The house consists of a single high, large room. In the entrance area there is a small, charmingly furnished kitchen, equipped with a refrigerator and washing machine. Opposite there is a small bathroom with shower. One step down you enter a living room with an art deco table. A staircase takes you to the sleeping gallery, from which you can overlook the downstairs room and see the sea from your bed. You can enjoy your breakfast on a large balcony with a fantastic sea view. A fan provides cooling in summer. The house is located in a part of the Chora spared from bars. It is midway between the square where life in Astypalea takes place with restaurants, bars and meeting places and the picturesque towering Venetian Kastro which dominates the site.

A place for relax and enjoy the Spectacular panorama
I stay for 7 days, enjoying the Spectacular Views from the balcón, a tradicional house from the greek islands at the top of Xora the main Town of the Island, clóset yo the castle, but a 5 minutes walking to the windmills which is the last place for cars to arrive, because at the old Town just by walking, so you need some good health condition. But It Is an amazing experience!
We had a lovely 2.5 week stay in this very homely little house which has been beautifully restored. We particularly enjoyed eating breakfast and dinner on the balcony which has stunning views of the bay.
We found the house well equipped, with a good range of kitchen utensils (including a garlic crusher!), many condiments and herbs provided, and even a washing machine. Although there was no air conditioning, we just opened all the windows and had plenty of ventilation. There is no wifi at this property and you need to be aware that no cars can get up the road so you need to carry water, shopping, luggage etc 5 mins uphill. You could get a motorbike if this was a problem. You do need to be aware that even if you are 5ft 4 you cannot stand up in the bedrrom area. We got used to this and it wouldn't put us off staying here again.
We used the very efficient Astybus for one week and hired a jeep for the other week to enable us to explore the more remote parts of the island where the dirt roads are challenging! Astypalea is a stunning island with lots of different beaches and is not too touristy.
Maria, the property manager was very friendly and helpful, as was Laura when we unexpectedly had to change the dates of our booking.
Overall we had a wobderful time and would recommend this property.

Distinctive and unforgettable
It was our first trip to Astypalea, an island we'd been looking forward to visit one day for years! We loved it, and our choice to stay in this house in the chora made it perfect. It is in a quiet location, on a main path to the church and the Kastro, but even in August not too many tourists went by. (We felt especially privileged to be staying here while they probably were staying at some hotel without personality, but closer to the beaches).
A few bars and restaurants are close by anyway, a 5 min. walk or so. Most of the Chora tavernas are good, I wouldn't really recommend one over the other, trust your own guidebooks. As for bars, there are two nice ones in the upper part of the chora, but I especially liked the kafeneio Karai, where we were also lucky to be able to watch a trio playing an excellent set one night (keep your eyes open for flyers and mini posters around the chora if you want to find good music).
The house is cozy: not huge but comfortable, beautifully appointed, clean, all we needed was there. It is ideal for 2 people, but it suited us perfectly with 2 young kids too. The view is right on to the sea and it's unforgettable: the balcony overlooks a long bay so you have the stretch of water in front of you, and the land beyond it.
The owner was not in Astypalea when we visited, but for keys etc. we met a friend of hers who was extremely friendly and helpful (she has a shop in the chora - don't miss it if you like quality souvenirs rather than the usual touristy stuff).
We have stayed in dozens of places in many trips to the Cyclades and the Dodecanese and we have no doubt this place is among our 2 or 3 favourites. We would definitely like to stay here again and would not hesitate in recommending it to friends. Avoid it only if you tend to like hotels more than private homes!
More island tips: 1) Maltezana has nice spots for bathing, and they are not too crowded; we liked Astakoukos and Almyra for food there. 2) If you tour the island by bus, like we did, you will probably find there are 2 buses taking turns on the same lines; the experience is definitely different on the 2 buses, try all you can to take at least one trip on Panagiotis' white bus, with 60s music and a huge pot of basil dangling from the rearview mirror as an air freshener.

Thank you very much for the nice commentary. It seems that you really discovered the island. The next time you go there you have to try in Maltezana the cafenion Maltesos, which is a good place to meet the locals. On place in Astypalea to swim is the beach of Magazi, which is just 5 minutes walk from the house, straight down. You can see it from the balcony, but it is a little bit difficult to go down with children.
A nice place to eat is Elias restaurant in the middle of the platia.
So till next time ...
Appartement très bien situé et au calme avec une plage de rêve sans beaucoup de monde juste en dessous. On espère revenir.

We had a wonderful time in this wonderful house. It was very easy getting in contact with the host at any point, and she was always sweet and helpful. The house was perfect for two, it had everything you needed and the view was amazing. We are definitely coming back next year.
The apartment is gorgeous with an incredible view and perfect location within the town. Quiet but near everything you might need. The island is beautiful with amazing beaches. Maria who assisted us is super helpful and so lovely - gave us lots of invaluable tips. We can’t wait to come back to stay again! ❤️ Mouki and Soraya

Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt. Die Ausstattung des Hauses ist schlicht und einfach und gerade deshalb als Kontrast
werden Griechenlandgefühle wach, die an frühere Zeiten erinnern. Gut gemacht!
Irinas house is a very nice one near Portaitissa church the famous of the island
It has killing views to the island and Aegean sea You will never forget the meal at this veranda
The bed is comfortable even though its upstairs and you cannot walk standing as in all houses on the island
Big sitting area with a round table exactly as it pictured
Thank you Irina and hostess Maria of tha Alas shop
See you next year

Fully equipped, amazing view
The house is even better than the pictures show.
Just steps away from ancient kastro and incredible sea view from balcony and windows. It was fantastic to wake up in the morning and see the blue directly from the bed.
The property is quite uphill in the heart of old town (sooo nice) but no stairs are required, so the access is easy, despite being right in the heart of kastro, this is a real plus.
Just be aware that you need to climb an internal ladder in order to reach the bedroom and the ceiling there is quite low, so be prepared. It is a traditional island bedroom.
We contacted both Irina and Maria, who locally cares about the house, and both were very nice and helpful.
We had a perfect stay and I would definitely recommend this house.

A romantic little house with sea view
It’s a lovely house with a mesmerizing view. Everything was clean and tidy. Very near to the castle and the cathedral, the house is located not far from the restaurants and the night life in Chora but without all the noise. We had a wonderful time. The person who welcomed us, Maria, was also very helpful and accommodating.

Wonderful location
We have spent very nice holidays in Irina's house. We took our breakfast on the balcony - this is how a day should start. The house is tastefully furnishid with modern and antique objects and painted in light blue, greige and mauve colours. It has been newly renovated and is in a very good standard. From your bed you have a view to the sea.
Situated near the center (Platia, 5 minutes walk) the house is located in a very quiet area with no bars and coffee-shops. To the nearest beach it is 5 minute walk. We would recomand the house very much - it is a marvellous place to spent your holidays.

A beautiful house
A beautiful house in a beautiful location and with a great view. Astypalea is an interesting island to explore.
The sleeping area has steep stairs and a low ceiling.
