Meet Your Stewards: Jeff & Keri Askew

“We are dedicated to honoring the history of Camp Layman while passing on the joy of the outdoors to every generation.”

Hello! We are Jeff and Keri Askew, and we are honored to lead Historic Camp Layman into its next century. For over 20 years, outdoor recreation hasn’t just been our hobby—it’s our way of life. After wrapping up long corporate careers—Jeff in high-tech marketing and Keri as an executive—we knew exactly where to focus our passion: preserving this historic haven and helping guests connect with nature.

A Century of Living History
When Frank Layman established this camp in 1912, the Western Pacific Railway had just opened the Feather River Canyon to vacationers seeking a respite from the city. Today, we take our role as caretakers of this legacy seriously. Nestled between the historic Twenty Mile House and Graeagle, our original, rustic cabins stand as a tribute to simple living, honest recreation, and the steady murmur of the Middle Fork of the Feather River.

Why Families Keep Coming Back
As parents and grandparents, we know how rare true quality time is. Camp Layman is a place to slow down. Guests enjoy the same timeless activities that have defined vacations here for over a hundred years. Step out your door to fish for trout, swim in the river, or watch the kids head for the playground. Whether you're playing shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping-pong, or volleyball, or driving minutes away to hike the spectacular Lakes Basin Recreation Area, there is a healing rhythm here.

We are focused on bringing the passion and hospitality we feel for the outdoors to every single guest. Come kick off your boots, step back into a simpler era, and become part of the Camp Layman story.

We can’t wait to welcome your family to the canyon!

– Jeff & Keri Askew

Why they chose this property

For over 20 years, the mountains have been our sanctuary. After decades in the fast-paced corporate world, we wanted to dedicate the next chapter of our lives to something truly timeless. The moment we stepped onto Camp Layman, we fell in love with its deep history, the whisper of the pines, and the rushing waters of the Feather River. We didn't just see a resort; we saw a living piece of California history that has brought joy to families for generations. As parents and grandparents ourselves, we know how rare true quality time is today. We purchased Camp Layman to protect this historic haven, to act as its proud stewards, and to ensure that families, wedding parties, and large groups always have a place to slow down, unplug, and connect with nature and each other.
