for us. Certainly would stay here again the next time we are in the area.

Peaceful escape from city life!

A group of college girlfriends and I rented Richard's house for a weekend getaway and reunion. It was the perfect location - close to wineries, Castle Hill cidery, and the Keswick Hall spa! The house is beautiful and the owners have thought of every detail. Richard was very communicative and easy to work with. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat and I'd highly recommend this house!

Beautiful home on lovely property overlooking Virginia hills! Great family getaway!

We spent our family Christmas at Turkey Run Farm and it was absolutely wonderful! Richard was kind and thoughtful, even putting up a Christmas tree for us. There was more than enough room to host us all, and we found the beds to be very comfortable ! We enjoyed playing & walking around the property as well as visting the beautiful cider and wine companies in the vicinity. This is a perfect spot for a happy Virgina holiday.

Beautiful and peaceful

Our stay was lovely. The house and property are so beautiful. We heard that turkeys but didn't manage to see any. It was a great location for us to be away from it all but not too far from all the area has to offer. The directions provided by the host were very helpful.

This is a beautiful farm.

The beauty of this region of Charlottesville is breathtaking and this farm is no exception. The home is beautifully furnished and equipped with so many thoughtful touches. Richard is such an accommodating host. There was an emerging problem with the stink bugs that plaque Charlottesville. He was fully disclosing of the possibility that they could be present as they are at this time of year and offered an adjustment of price to accommodate any inconvenience they may cause us. He was so concerned about our well-being and so transparent about the home and farm. We couldn't have asked for anything more from a host. And by the way, the bugs were very manageable and caused us no undue concern. We will return on our visits to Charlottesville with our family and for a longer stay so that we can see the wild turkeys and albino dear.

A wonderful retreat!

This was the perfect place to host our family getaway. It offered peace and quiet with beautiful scenery. It was exactly what we needed. The owner went above and beyond to be helpful and accommodating from providing food and activity recommendations to mailing an item to us that we accidentally left behind. Bonus: this location is close to some great wineries and cideries!

Quiet escape with a beautiful view!

My family of 5 plus my Mom just stayed at this home. We had a wonderful time. The area is absolutely beautiful and it is a nice drive into Charlottesville (20-30 min) where there is a ton to do and see (and great restaurants - two of our favs were Citizen Burger and Maya (southern cooking). The home is also close pretty close (again 30 or less) to Monticello, Montpelier, and Ash Highlawn (President homes) and they are all worth seeing! Plus there are places to go to hike as well as a bunch of wineries to visit. We also spent one morning horseback riding at Oakland Heights Farm (about 20 min away). The house is an older home that certainly needs some work, but the inside is quaint, super clean, and very welcoming. The beds were super comfortable and the kitchen was spacious and well stocked. The view from the front porch was everything you would want a view to be! I will miss having my morning coffee on that porch with that view. So peaceful! And the owner was wonderful to work with...very helpful and accommodating! If we ever visit the area again, we would absolutely stay at this property again.

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting!

We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer! Many positives about this house: beautifully decorated, very clean, all beds are comfy, all appliances work, kitchen is large and very well stocked, heat and air work great, plenty of hot water, several comfortable seating areas with two living rooms, two porches, a deck and a patio. This house would easily work for 6 adults - maybe 8. Only two bathrooms and one is small - but they work just fine. It sits on a hill and the views are amazing. Complete privacy and very quiet - can't see any other houses from here. We took a lovely walk - just over a mile - to the nearby cider pub. Great fun. Location is great - in the middle of horse country - rolling green hills everywhere! (Go to Restaurant Pomme in Gordonsville - French food - it's fabulous!) It is a 25 minute drive to Montpelier (James Madison home - highly recommended) or a 20 minute drive to Monticello. Owner is very responsive. This house looks every bit as good as the pictures - maybe better! We will definitely return someday!

A Wonderful Stay and Enjoyable Time at Turkey Run

We were in town for a week for our son to have surgery at UVA and wanted a nice, secluded place to stay while still being near Charlottesville. We have an 8, 5, 3, and 2 year old, and our parents also came to help out. The home comfortably fit all of us. It is a very neat, rustic farmhouse with a nice charm to it. Driving in and out of this area is beautiful with many large horse farms and history. Deborah was very helpful with any questions we had throughout our stay and does a great job to make sure that everything is taken care of for you. We will be sure to stay at Turkey Run again anytime we come back to the area.

Beautiful country home near Charlottesville, VA

The house is very comfortable. It has four bedrooms upstairs and a large country kitchen, family room and dining area on the lower level. The house was very clean and the owner met us with the key when we checked in. We had 8 adults and the house worked very well. An extra 1/2 bath would have made it perfect but it was great as it was. Although it is a few miles out of town there is a cidery and a several wineries very near by and it was easy to get in and out of town even on UVA's graduation day. There are beautiful views of the mountains and a large yard with patio and decks to enjoy the outdoors. If you like to be outside of the hustle and bustle and in a peaceful and calm environment with all of the amenities within a short drive, this is the place for you! I would recommend to friends and family.

We chose this farmhouse outside of Keswick Virginia to stay while visiting our son at Woodberry Forest School. It was lovely for walking, sitting on the porch, and grilling steaks with our son and some friends. The boys had a great time being off campus, and enjoying the surroundings. We will be back!

Where on earth could there be a more perfect place to spend Thanksgiving than Turkey Run Farm?

And NOT just because of the name or the turkeys...but because of the absolutely amazing countryside, the lovely old farm home and the gracious hostess! Thanksgiving is special for our family and we are always together as much as we can for this holiday week. This year, however, 2 of our children were in the northeast at different universities, and would have very little time for a trip to Florida. So we began the search for a place large enough for all of us to meet and spend the week together in the area! We could not have found a more perfect place than Turkey Run Farm! The grounds are beautiful and inspiring! Rolling hills and a view of the mountain are a feast for anyone's eyes! It is SO peaceful! Quiet with just lovely sounds from the neighboring creatures! And one morning we awoke to sounds of THE HUNT! What fun to sit outside on the screened porch with coffee and a yummy breakfast to watch a couple of excited hounds racing through the open fields! AND to hear all the other dogs high up the mountain! The house itself was exactly what we were looking for! I believe that the pictures do not tell the whole story! The kitchen is BIG and very easy for many people to move around in! Our family loves eating out...but we had decided that this trip we would each be responsible for certain meals and treats! What fun we all had taking turns cooking...and no one was ever in the kitchen alone! Plenty of room for everyone and everything! Deborah even made sure we had a Crock Pot for a special dish my daughter was preparing! Lots of chairs for dining! Our beds were comfortable! The bathrooms just fine! Plenty of all the 'necessities' in every room! We visited a winery and a cidery.....but other than that everyone just wanted to stay AT THE FARM and visit and enjoy this lovely home and acreage! Thank you SO MUCH, Deborah, for all that YOU did to help make this holiday memory for our family!
