Mark & Rachel, your hosts, CT natives, became friends at 14, got together at 17, moved to Wake Forest, NC after getting married, and have 3 boys. They've been through war, a heart attack, chronic illness, the loss of their youngest to cancer, but have remained strong through faith, the love they have for their kids and each other. Their oldest will become a WCU catamount in the fall, so they embarked on this adventure of doing what they love, hosting and making people feel at home through their Stone Fly Getaway. They hope this home offers a retreat and reset that will bring couples and families closer together and be the place where many beautiful memories are made!

Why they chose this property

We love being able to walk to the end of our private driveway and be at the river as soon as we cross the street. Having a son at WCU also makes our location perfect since it's 2min. from campus. We love to enjoy the local restaurants, shops, and breweries in downtown Sylva and it only takes about 15 min. to get there. The same goes for downtown Dillsboro. Bryson City is also a great place to explore and in the winter catch the Polar Express train with the kids. That's only a 30 min drive. Stone Fly Retreat offers both a peaceful, mountain getaway and is minutes from two sought after downtowns and countless outdoor attractions like the Jackson County Greenway, fishing, swimming, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and picnic areas.

What makes this property unique

Our property is unique because we've brought a little of our family to the mountains! We love games, entertaining, and fun, so at Stone Fly Retreat, we've created a game room with 3 full-sized arcade games, full-sized WCU Cornhole boards, a mini-bar off of the living room, board games, a firepit, grill, and converted our carport to a covered outdoor dining and entertainment area with a hand-crafted table that seats 6 and a picnic table. It also has solar lights so guests can dine during the day or evening.
