About the host
Hosted by Rita Aulbach-Emira
My family and I are passionate about preserving this home and sharing a small piece of German family history with visitors from around the world. The house was built in the 1950s by my grandfather for my grandmother when they were newly married, and it has remained in our family ever since.
Today, we live abroad but continue to care for the property and the memories it holds. We love helping guests discover the beauty of the Spessart region, whether they’re visiting family, exploring Germany’s countryside, hiking the forests, or simply looking for a peaceful place to relax.
Our goal is to offer more than just a place to stay—we hope guests experience the warmth, history, and character of a true family home.
Why they chose this property
Altenbuch is one of those special places that feels untouched by time. Nestled between the forests of the Spessart and the Main River valley, it offers a peaceful escape from busy cities while still being within easy reach of many of Bavaria’s most beautiful destinations.
What we love most is the quiet. You can wake up to birdsong, walk through the village, hike directly into the surrounding forests, and enjoy spectacular scenery in every season. The area is perfect for hiking, cycling, photography, day trips to historic towns and castles, and experiencing authentic small-town German life.
Many guests are surprised by how much there is to see nearby while still enjoying the tranquility of a rural village.
What makes this property unique
Unlike many vacation rentals, this is not an investment property or a purpose-built tourist accommodation. It is a genuine family home that has been loved and lived in for generations.
Built in the 1950s by the home’s original owner for his new wife, the house retains many of its original features, including beautiful hardwood floors, vintage furnishings, family photographs, and details that reflect its history. Throughout the home, guests will find reminders of the people who built it and the generations who gathered here.
The spacious layout comfortably accommodates up to nine guests, making it ideal for families and groups. The flexible sleeping arrangements, large rooms, full kitchen, and traditional German character offer an experience that is increasingly rare to find.
Staying here is an opportunity to experience an authentic family home in the heart of the Spessart rather than a generic vacation rental. Many guests tell us that the sense of history, comfort, and connection is what makes their stay memorable.
