About this property

Restored 1700s Farmhouse with Pool Overlooking Horse Pasture

Our c. 1700s stone farmhouse with a separate poolhouse studio offers a private and peaceful countryside retreat just over an hour's drive from Baltimore or D.C.

Nearby activities (within 5 to 10 minutes) include: Antietam National Battlefield, float down the Potomac River, hike the C&O Canal Trail, dine and shop in quaint little Shepherdstown, WV, visit local vineyards & breweries, and antique shops such as a day trip to Lucketts, VA.

Long Sought Farm is your private country getaway. Old meets new in this historic farmhouse. Recently renovated — original wood floors and stone walls, antique decor and furnishings are married with modern bathrooms, a dream kitchen with a huge wood-burning fireplace and gas range, and a plush Pottery-Barn-style family room to gather all your favorite people.

A great night's sleep is important... so three roomy king size beds await you, along with one queen, two XL singles, plus a double sleeper in the library and a queen sleeper in the private poolhouse (both with new 4" foam mattresses). Our cozy, luxury bed and bath linens and pillows afford you well-deserved R&R.

OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING:

The farmhouse sits on 15 acres with a lovely view of the horse pasture and pool from the large brick patio. An outdoor dining set accommodates 8 — folding tables and chairs are also readily available. Prepare family dinner on the oversize Weber Summit gas grill and enjoy the beautiful sunset and twinkling cafe lights as you share meals and conversation. Later into the evening, the clear night sky offers beautiful stargazing and a great backdrop for a bonfire in the SoloStove.

After a cannonball contest in the 10' deep end, enjoy your lunch on the pool patio. A full kitchen and refrigerator as well as pool-safe drinkware are at your disposal in the poolhouse. The automatic citrus juicer is ready for your mimosas, orange crushes and moscow mules.

Set up cornhole on the lawn for some friendly competition.

ON THE FIRST FLOOR:

Kitchen, Dining & Living Space —
All guests are welcomed with a bottle of our favorite pink bubbles! Stainless steel GE Cafe appliances, marble countertops, and a HUGE fireplace await you in the kitchen. Enjoy coffee and breakfast at the 1920s farm table as the birds chirp and morning sunlight begins to peek through the family room windows.

The kitchen is fully stocked! We provide oils, vinegars, spices, baking needs, paper products, trash bags, and basic cleaning supplies. Sharp Victorinox knives, Calphalon cookware. Keurig, K-Cups, a bullet blender, toaster, plenty of serveware. You just bring your groceries!

Our family room is perfect for congregating no matter the activity due to the flexible open floor plan. If you're feeling lazy, fall asleep on the oversized suede sofa watching a late-night movie or Sunday football on the 65" TV.

Formal Dining Room —
Step back in time for a formal meal in our upscale dining room with a vintage Jacobean table and crystal chandelier. Light the candles and linger over a bottle or two of wine... plush, upholstered chairs ensure the old-world vibe doesn't come at the expense of comfort!

Library —
Curl up on the comfy sofa for some quiet time... we've got a solid collection of books and a gas fireplace to set the mood for a moment of solitude. In the evening, the full-sized pullout couch converts this room into private sleeping quarters.

Bridal Suite —
We converted the front parlor into a beautiful king-sized bedroom with an antique floral down-filled seating area and full-length mirror... a perfect place for the bride and bridesmaids to kick off the big day!

UPSTAIRS:
The second floor is divided into two wings. In each, private rooms separated by locking doors share bathrooms.

Master Bedroom —
Generously-sized master suite with a new Tempur-Pedic king bed. Walk through the adjacent hallway to access a private balcony overlooking the brick terrace. Also down the hall, find the Master Bath.

Twin Bedroom — Two twin XL beds with hybrid mattresses and memory foam toppers are perfect for the kiddos or single friends in your crew. Shared access to master bath via hallway from Master Bedroom. If you dare, try out the tiny servant steps for access to the kitchen!

Master Bath —
Enjoy the luxurious soaker tub or the standing shower.

Office/Laundry —
Accessed via the Twin Bedroom, find a private workspace and additional laundry facilities on the second floor.

----------

The "Dog Room" — New, queen-size Nectar mattress. The antique secretary provides an optional convertible workspace.

French Country Room — Another bedroom with servant steps... these lead to the Library! Get comfy in this french-country inspired room which is sun-kissed each morning.

Jack n' Jill Bath — This shared full bath is accessed from the Yellow Room or the Dog Room, which are separated by locking doors.

PRIVATE POOLHOUSE STUDIO:

This unique feature of our property allows the perfect set up for those who prefer more privacy. Featuring a full kitchen (with a spare full size fridge), powder room and outdoor shower... it is a few steps away from the full size bath just inside the side door to the house. A brand new 4" foam mattress awaits you on the queen sleeper sofa.

______

Cellular, Wifi & TV —
We hope our guests will enjoy an "off-grid" experience at Long Sought Farm. When you need it, high-speed wireless internet is available and a Nest wi-fi mesh has been installed. We offer satellite television in the Family Room. A cellular network extender boosts Verizon coverage in the upstairs office. Generally, wi-fi calling is available inside the house, and two bars of cellular are available outdoors. There is NO landline.

Liability Release —
A signed release is required by each guest on your reservation and any others stepping foot on the property throughout your stay. This is sent to each person via email (and signed electronically) after a booking request is made.

**NOTE: If you’re looking for a comfortable stylish home with tons of outdoor space for relaxing and hanging out, comfortable beds, thoughtful amenities, an amazing pool and patio... or a launch pad for exploring the richness of nearby attractions — this is for you! Long Sought Farm won’t be the right fit for you if you’re looking to have an all day and night drinking fest (or if you aren’t sure everyone in your group can behave)!

Wildlife —
Long Sought Farm is situated on 23 private acres bordered by land in preservation. Our housekeepers, pest control and groundskeeping service work hard to maintain the property, but the building is a very old farmhouse in the country — so you may encounter some wildlife in addition to the horses in the pasture! Please be advised that ladybugs, lightning bugs, crickets, stink bugs, deer, turkeys, feral cats, bees, frogs, moths, ticks, spiders, bats, snakes, and more may be encountered during your visit.

Farm Operation —
Our barn and pasture is leased and maintained exclusively by a private equine business. We encourage you to admire the horses from a distance, without entering the fields or interfering with activities or visitors to the barn, who follow respectful noise protocol and reasonable hours of operation so as not to disturb guests at the farmhouse.
