DESCRIPTION OF THE TOWN AND SURROUNDINGS:
The holiday home is located in the tranquil village of Oberndorf, within an established residential area along the road leading into town. In town: a restaurant and the restaurant ship “Mocambo,” a well-stocked corner store for daily needs, and walks along the Oste River dike (Caution: Swimming in the Oste River is only for experienced swimmers due to strong currents). The nearest shops and supermarket are in Cadenberge (7 km). North Sea beach in Cuxhaven (40 km), Elbe beaches in Otterndorf (22 km) and Krautsand Island (18 km). Sports and recreational facilities at Wingst (4.5 km), indoor swimming pool, and Kreidesee in Hemmoor (7.4 km).
WINGST NATURE PARK AREA
The Wingst Nature Park, a forested geest ridge, covers an area of about 30 km² approximately 30 km southeast of Cuxhaven on the North Sea. In addition to the unspoiled natural landscape (the sprawling Wingst Forest and the flat marshlands stretching towards the Elbe), the small communities in the immediate vicinity—with their typical Lower Saxon half-timbered buildings and thatched-roof farmhouses (farm stores and cafés) shape the character of the area. Supermarkets, restaurants, ice cream parlours, and shops for daily necessities are available in Cadenberge (6 km). The surrounding area offers a variety of sports and recreational activities, including a zoo with wolf and bear enclosures, a heated indoor and outdoor pool with a 100-meter-long water slide, an Icelandic horse stud farm (riding available), and numerous well-marked biking and hiking trails. Good fishing opportunities at Balksee, 2 km away (not a swimming lake). Near Neuhaus (15 km), a water ski facility on Lake Ostesee. The “Natureum” Natural History Museum (changing exhibitions, guided tours, museum café). Hemmoor (14 km) with Lake Kreidesee (60 m deep, excellent diving opportunities, courses offered, equipment rental). Cuxhaven (30 km) with a sandy beach and excellent tourist facilities. Otterndorf, 16 km away, features Grünstrand, a saltwater bath, and an indoor children’s play area. From Duhnen, enjoy mudflat hiking or horse-drawn carriage rides to the island of Neuwerk. Stade (38 km) boasts a charming old town and the “Stadeum” (concerts, theatre). During apple and cherry blossom season, visit the “Alte Land” region and, if desired, travel even further on the “Elbblitz” (catamaran) all the way to the Hanseatic city of Hamburg (90 km).
