Lakeside comfort

A stay at Winter Haven is a guaranteed wonderful time. The quiet location assures a restful experience. The view from the front door to the lake is gorgeous. The house lacks nothing. The kitchen has everything anyone needs to prepare meals. It is large enough to accommodate several cooks. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. There are plenty of sleeping possibilities with pull out beds, bunk beds, convertible beds, queen size beds, and pack'n play beds. The resort is set up to be quiet for all guests. There is a playground for children that includes a swingset with slide and it is in the shade! There is playground equipment for bigger kids too, including disc golf and bean bag toss. Of course there is the lake and all that a Minnesota lake has to offer. The resort has kayaks and paddle boats for the guests to use.The resort has a sandbox area and fire pit area at the shore. Its obvious that the Winters are a family loving family. The Winters have thought of everything a family would want to have to make their vacation great. I recommend this vacation resort for any family that wants a comfortable home away from home.

Family time is the best time

From babies, teenagers to adults there was plenty for everyone... Sand & toys for the littles, tons of water toys and outside games for the teens & adults. Lots of space & bathrooms for all 12 of us and the extra fridge was a huge bonus. There wasnt ever a time that we needed something that was not in our cabin. The property owners were just a text, call or walk away

Perfect location for our family vacation.

Peggy and Dave are great hosts-welcoming and intent on our family enjoying the accommodations. The house, deck, lawn, sandbox, dock, and paddle boat provide everyone with many enjoyable moments and memories. We watched the loons, pelicans, eagles and glorious sunsets. Perfect setting for a private family vacation.

Nice spacious home!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here! Peggy was very welcoming and provided guidance on everything we needed. There was enough room for all 15 of us! We enjoyed access to the canoe, kayaks, paddle boat and floating dock. Having our own private dock was great for us to tie up our fishing boat and ski boat. We spent a lot of time outside playing games in the yard. There was never a dull moment for any of us. We ranged from ages 7 to 73. The only reason why I am giving it a four star rating is because of the sunroom being a bit uncomfortable for my brother and his wife to sleep in. The owners provided fans which was nice but still a bit warm. peaceful place to be

A little piece of heaven on earth!! Everything was wonderful except the mosquitos at night but then we just moved indoors. So quite (except us), wonderful lake for fishing and swimming, plenty of space for everyone to be together or alone. Dave and Peggy are wonderful they were their to answer questions but NEVER coming over to check on us. Only problem is we have to wait A WHOLE YEAR for our next time at Winterhaven Resort!!! Great Family Reunion Week

Our family gathered at this location from 10 different states and 1 foreign country to celebrate our MN roots. We not only rented this lovely home but also 2 cabins that are also located on the property. It was perfect for the total of 18 adults and 6 children that came!! The privacy and quietness of this rental was just what we were looking for. The house is lovely and the grounds and lake offered a variety of activities for all ages, i.e. kayaks, paddleboat, canoe, lawn and indoor games, and camp fires. The lower level of the house provided a great family gathering place each evening. The owner is a lovely hostess and wonderful to work with. The birdwatching professional in our group saw over 60 species. It is a typical MN lake with rocks and days with more green in the lake than others but a movable swimming dock gave better options for swimming and lake activities. Everyone said they would definitely return!!

Comfortable and accommodating

We hauled up 13 people ranging in age from 5 months to 65 years and there was plenty of sleeping space, dining room and shower/bathrooms for everybody. You can't find nicer hosts (even a pontoon boat ride) and the dock fishing was suburb. It kept 8 kids and a few adults not only occupied, but enthused, the whole week we were there. Crappies, small mouth bass, large mouth bass, and sunfish all right from the dock. The house seemed much more like a home than a cabin..but a home that features loons calling at night, pelicans sailing overhead and eagles gliding over the lake. Everybody was impressed on well the place was kept up. The only sad part was we had to leave to come home. The kids would have stayed forever. We were 10 minutes from town for supplies and and a half hour to Alexandria if you ever needed to have a wider variety of eating spots. We went out only twice in a week because it was just easier to cook at the house. We'd like to restate how friendly the hosts are. They live right across the yard and you won't find friendlier people. As the owner stated, if you want wi-fi and hayrides, this isn't the place. If you want a fun family place with kids fishing, a small playground, lots of wildlife, two TVs with DVD players and a chance to really unplug, this is the spot for you.

This was a PERFECT place for our family vacation. Something for everyone.

We are planning to repeat. Everyone in our group enjoyed the yard space, the lake, the sandbox. There was something for everyone in our group--toddlers, teenagers and adults. We liked that the lake was almost private--young ones got to try their hand at skiing without fear of other boats coming around the corner and creating extra wakes. Fun, fun, fun. Looking forward to next year.

Great place to stay! Especially if you have a large group of people. Lots of space!

We totally enjoyed our stay here! The house provided lots of space for our family. We were about 20 all together, but some were coming and going during the week so it worked out great! We felt we had our own private beach area and also the lake. The lake is a fairly small lake and did not have a lot of traffic on it. We had brought 3 jet skis and a boat. For the most part, we didn't have to worry about other people on the lake. Our family had an awesome time running the jet skis all over the lake. The house was well provided with dishes, 2 refrigerators, dishwasher, indoor games and lawn chairs. You will need to get your own ice as the fridges do not make ice. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you to the Winter's!

Relaxing and private

We loved our stay at this cabin. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. The place was private and it often felt like we were the only family on the lake. The cabin was very clean and well kept. There was plenty of room indoors and outdoors for our large group. I would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Nice place out of the way, but communication can be better.

The place lives up to it's billing. The owners are friendly and hospitable. Clean, comfortable, furnished well; but no WiFi which is not a big deal. It is near a couple of small towns that provide services we were looking for, other than going in to Alexandria 30 minutes away for more full services. Canoe, paddle boat, and kayak were provided. Bonfire at night was awesome. Loons on the lake were entertaining. A bald eagle provided morning entertainment. We rented a pontoon boat for a few days and it was convenient. The only advice we feel is needed is a checklist by the owners to follow and make sure it is in the condition they expect it to be upon leaving. Even a walk through with them if they are available at the most, but a checklist would go a long way to avoiding miscommunication . We were given notes on how to specifically make the ceiling fan work as it had it's own problem. There was likely a misunderstanding and lack of communication on how clean the place should be left; and that the cleaning supplies there could be used by us. The damage deposit apparently is tied in to cleaning the place for the next guests. Aside from that it was the only wrinkle and we are very likely to return.

We had a great time being together at the cabin. It was very comfortable and the owners were very nice and accommodating. The location was close to the event we were attending and very peaceful. Thank you for the great weekend. We hope to rent it again in the future.

Quiet get away

We loved our get together. Peggy was a great host, showing us around. We were the very first to rent this property. The lake view was terrific. The loons sang to us every evening. I would recommend this property for family reunions, girls get away and guys fishing trip.
