The current distance to the North Sea coast to the north is about three kilometres. Dornum, the municipality’s main town, is also located about three kilometres away to the east. Six kilometres west of Nesse lies the neighbouring village of Hagermarsch.
The village centre is situated on a mound 5.76 metres above sea level. During an excavation in 1958, the Lower Saxony Mound Research Institute determined that the mound was systematically constructed by human hands to the specified height. Unlike typical farm mounds, the Nessmer mound is relatively elongated and comparable to a somewhat oversized dike. The Nesse settlement mound is surrounded by a limestone marsh, known as the Nessmer Marsh.
Nesse is crossed by County Road 210, which connects the village of Hage with Dornum. The nearest train stations are in Esens and Norden. From the port of Neßmersiel, there is a tide-dependent boat service to the island of Baltrum. The region is perfect for biking or hiking along the North Sea. The North Sea is within walking distance. The nearest major town is Norden/Norddeich.
