About this property

Dog-Friendly Cabin w/ Ocean View, Private Hot Tub & BBQ near the Lodge

Summary:

Morning fog lifts to reveal blue Pacific horizons -- this is ocean-view living at its best. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. Bring your pup -- dogs love the bluff trails here. Room for 4 in this 0-bedroom home. A short walk from the Sea Ranch Lodge. Miles of bluff-top trails and hidden beaches are yours to explore. Whale spouts on the horizon, hawks riding the updrafts -- nature puts on a show from every window.

The Space:

Nestled at the edge of the Redwood forest with a view of the ocean through the trees, you'll enjoy a peaceful rest in the heart of The Sea Ranch. The home has kept its character intact, with original redwood finishes and efficient cabin layout. Spend your morning sipping coffee, gazing at the blue-water ocean view and listening to the forest come alive. Start with an early morning hot tub or breakfast on the deck. Cabin 55 features a full kitchen with a dishwasher and outdoor propane grill custom outfitted for those who love to cook. The hot tub on the deck is made for two. This is the perfect place for a couple to kick back and enjoy all that The Sea Ranch, the coastal mountains and the Northern California coast have to offer. The Walk-In Cabin neighborhood is so quiet and private it only takes moments to realize all you can hear is the ocean, the wind in the redwoods, songbirds and an occasional turkey.

The Walk-In Cabins sit close to hiking trails, the Ohlsen Recreation Center, Stengel Beach, and The Sea Ranch Golf Links, but are private and serenely scattered in the Redwoods. Truly the epitome of “Living with the Land'. More outdoor and cultural activities can be found south and north of The Sea Ranch along the coast, such as the Arena Theater, the B Bryan Wildlife Preserve, Fort Ross State Historic Park, and Point Arena Light House. Gualala offers groceries, art galleries, and restaurants. With over Sea Ranch's 50 miles of trails, guests can hike deep into the redwoods, out along the bluff overlooking the ocean, or picnic at the hot spot on the Gualala River. Enjoy a round of golf at the Scottish style, 18-hole course, or a tennis match at one of six courts. For families with children, the Children’s Environmental Play Park offers a wide range of activities. With access to all three shared recreation centers, you can relax in the pools, use the saunas, play basketball, pickleball or volleyball. Guests with a dog will want to check out the dog park on Deerfield Rd. It has a large fenced-in area covered in wood chips, with plenty of toys, water, and shade to share a wild run and romp! Mind the 6’ leash law elsewhere on the Ranch. You’re sure to meet many friendly local dog owners.

This home welcomes up to 1 dog -- the yard and nearby trails are ready for your pup. Street parking is available. Detailed check-in instructions, including the door code, will be provided prior to your arrival. As a guest, you also have access to Sea Ranch community amenities including the pools, tennis courts, fitness center, and miles of trails. A recreation pass will be provided.

The Neighborhood:

Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (a short 4-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (7-minute walk), Black Point headland trails (2-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. Stock up in Gualala, just 10 minutes south, where you'll find grocery stores, restaurants, a hardware store, and gas. Bodega Bay is a beautiful drive for fresh seafood.

Getting Around:

Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.

Other Things to Note:

Parking allowed in front of the cabin for loading and unloading Long-term parking located a short walk down the road

Children under eight not recommended (bunk beds over the stairs) High-speed Wi-Fi provided allows you to stream your favorite shows and movies on your laptop or the 42” Smart TV.

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.

Up to 1 dog are welcome. Please keep dogs on leash on trails and clean up after them.

Great Cozy Retreat!

Cabin 55 was clean and very comfortable, with a nice slice of pacific view and fantastic setting. The ‘walk in’ cabins at Sea Ranch are unique in design and location; literally in a beautiful redwood forest! These cabins and Sea Ranch never disappoint!

we found mouse droppings under the sink and in the food dishes. it was reported to vacasa but so far have not had any significant communication from them. we had to inspect constantly, wash all dishes and surfaces before use and it totally spoilt our stay in the cabin. a mouse was seen in the bathroom whilst in there, and in the living room. we are requesting a refund of one nights fees. please advise. we will be reviewing our stay in this cabin which is a health and safety hazard. we do not appreciate being told that mice are commonplace; we have stayed at sea ranch in multiple cabins and this is the first time to experience this.

My cup runneth over

Cabin 55 never disappoints! I say this every year and I’ll keep saying it until I land one of these cabins…anytime the owner gets tired of this property, I’d love to take it over! Fully equipped and well kept as always.

A Magical Cabin

The cabin is so cozy and perfect for a couple or a family with 2 children. The skylight over the master bed is incredible because through it you can see the stars at night and the pine tree tops in the day. The recreation centers are great! We went lap swimming in the pool at Del Mar and really enjoyed our swim in the warm water. Our whole experience was absolutely perfect!

Beautiful, simple cabin.

We loved the cabin and the hot tub was great. Sleeping under the skylights was special! We would have appreciated the parking pass being left in the cabin for us - so as not to have had to drive to Gualala and back for that after what was already a long drive. And the cabin was 46 degrees F when we arrived! The gas fireplace is lovely but took nearly 6 hours to get us up above 60…. I would recommend during cold weather having the thermostat preset to at least 62 so as to avoid this issue for incoming guests.

Our stay

We very much enjoyed our stay at cabin 55! This was our first time in Sea Ranch and were taken away by the landscape. The house is nestled into the woods (not on the ocean side, but very close) and accommodated the two of us very well. The house was clean, apart from some dirty dishes (which we noticed a previous review had mentioned as well). The only call out is that the home we stayed in appeared slightly different than the images shown. The kitchen was blue, not green, and the layout of the house/some of the furniture was different. Unclear if the photos had just been taken a while ago and updates had been made, or if it was another property altogether. Regardless, we very much enjoyed and recommend this stay if you’re a small group looking to stay in the heart of SR!

Dream Vacation Cabin

For our 3-day retreat, we wanted something in a quiet location, surrounded by trees, but not be too far from the ocean lest we get creeped out at night, and this cabin really fulfilled that wish. It was in a great location from Gualala, where we could pick up necessities, but it also has a really well-stocked kitchen with equipment (pots, pans, utensils, cooking tools, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, etc.), even bowls and an eating area for our dog, and everything was well-labeled. We were pleasantly surprised to find baking ingredients, and if we had stayed a bit longer, we would have loved to take advantage. We did use the grill, which worked great, the parking and trash situation was totally fine, there wasn't much trouble with loading and unloading. The bed was very comfortable, the skylight was lovely, the bathroom had all the needed amenities including a hair dryer, the cleaning pantry was stocked well so we could keep things tidy, the fireplace was so cozy, and the hot water came fast. All in all, we couldn't ask for more. I hope we will be back soon to enjoy this architecturally beautiful, well-designed cabin, and cozy space, and continue to explore the lovely Sea Ranch area and everything it has to offer for its community and visitors.

Rip Off

For a unit that cost this much and has so many strict rules/guidelines, we expected to show up to a perfect unit. We're okay with not so perfect, but this was totally unacceptable. Especially for our anniversary weekend. Don't waste your time with the gas furnace. Use the one behind the living room chair by the kitchen.A major deep clean was needed. We were super uncomfortable during our stay. Some issues include: Musty/pet smell. There was dust hanging from walls, large cobwebs and dust in the skylight above the the bed, the bedding had a clump of dust and hair in addition to traces of animal hair. The linens in the linen shelf were also a mixed bag of cleanliness. There was CHEWED GUM on the linen shelf. DISGUSTING. The bathroom towels seemed new but never washed so they were shedding on us. There's no washer/dryer in the unit, so we couldn't fix these issues ourselves. The showerhead was grimy and had build up and the shower door track was disgusting. The kitchen items we used had to be cleaned before use. The lamps in the living room have a button on the head to turn on, and the lamp heads were also grimy to the touch. The living room throw blankets were unwashed, smelly, and had hair on/in them. The bathroom window was left open so it was freezing and took forever to warm up.The hot tub was nice. The view was nice, and the cabin felt more secluded than the properties in Sea Ranch that are on the west side of the main road. BIPOC beware of Sea Ranch facilities staff

Beautiful cabin in the woods with ocean view

I love Cabin 55 and have stayed there multiple times in the last 5 years. It's nicely furnished with a well-stocked kitchen, and tons of big windows and skylights with views onto the surrounding trees (and, from one side, a view of the ocean). Two things I noticed on this stay vs. past stays at Cabin 55: 1.) the bed is no longer as comfortable. (It looks like the mattress pad is gone?) 2.) The motor on the hot tub was running almost constantly, and was VERY loud--maybe not something that would be noticeable in the city, but quite noticeable in the forest, especially at night. There were no instructions for turning off or adjusting the hot tub (which we actually never even used), and I don't recall this from past visits--maybe the temperature isn't usually turned up so high? The jets were not running; this seemed like the heater and/or filter.

Historic charm and comfort

This historic walk-in Sea Ranch cabin provided just the respite we so needed from a rushed urban life. The beauty of the redwoods and the secluded surroundings were just what we needed to calm down and recharge. The cabin is thoughtfully appointed to preserve the rustic elegance and historic charm. We hope to return for a longer visit!

A few issues, but a nice place and great location

The cabin was located in the redwoods, away from the strong winds. While there was a limited distant sea view, we were in the quiet woods and not exposed to the heavy winds (we were there last week of April 2022). The kitchen is well-appointed with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, and there is a dishwasher too. However, I spent about 4 hours SCRUBBING all the dishes, utensils and pots and pans that I planned to use because there were dried bits of food on everything and very visible fingerprints on the dishes and glassware. There were plenty more that also needed scrubbing, but I was not about to do that on my vacation. I am not a clean freak, but this was on the disgusting side. I informed management of this, and few other issues that we encountered and hopefully all will be rectified before you rent. It was great to have a king bed, but the mattress is VERY firm. The 2 bunk bed mattresses are firm too. If you don't like or find firm mattresses conducive to your comfort, don't rent this cabin. That being said, they provided plenty of pillows and blankets to one's liking. This is also a pet-friendly unit and our little dog just loved the place. Be aware that the wood steps up to the sleeping loft are very slick. If you are not very sure of your balance, I would recommend renting a different place. The bathroom was clean, water for the shower hot and well-supplied with toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, soap and even a tick remover, which, thankfully, we did not need to use despite all the hiking we did while we were there. There was also a towel warmer, which was a pleasant surprise. The best bonus of renting in Sea Ranch is that you get access to the locals' hiking trails and their parking lots as well as access to their community centers that have gyms, a sauna and pool (you have to make a reservation, first). We will rent in Sea Ranch again, as we had such a fabulous time. Hopefully the issues we raised with Vacasa will be not only corrected for this particular place, but across all the properties they manage.
