About this property

Lovely oceanfront cottage with deck, grill, & panoramic views

Summary:

Retreat Cottage

The Space:

You'll love this quiet, charming, oceanfront, restored 1920s cottage with updates on a private dirt road. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea. You'll wake up each morning greeted by exceptional views of Cape Cod Bay, and possibly seals sunbathing on the nearby rocks. The private beach is accessible via stone steps next door, and a short walk on a country road brings you to two conservation beaches for walking and swimming. You may also escape to Cape Cod (the bridge is five miles down the road) or head up to historic Plymouth for the day. If you're a fan of early American history, Plymouth is the perfect getaway! Visit Plimoth Plantation, a replica of the original village first settled in 1620. Don’t forget Plymouth Rock and the replica of the Mayflower soon to be returning. Situated in Pilgrim Memorial State Park, the rock is believed to be the spot where the Pilgrims first stepped foot on American soil. A ship- and rope-building mecca in the 19th century, Plymouth today boasts myriad historical sites, colonial architecture, shopping venues, and over 400 restaurants. The cottage is also five miles from the Sagamore Bridge, so you can also enjoy Cape Cod's beaches, quaint seaside villages, and wonderful seaside restaurants. THINGS TO KNOW New for 2024: new mattress on the queen bed! The fireplace is purely decorative. No parties or events. This vacation rental is not equipped with air-conditioning.

This is our 2nd time at this property but under a different listing, so the fact that we are repeat renters I think is a pretty good review in itself. The only thing I would call out to those looking is that your experience will be directly influenced by how much "what you are getting" aligns with "what you want".It is an older (but clean and cared for) beach cottage down a single lane unpaved road that is not within eyesight/walking distance of any attractions or busyness and right against the ocean. There is no AC, but many fans and the ocean breeze. The private beach IS accessible but the stones (riprap?) separate you from the sand off the porch. It's quiet (except for seals) and feels.. rural/isolated?For my wife and I escaping the grind, the noise, the kids (lol), this is perfect. We wake up to the waves and the seals. We sit on the deck and just relax. We walk the nearby nature trails. We drive into town if we need/want more than that. Is that the vibe you're going for? If not, this property may not be for you but I wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review, and for coming back to us a second time. You've captured this cottage exactly as it is, an older but well cared for beach escape down that quiet unpaved lane, no AC but plenty of fans and that steady ocean breeze, private beach access with the riprap between the porch and the sand. It's a wonderful thing to read that waking up to the waves and the seals, relaxing on the deck, and the nearby nature trails are just the kind of quiet escape you and your wife were after. Your honest framing will help future guests know whether this rural, unhurried setting is the vibe they're looking for, and we appreciate you sharing it. We'd love to welcome you both back whenever you need to get away from the grind again. The VueStay Team

Honestly, I have gone back and forth about leaving a review of this location, as I don't usually leave reviews.1) You are only allowed to park 2 cars on the proptery. It appeared to us that more than 2 cars could fit here. It was very inconvenient for our group to find a park and ride to leave vehicles during our stay.2) There is no grill as advertised.3) There is black mold in the ceiling of the kitchen cupboards.4) Renter beware: the road is not marked well- very confusing to get here, even with Maps. At the driveway entrance, only a sign for 41 is there. There is no marking for house 39 until you drive a ways down the driveway and see it on the house. 5) Very confusing directions to find stairs to ocean- it is stated NOT to walk on neighbor's lawn, yet it states you HAVE to walk on the lawn to find the stairs. There needs to be some marking. Very confusing.6) Poor communication- if you communicate via VRBO, it appears you are communicating with a host company, and not the actual owners of the home.7) I also find the 4pm check-in time and 10am check-out time to be very inconsiderate to the guests.Overall, I am very disappointed in the experience with the price I paid!
