About this property

The Chapel

The Chapel Room features a plush king bed and a storied past, perfect for heritage lovers and coastal explorers. Once the most sought-after room in the building, it hosted wives of Union Lumber Company executives and mothers welcoming new life. Today it blends history with modern comforts, including an updated bathroom, in-room coffee, and windows with peeks of the Mendocino coast and views of Main Street - creating a peaceful space for rest and renewal.

This second-floor room is accessible by stairs only, as the property’s historic character does not include elevator access. Please note: this is a pet-friendly room.

We booked the chapel room for a weekend trip to try the rail bikes. Location is perfect and in walking distance to high rail bikes and Glass Beach (just a bit further). I was expecting character based on listing which was accurate. Check in is slow as there was only one person handling check in and issues. The updates are in progress so it does need work. Nice history, had no idea it was a hospital in the past. Interesting! Note - it is SO quiet, we felt we had to tiptoe to our room. That said, room was cute (small) and clean. Bed was ok for a weekend and bedding was super cozy. No outlets next to bed, must plug in phone across the room. Our biggest issue and reason for reducing stars was the odor, it was awful. It smelled as though smokers had inhabited the space for decades and the walls were painted to mask it. We had to keep the window open the entire time, sadly only 1 of 3 actually opened. The shower could use a better curtain to keep water from pooling on the floor. Lastly, the internet was hit or miss. If you expect to unwind after a long day of adventure, TV is not an option. In the current state, the room is overpriced. Thankfully we booked here for almost half the cost. We would have been upset had we paid full price. This boutique has potential, give it time.

This is a cute hotel with charm. It is currently being remodeled we did not hear any noise. They have done a great job blending its history as a Hospital now turned hotel. It is only a few blocks from the skunk train and glass beach. There are numeras restaurants nearby. Try the mushroom Ice cream at Cowlicks and the fish and chips at Sea Pal cove restaurant.
