Isolated lakeside house, view of glaciers & volcanoes, good for day trips - new!
Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. We're happy to help if you have any questions about your vacation. We have plenty vacation planning tips! We put a major focus on ensuring that your individual wishes are fulfilled, and are happy to help plan your excursions!

The house was exactly as advertised! So cozy with amazing views. Perfectly located for everything we wanted to do and a great, quiet place to come back to after exciting days of sightseeing! I'd highly recommend and would consider staying again if my travels bring me back this way. Renate was fabulous and the horses were lovely. Thank you for staying our trip out on such a wonderful note
Our stay at this cabin was absolutely incredible — it was everything we wanted and more! From the moment we arrived, it felt cozy, peaceful, and perfectly secluded. The cabin was spotless and extremely well cared for, which made it even more comfortable. We stayed during a winter storm, and the temperature inside remained warm and cozy the entire time — it was the perfect retreat from the cold. The owners’ farm is only about 400 meters away, so help was nearby if needed, but the cabin still felt wonderfully private.Their communication was top-notch — always friendly, responsive, and helpful. One of our favorite features was the hot tub, fed and heated by natural water. It felt absolutely amazing, especially in the winter weather! And we can’t forget the horses — they were beautiful and so friendly. It was such a special touch being able to see and pet them during our stay.If we could give unlimited stars, we would! Highly, highly recommended. Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality! The Youngs (Atlanta, Georgia)

Thank you so much - and for the very clean house! Best wishes for you and your family, Renate
We had a wonderful stay at the lakehouse. It is pretty isolated, but the farm is close enough if you need anything. We loved being able to relax and the peace and calm of the location. The hot tub was wonderful and clean; we used it every morning and every night. The beds were also very comfortable. My husband fell in love with the heated floors, pretty sure he wanted to sleep on them instead of the bed. You will need to rent a car to stay here, but it's in a great location to take day trips to waterfalls, volcanoes, and Reykjavík.
This house was perfect for our needs during our stay. The house was clean and well cared for. Even though it was October, we loved the deck to be able to view the Northern Lights or sit in the hot tub. The collection of windows in the living room area offers a great view of lake and lots of natural light. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. Everything was easy to use in the house and the directions left by the host helped with any technical things. The host was also kind to let us see some of their horses before we left. We would absolutely stay here again.
We had a great stay here! The owner made everything super easy and self-explanatory. We found it to be exactly what we were hoping it would be - easy, comfortable, and perfect for day trips. We also enjoyed the hot tub on the deck and seeing the horses as we drove by each day.
Quiet, centrally located cabin. Perfect for day trips to south Iceland, including Golden Circle. Cabin was very neat, ckean, tidy. Hostess (plus dogs & horses) is very friendlyand would stay again in a heartbeat! Takk fyrir.
House was very clean and had everything we could ask for. Location was remote but gorgeous. We had amazing views of th northern lights 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. Was a good midway point for all of the things we wanted to see. Would love to stay again.
This was our third time visiting the island and we could not have had a better stay. The house was exactly what we were looking for, and the hosts were fantastic. The communication was excellent and they were kind enough to message us on an amazing display of the northern lights to make sure we didn’t miss it. I cannot wait to make sure my friends book this location on their trips and we will definitely be back!
Great Location - super relaxing - everything you need
Stayed here with two kids and two adults - fantastic location, very peaceful and quiet. Located about 5 km off of the main highway 1, it was a great central place to take in some of the Golden Circle sights and also going down to Vik and the Black Sand Beach. Rejkavik was also within reach if we desired, but we had a separate stay in Rejkavik. Would definitely stay here again.
The property was very clean and just like the photos showed. The location is remote but that was what we were looking for. Renate responded quickly to all of our questions. We loved the hot tub!
Had a wonderful stay. Best thing was the hot spring tub on the deck. Saw the Northern lights nearly every night. Hosts were very friendly. Good location for touring sth part of island.

About the host
Hosted by Renate Hannemann
Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.
Why they chose this property
Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.
What makes this property unique
The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!
