Miscellaneous: The historic old town of Eutin includes the market square with St. Michael’s Church, the castle grounds with their English landscape garden, many half-timbered houses, an old mill, and the water tower.
The weekly market takes place on the market square every Wednesday and Saturday. Even on other days, this is a popular meeting place for young and old alike. It’s just a few steps from the centre to Lake Großer Eutiner See. A walk around the lake, through the large parks, and in the adjacent wooded area is worthwhile in every season. The beautiful trails are also popular with cyclists and joggers.
Numerous cultural events take place in Eutin and the surrounding area, especially during the summer months. The Bluesfest, the Eutin Festival, and the concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival are known far beyond the state’s borders. The Ostholstein Museum features rotating exhibitions.
Surrounded by Holstein Switzerland with its numerous lakes, forests, and rolling hills, Eutin offers many recreational opportunities such as swimming, biking, hiking, fishing, and paddling. Nature lovers will also be delighted, as the diverse landscape is home to numerous animal species—some of which have become rare—such as the kingfisher, white-tailed eagle, crane, otter, bat, and tree frog.
The proximity to the Baltic Sea is another plus for our small town, as the sea offers pure relaxation!
