About the host
Hosted by bruce hazen
I’m a longtime Gainesville local who enjoys restoring historic properties and creating comfortable, well-designed spaces for travelers, families, and professionals. I love the character of the Duck Pond neighborhood and enjoy sharing local favorites, parks, restaurants, and downtown spots with guests. My goal is to provide a clean, relaxing, thoughtfully equipped home that feels welcoming whether you’re here for work, UF events, medical visits, or a weekend getaway.
Why they chose this property
The Duck Pond neighborhood is one of Gainesville’s most unique and walkable historic areas. I love the tree-lined streets, historic homes, and proximity to downtown, the Thomas Center, and Tom Petty Park with pickleball, tennis, trails, baseball fields, and a dog park. It offers a peaceful residential feel while still being minutes from UF, restaurants, nightlife, and local events.
What makes this property unique
This historic Duck Pond home was thoughtfully restored to preserve its original character while adding modern comfort. Original kitchen cabinetry was repurposed throughout the home, including custom bathroom details featuring a Rejuvenation Hardware metal post office vanity and the home’s original sink. The walk-in shower was created from the former exterior laundry room, while the back patios were built using recycled old-city bricks and portions of the original cast-iron tub. Many original architectural details remain, including the swinging kitchen door. The home once belonged to the Zetrieror family, longtime North Florida landowners, and Mr. Zetrieror, a University of Florida professor connected to early Doppler radar development. Every renovation decision was made to preserve the historic fabric and story of the property.
