Create a perfect getaway at our Scandinavian Hygge style lakefront cabin.
This unique home sits on a private lake, close to many tourism lakes & towns, restaurants and activities in the area; including Phelps Mill Park about a half mile away!
Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast or enjoy adventuring around the town, there is no lack of things for you to explore!
This home boasts incredible stargazing, loons, eagles, fishing/ice fishing, a fire pit, grill, outdoor dining & serene sunset views from your lake access. The space is adorable and comfortable, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure.
Whether you're unwinding inside or stepping out to soak in the calm surroundings, we invite you to your wonderful lake escape!
This property boasts a low light experience that provides spectacular star gazing over a pristine lake, doubling your view of the stars.
This property is set up with lots of outdoor amenities, such as a rustic outdoor dining area, a fire pit overlooking the lake, grills, waterfront access and plenty of yard space for games.
Inside of this newly renovated cabin is a cozy, open-plan kitchen, dining area and living space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake and sunset in the evening.
The kitchen provides a combo convection oven microwave, coffee maker, 2-burner cooktop and a chilled filtered water filter in the fridge.
Being a country lakeside home, we recommend coming with your preference of bug spray, because as much as we clean and remove them from inside the house before your arrival, bugs are part of nature and unavoidable. We provide a few swatters to help in case they come in when you do!
Our water is a filtered well water, perfectly safe for consumption, but it does stain appliances no matter how much we clean. The water filter is a great addition for further filtering the water for drinking.
Our home is close to lots of restaurants and public lakes/boat docks/swimming in Ottertail lake, Battle Lake, Rose Lake, Fergus Falls and much more! We are lakes country after all!
There are a number of sports equipment rentals nearby for adventures during your stay; kayaks and other equipment must be rented and brought to the lake for your use.
About a half mile away is the beautiful Phelps Mill Park, which just got a $5 million renovation budget for expansion of this state park!
Phelps Mill Park includes a play area/equipment for children, free Wi-Fi, covered seating areas that are rentable for parties, year-round restrooms, fishing docks, kayak ports, swimming and a lovely backdrop to enjoy the day with.
Hiking and biking trails galore at the many state parks within driving distance!
We provide a guest book with maps and recommendations, also including previous guest's suggestions.

The cabin was absolutely beautiful and had all the amenities we needed to keep our family comfortable and having fun. Astrid was great and very communicative, making it an easy, great stay.
This is a great property. It has a lovely setting, artful design inside, very clean and comfortable. The only item my daughter mentioned was a need for blackout curtains for those who would want to sleep in!
This was the PERFECT spot for a weekend getaway! We came with a group of friends and very much enjoyed our cozy stay in this cabin. We especially loved the peaceful view of the lake, the unique design touches in the house including real birch tree accents and vintage cabinets, and the fire pit outside. The place was clean and well maintained and we all slept like babies. The host was also wonderful, very responsive and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again!
My husband and I really decompressed and thoroughly relaxed during our quiet stay at the “Bee cabin.” We watched a pair of Trumpeter swans fly over and several loons on the lake. We enjoyed the easy access to the water. The cabin itself has a panoramic view of the water through huge lakeside windows. The absence of house lights on this private lake was absolutely wonderful, you can actually see the moon and stars above! This clean colorful cabin has an eclectic mix of furnishings and a Scandinavian tone including natural birchwood accents. We enjoyed the thoughtful touches that Astred has provided, like the heated towel bar, excellent coffee and a really nice walk-in shower with “very soft” water. The cabin is within walking distance of Phelps Mill, a historic dam & old flour mill, which was fun to explore for a few hours. We would definitely stay at the Hygee Bee Cabin again for a “disconnect from it all” weekend! Thank you Astred!
We loved the location by the lake, and especially hearing the loons in the evening.Everything was set up and ready for us and Astred responded quickly to all our questions. The welcome book was helpful, and so were the labels throughout the house.

About the host
Hosted by Astred Griffin
Well, howdy there! I am Astred: a chef, singer, Sommelier and restaurant entrepreneur--- I have cooked in restaurants all over the world and sang in just as many places.
I consider myself a clean, organized, communicative, artistic human and looooove good food, wine, beer, hiking, stargazing, swimming...
I always vote for being outdoors and having adventures. Hiking? Grab my backpack. Karaoke? Count me in. Caving? Grab my head lamp! Gardening? Let's get dirty and help things grow.
I very much also enjoy quiet days where I can process and listen to vinyls by my lonesome.
When traveling, having a "second home" to stay in really does make the trip. A comfy, safe place to process the day and it's adventures in before starting the new day ahead....
Golden rule: leave a place better then when you arrived in it.
Travel well, stay well, eat well, live well!
Why they chose this property
This property belongs to my grandmother. It is her favorite spot in the world, so initially we built this for her and family to spend time together.
A spot for family to recharge, watch the sunset, connect, kayak, listen to birds, dance and celebrate life.
We have spent so many nights listening to my uncle play accordion by the fireside as the stars shine above and family sings. The quiet comfort that we have here holds dear to all of us.
Then, to make sure family could have it for future generations, we decided to share our space with you!
What makes this property unique
The cabin holds so much beauty; the loons calling, eagles, sandhill cranes, beaver, turkeys, fishing right outside the door, the stars that shine and reflect on a perfectly still private lake making the sky twice and big. Waking up to sunshine beaming off the lake or fog rolling onto the shore.
Being a small, private lake means the space is calm quiet and ours.
